life as a prayer

Help us Lord to lead integrated lives.
Remind us daily to live from within.
And help us to discern your presence.

Guide us in each decision and every action.
Let our mistakes cause us to ask for wisdom.
And successes lead us to praise your name.

Teach us to live in spiritual union with you.
Cause us to find new ways to love greatly.
Bless us to be like your Son and our Savior.

Amen

seek and serve

God Almighty,

Bless and send us into this day to seek and serve you.

By Your grace, equip us to witness for truth,
to struggle for justice,
to strive for peace,
to live for love.

God, You declare Your almighty power by showing mercy.

Grant us the fullness of Your grace, that we, running to obtain Your promises, may glory You this new day.

Maybe we seek every opportunity to see You in others and see You in every situation.

Help us know how we can struggle, strive and live for You and for others.

WHEN I SURVEY . . .

This wonderful old hymn is a prayer, my prayer for today, and every day.  Read it at let it move you to pray this every day!

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour comtempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ my God!
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to His blood.

See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down!
Did e're such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown.

Where the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all!
Amen!

God is Good

For the LORD is good. His unfailing love continues forever,
and his faithfulness continues to each generation.  Psalm 100:5 (NLT)

Father I know that every day may not be good but You are good every day. This does not limit Your sovereignty but gives us insight into Your love, providence and purpose for us. Therefore: "....we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28 (NLT)

Thank you Father that we know: "Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, ....." James 1:17-18 (NLT)

So then Father we can give people this glorious invitation: "Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!"  Psalm 34:8 (ESV)

Father there are some days in my experience and perspective that are not good, yet I can say with the Psalmist: "I believe that I will see the goodness of the LORD in this world of the living." "Psalm 27:13 (GW)

And Father I love Habakkuk's prayer in troubled times. "17 Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, 18 yet I will rejoice in the LORD! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! 19 The Sovereign LORD is my strength!"  Habakkuk 3:17-19 (NLT)

Amen!

a prayer for the poor and the neglected

Almighty and most merciful God,

We remember before you all poor and neglected persons whom it would be easy for us to forget: the homeless and the destitute, the old and the sick, and all who have none to care for them.

Help us to heal those who are broken in body or spirit, and to turn their sorrow into joy.

Grant this, Father, for the love of your Son, who for our sake became poor, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

prayer to the good shepherd

Lord of the 23rd Psalm,

I have known death,
and you have refreshed my soul.

I have known fear,
and you have comforted me.

I have known hunger,
and you have set a feast before me.

In the darkest valley
no calamity of humankind or nature has separated us.

Teach me to walk as you walk

Beside those in mourning
so that they will know joy,

Beside those in fear
that they will know comfort,

Beside those in hunger
that they will feast until their cup overflows.

As your goodness and love follow me,

May mine follow my neighbor
That the threat of the worst terrors
May turn to the knowledge of the comforts of
the house of the Lord,
Where you have invited us to dwell forever.

And so let me strive to help build on earth
What you have promised us in heaven.

In the face of all calamity, present and yet to come,
Let me lead my neighbor beside quiet waters,
The quiet waters of the Good Shepherd.

Amen

Prayer for the grieving

Grief is lonely. It is personal. And it is something that can overwhelm you if you aren’t careful.

Lord, I lift up all who are grieving. Bring peace to their hearts as you minister to those deep places of sorrow that can threaten to overcome them.

Bring comfort to their spirits as You bestow sweet grace to all who have loved and lost.

Be near to each heart. Speak mercy to each mind. And bring Your nearness to each spirit.

Amen

teach us

Teach us, dear Lord, to number our days;
that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
Oh, satisfy us early with Thy mercy,
that we may rejoice and be glad all of our days.
And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us;
and establish Thou the work of our hands.
And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us;
and establish Thou the work of our hands, dear Lord.

Stressful Times

Abba Father, the world around us seems as if could fall apart. Stresses over health, jobs, politics, and any number of things have brought many near to the breaking point. Give us strength and grace and help us to show the  reason for our hope to those who are losing hope.

PEACE WITH GOD

Romans 5:1-5  "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.  And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.  Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character, and character, hope.  And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us."

Oh Father, peace with God!  The war is won.  Victory is Yours.  O God, through Jesus Christ, I am the reward of Your victory.  I am the spoil of war!  I am now reconciled to You and holy in Your sight, "without blemish and free from accusation".  What grace is mine in Christ, through His blood and resurrection!  Hallelujah!! How I love You.  Amen

Courage

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might."
Ephesians 6:10 (ESV)

Joshua 1:1& 7 -9  (CSBBible)
1 After the death of Moses the LORD's servant, the LORD spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses's assistant: .....7 Above all, be strong and very courageous to observe carefully the whole instruction my servant Moses commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right or the left, so that you will have success wherever you go.
8 This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth; you are to meditate on it day and night so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in whatever you do.
9 Haven't I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."

Father intimidation is one of the strategies Satan uses against Christians. Fear is a formattable foe and is capable of distracting us from the source and focus of our faith. But there is no reason for fear to master or control us. The Scriptures remind us that: " .....he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4 (ESV)

"What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?"  ....." 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.  Romans 8:31 &37 (ESV)

And so Father I say with the Psalmist: " .....I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? "  Psalm 56:4 (NLT)

Thank you Father for the fortitude to stand for you whatever the circumstances that may  confront us. For your glory and honor we pray. Amen.

help us to hear your voice

Help us Lord to be sensitive to your words.
Lead us as we develop our spiritual ears.

Teach us to pay attention to your voice within.
Let each new day be one of revelation.

Open our ears to the sounds of your Spirit.
Give us grace that we might obey.

For it is in hearing that we learn.
And it is in doing that we understand.

as we wait and are frustrated

I have been recovering from ankle surgery for three months now. Progress is not what I expected. I have had a few painful relapses. I am back in a wheelchair today. It reminds me of how so much of my journey has been about learning to wait on the Lord.

So Lord, I pray that you might help we who hurt, as we wait. Help us to remember that you are not the author of our pain. Nor are you hesitant to help us. Give us eyes to see you in our pain. Help us to see past our frustrations.

We affirm Father, that you are kind and you are loving. You are the answer and not the problem. We testify that we have known your blessing and experienced your compassion. Endow us with divine patience as we wait.

Prayer for the broken

For anyone who is experiencing brokenness in their life, there is good news.

God can take each one of us from that state of being broken to a glorious BREAKTHROUGH.

The process of this restoration will always begin with PRAYER. It is the beginning of all things HOLY and all things good. It is the beginning of all things REDEEMED.

I pray that all who are in this state of bondage right now will begin crying out to the only One who can loose our chains. The only One who can give us strength. The only One who can perfect that work within us.

LORD, give us eyes to see that You are the One who breaks the bonds of brokenness and ushers in a beautiful and glorious breakthrough. Help us to keep our eyes on you. Help us to keep our focus on the eternal. Give us a longing for your Word and for prayer. And perfect within us that work that you began in us on the day of our salvation.

Priceless

I have treasured the words from his mouth more than my daily food.
Job 23:12 (CSB Bible)

Matthew 4:4 (ESV)
“It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Father, help us to understand the vital necessity of the daily reading and meditating on your Word to the sustenance of our spiritual life. Help us to follow the counsel and guidance of the Scriptures given by the Holy Spirit to: "Let Christ's word with all its wisdom and richness live in you....."  Colossians 3:16 (GW)

Indeed Father how: "How sweet your word is to my taste —sweeter than honey in my mouth." Psalm 119:103 (CSB Bible)

Thank you Father for this spiritual daily bread that is sweet to our taste, nourishing to our soul, renewing to our mind and invigorating to our life as we daily partake of it's treasures and truth. As the Scriptures say: "9....The laws of the LORD are true; each one is fair. 10  .....They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. Psalm 19:9-10 (NLT)

And Father may we also say with the Psalmist: "I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you." Psalm 119:11 (CSB Bible)

In the name of the Living Word, Jesus our Lord and Savior. Amen.

a prayer to be sensitive

Dear Lord,

Things are not always as they seem.
Teach us to be understanding towards others.

Help us to return love when we are not loved.
And cause us to bless in hard times.

Give us inner eyes that see as you see.
Let us be people who encourage hurting people.

In all things bless us to be merciful and kind.
Cause love and compassion to flow from us.

when things are against us

I said, “This is my fate - my lot in life.
God has seemed to turn against me.”

But then I recall all you have done, O Lord;
I remember your wonderful deeds in my life.

I meditate on them and find hope in You.
I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works.

Again I commit my ways to you again dear Lord.
I will trust you to work things for my good.

For you love me greatly dear Heavenly Father.
I will praise you even when I do not hear your voice.

You are my God and I will seek you in the darkness.
I will persevere in faith, hope and love.

Something different

So many times we expect something new to take place in our lives. We want a new thing. A new vision. A new revelation.

We want the LORD to do something new and different within us but yet we are still doing the same thing as before. Reading the WORD the same way. Studying the Bible the same way. Praying the same way.

Truth is if we want the LORD to do something different in our spiritual lives, we have to do something different with Him! We have to do something different with the WORD!

Let our prayer be for a new hunger and a new thirst for the WORD to change us and transform us into new creations! Let’s begin reading and studying with expectancy. Let’s begin praying with more fervor. Let’s start asking God to open our ears and hearts to His plan for our lives.

It’s never too late to start desiring a newness in our lives.

a prayer to be held steady

Lord,

In Your power and strength, grace and mercy, we come before You today to remember and celebrate all that You are, all that You have done, and all that You will do.

Steady us, O Lord, in a constantly moving world, in truths that never change: Your faithfulness, You light, Your constant presence, and the gift of the Spirit. Remind us of who we are: chosen, seated, included, renewed, filled. We belong to You, and You have given us gifts to serve others and glorify You. These are truth that are sure, steady, and that cannot be taken from us.

Give us the courage to let go of the things in the world that seem to give more steady truth than Your truth, and the trust in Your sovereign ways that lay out a path before us. Reveal to us all the ways in which You alone are our rock, sure and steady, unmoving and true.

For in the day of trouble
    he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent
and set me high upon a rock. (Psalm 27:5)

COME SOON, LORD JESUS

Mark 13:26,27  "At that time men will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.  And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens."

Oh Father, how I long for the day of Your coming!  As I watch and wait, help me to keep short accounts with You, to be sensitive to my sins and failures, to be immediately in confession and whole hearted repentance.  Let me keep my mind, and heart pure before You.  Let me look forward to Your coming witg a joyful and worshiping heart,  Give me opportunities to share you love and grace to those who don't know You.  Do a mighty work of salavation in hearts so they too can rejoice at Your coming.
Come Soon Lord Jesus.  I love You.  Amen!

"

"..... if it is God's purpose for you to undergo pain,..." 1 Peter 3:17 (BBE)

"Embrace it" is what she said, my dermatologist. I have a rash that is symptomatic to old age. I guess it  comes with the territory.   Some rashes can be medically helped and sometimes with natural medicine. But my diagnosis is "There is no cure at the present time."  I know that pain is a challenge and grace is a gift to enable me to embrace the challenge. What is good enough for the Apostle Paul ought to be good enough for me.

2 Corinthians 12:8-9 (ESV)
8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me.
9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Dear Father, you know I hate pain. It is such a nuisance, distraction and misery. And yet I know that through pain your goodness, will, and glory can be revealed in astonishing ways. And that is what truly matters. "For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,"  2 Corinthians 4:17 (ESV)

So Father, by your grace and strength I will embrace it and rejoice in what you see fit to accomplish through it. But I do pray with the Psalmist:  "Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace." Psalm 86:6 (ESV)

Thank you Father that: "I can do all things through him who strengthens me." Phil. 4:13 (ESV)

In the name of Jesus who suffered so much and willingly for me. Amen!
