Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

SPIRITUAL FREEDOM

Psalm 37:7,28  "Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicket schemes.  For the Lord loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones."

Thank You Lord that You are able to give us spiritual freedom even when the world constructs its "prisons" around us.  When our hands are tied, when we seem to be trapped by life's small frustrations or enormous tragedies.  Your wisdom protects us and infuses us with an inner strength that moves us beyond the confines of our circumstances.  You lead us in the midst of a world that has veered off course.  You empower us to live out Your plan among people who refuse to call You God!  Lord, help us!  I love You.  Amen.

Are We Downhearted?

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NIV)
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Father this passage of Scripture reminds me of the chorus by Robert Harkness:

Are we downhearted? No! No! No!
Are we downhearted? No! No! No!
Troubles may come and troubles may go,
We trust in Jesus, come weal or woe,
Are we downhearted? No! No! No!

Father thank you for giving us an attitude, through the Holy Spirit, that enables us to deal with our present troubles in light of our glorious future. As the Scriptures remind us: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him"-- 10 but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit......"  1 Cor.  2:9-10

In the name of Jesus we pray, our preset help and glorious future. Amen.

GIVE ME A TENDER HEART

"O Thou who Thyself art everlasting Mercy, give me a tender heart today towards all those to whom the morning light brings less joy than it brings to me:
Those in whom the pulse of life grows weak;
Those who must lie abed through the sunny hours:
The blind, who are shut off from the light of day:
The overworked, who have no joy of leisure:
The unemployed, who have no joy of labour:
The bereaved, whose hearts and homes are desolate:
And grant Thy Mercy on them all.

O Light that never fades, as the light of day now streams through these windows and floods this room, so let me open to Thee the windows of my heart, that all my life may be filled by the radiance of Thy presence.  Let no corner of my being  be unillumined by the light of Thy countenance.  Let there be nothing within me to darken the brightness of the day.  Let the Spirit of Him whose life was the light of men rule within my heart till eventide.  Amen."

E Pluribus Unum

America's great need is Unity In Diversity without which she will not survive.

How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!
Psalm 133:1 (NIV)

The United States Motto  "E Pluribus Unum is Latin for "out of many, one"  refers to the fact that the United States was formed as a cohesive single nation as the result of the thirteen smaller colonies joining together.

The Church (Body of Christ) an Example. "18 But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. 19 How strange a body would be if it had only one part! 20 Yes, there are many parts, but only one body..... 25 This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other." 1 Corinthians 12:18-20 &25 (NLT)

The warning of Jesus the consequences. "Knowing their thoughts, He told them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is headed for destruction,...."" Matthew 12:25 (HCSB)

The Challenge for all of America the response. " Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind."  1 Peter 3:8 (ESV)

Heavenly Father you have shown us that the only true answer to division in humanity is unity in Christ: " 26 For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. & 28 There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:26 & 28 (NLT)

Father I pray, as we are so encircled by disease, debt and national dysfunction, that there will be an overwhelming recognition of our desperate need of you. Father, we have no answer but you, no hope but you, no healing but you, and no unity of soul, spirit and mind but you!

Father we implore you, based on your promise, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV),

Father hear our prayer, and glorify yourself in the demonstration of your great compassion and gracious mercy. Through Jesus our Savior we pray. Amen.

inaugural benediction

As a nation and people of faith gathered in this historic moment, let us unite in prayer. God, we gather under the beauty of your holiness and the holiness of your beauty. We seek your faith, your smile, your warm embrace. we petition you once more in the celebration.

We pray for divine favor upon our president, Joseph R. Biden, and our first lady, Dr. Jill Biden and their family. We further ask that you would extend the same favor upon our vice president, Kamala D. Harris, and our second gentleman, Doug Emhoff and their family. More than ever, they and our nation need you.

We need you. For in you we discover our common humanity. In our common humanity we will seek out the wounded and bind their wounds. We will seek healing for those who are sick and diseased. We will mourn our dead. We will befriend the lonely, the least common the left out. We will share our abundance -- the least, and the left out. We will share our abundance. We will give justice to the oppressed. Acknowledge sin, and seek forgiveness, thus grasping reconciliation.

In discovering our humanity, we will seek the good in and for all our neighbors. We will love the unlovable. Remove the stigma of the so-called untouchables. We will care for our most vulnerable, our children, the elderly, the emotionally challenged, and the poor. We will seek rehabilitation beyond correction. we will extend opportunity to those locked out of opportunity. We will make friends of our enemies.
...
Hallelujah. Glory, Hallelujah. In the strong name of our collective faith. Amen.

you encircle me

 Father,

"You encircle me."

As I read this promise from the Psalm today I am struck by the presence of Your protection. Your guiding hand, Your knowledge of all that I do. Comfort me when I am at distressed. Go before me when I am tempted to run ahead, and hold me back when it's too soon to go forward. Protect me when I am in danger. Guide me when I am lost. Give me peace when I am at unrest.  Hold on to me when I want to let go.

May Your omnipresence keep me still this day, Lord.

And may this stillness flow out of me and bless others who are also at unrest. May my presence make others feel at peace. Teach me to be that kind of presence for others.

Amen

Prayer for Peace

Father, our country is divided. So is your church. We pray that you would overshadow us with your Spirit and bring peace. Unite your people and remind us that we serve the Prince of Peace, not the gods of this world that would divide us. Let us be peacemakers and unifiers where we are able. Amen

EVERYTHING WE NEEED

II Peter 1:3,4 "His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him, who called us by his own glory and goonesss,  Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires."

Oh Lord, how wonderful to know that my Father is the God of all creation.  My Father is the provider who feeds and clothes all nature.  My Father rules over an unshakeable kingdom that I am inheriting and the riches of heaven have been set aside for me.  O Abba, my dear Father,  You are my greatest treasure.  You are the endless supply of all I need for life and godliness.  I love You.  Amen.

Is God Sleeping?

"Wake up, O Lord! Why do you sleep? "
Psalm 44:23 (NLT)

Matthew 8:24-27 (NLT) "24 Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re  going to drown!” 26 Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly all was calm.!”

Father like the disciples caught in a sudden fierce storm, we too are prone to be frightened, frantic and of little faith. We may even wonder if you are asleep and unaware of the danger we are in. We know better than that, yet Father in our human frailty we do at times fail to trust you.

Dear Father, Jesus your beloved Son, was subjected to testing as we are, yet he slept in peace knowing he was in your care, protection and will. Help us to be mindful of the fact that we too are in your care, protection and will. And may we never forget what you said in Psalms 121:3-4 (NLT) "the one who watches over you will not slumber. 4 Indeed, he who watches over Israel (you) never slumbers or sleeps."

Father I know that Jesus exercised his power for the benefit of others, which includes us. I ask that our little faith will grow so that we too may sleep in  the storm knowing that we are safe in your hands.

Psalm 4:8 (NLT) In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe.

Amen.

Give me such confidence in the power of your grace,
that even when I am afraid,
I may put my whole trust in you.

a prayer for discernment

Lord,

My heart is torn. My mind is confused. My body is tense. Everything out there and in me seems to send the message, "I. Don't. Know."

And then there are days when I seem to be so sure that I know it all. I am right and others are wrong. And I couldn't not possibly be questioned because I have it all figured out.

I know these are things You do not want for me. Neither one. One leads to inaction. The other to pride. And both lead to chaos.

Lord, give me the humility to understand that I do not know everything. Yet enough confidence to know You will guide me to know what I do need to understand. Help me discern what is not of You and what is of the enemy. Show me what will bring peace, unity, and purity to Your Church and steer me away from all that divides, destroys, and hurts those in it.

To do this, I know I must be connected to You. Abide with me, O Lord. Quiet my heart and spirit. Slow me down so I may hear Your voice. Teach me to test the spirits and trust only in the truth and not in myself. Prune all that is in my that does not bring You glory, and keep me in union with Your Son Jesus.

Amen

HE IS ABLE

Jeremiah 32:17,26 "Ah, Sovereign Lord, You have made the heavens and earth by your great power and outstretched arm.  Nothing is too hard for You."  "I am the Lord, the God of all mankind.  Is anything too hard for me?"

Almighty God, when my world falls apart, when my most precious dreams have died.  When I cannot see beyond the trouble in the world, how beautiful is the sound of the prophet's words: "Nothing is too hard for You,"  You are able to do immeasurably more than I could ask or imagine.  I give You praise, O God, for with You all things are possible.  I love You,  Amen

He is able, more than able
To accomlish what concerns me today
He is able, more than able
To handle anything that comes my way
He is able, more than able
To do much more than I could dream
He is able, more than able
To make me what He wants me to be

God's Redemptive Patience

God’s patience waited in the days of Noah,..."
1 Peter 3:20 (ESV)

Father there are three things that are stunning about the days of Noah and the days in which we live: the world's wickedness, Noah's faith and Your patience.

The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.   Genesis 6:5 (ESV)
The world wickedness. God said to Noah, “,,,,,,the earth is filled with violence through them."       Genesis 6:13 (ESV)

Noah, built the ark
Noah faith. Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. 9 ....Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God. Genesis 6:8-9 (ESV)

"Noah.....did all that God commanded him. Genesis 6:22 (ESV)

"By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith." Hebrews 11:7 (NIV)

"Noah warned the world of God’s righteous judgment..." Peter 2:5 (NLT)

God's patience. "....God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared......"     1 Peter 3:20 (ESV)

Self-centeredness, from which all sin comes leads to disobedience, rebellion, wickedness and violence. Such ungodliness summed up the days of Noah and the days in which we now live. "When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah’s day." Luke 17:26 (NLT)

Father what is amazing to me about the days of Noah and ours is Your patience in giving time and opportunity for people to believe in You. and repent.

2 Peter 3:9 (ESV)
The Lord is.....patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

Father, in this wicked world, help us to be like faithful Noah, to walk with You and give Your message of patience, grace. forgiveness and warning of coming judgement. And we pray that many will repent and put their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Father, help us also to remember the redemptive purpose of Your patience: ".the Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved...." 2 Peter 3:15 (NLT)

"Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?"      Romans 2:4 (ESV)

Father, may we as Noah faithfully walk with You, boldly speak the truth of coming judgement and humbly share the message of Your redemptive patience and forgiveness.

In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Stay in your lane

LORD, our prayer today is that we will all find our own spiritual journey. We won’t compare our walk to another’s.  We won’t compare our relationship with You to someone else’s.

Our prayer is that we will each SEEK a new and purposed journey with YOU. We will keep our eyes on Your WORD and be content walking the path that You have set out for us.

Help us to stay in our own lane and run our own race with our eyes on the prize of Eternal Life.

LIVE IN THE MOMENT

Matthew 24:36  "No ones knows about the day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."

Lord, I long for the day of Your return, but much more, I desire to live in constant communion with You even now.  I do not seek to know the day or the hour of Your coming; only let me know the glory and warmth of Your presence in my life today.  I seek only to live in obedience to your Word.  And when you come in triumph, may I then be found in You and You in me.  When I finally look into Your face, then I will know You even as You know me.

We don't know what lies ahead for 2021.  This we do know, until the Lord comes, He has instructed us in His Word, to "occupy" or "keep doing" what you are doing for the Kingdom.  One day at a time, living in anticipation and obedience.  Live in the moment!  Live to serve and obey the Lord!  Let the JOY of the LORD be your STRENGTH.

I Have a Dream

"But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles...."
Isaiah 40:31 (NLT)

The Eagle is not afraid of the storms of life, he simple flies through them and soars above them. Father, how exciting and thrilling it is for us to breath the fresh air of higher altitudes, and to fill our lungs with the stimulating energy of soaring like the Eagle! Such great attainment for us is through our trust in You.

I  may be an old bird, Lord, but I have a dream. "....your old men will dream dreams....." Joel 2:28  Father I  dream of soaring like the Eagle and this can happen because of your promise "He (God) fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!"  Psalm 103:5 (NLT)

Therefore, Father, by faith and hope in Your promise, in 2021:

I will with the grip of the Eagle's tallons hold to the Word of God. " I hold fast to your statutes, O LORD;"  Psalm 119:31 (NIV)

I will with the wings of the Eagle ascend to the heights of fellowship with God. "......our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ." 1 John 1:3 (NIV)

I will with the eyes of the Eagle focus on the promises of God. " For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God. 2 Corinthians 1:20 (NIV)

The Eagle, so glorious in flight, so powerful through the storms and so victorious in overcoming the elements, is the image of triumphant Christian living. Thank you Father for the victorious Christian life made possible as You renew my strength enabling me to soar like the Eagle. And by Your grace and through trust in You I will soar this new year. As the Apostle Paul said: "I can do everything through him who gives me strength." Philippians 4:13 (NIV)

Amen.

give me the courage to begin again

Dear God,

Give me the courage to begin again – to overlook the difficulties, to overcome the obstacles and to stay open to the moment as best I can.

Help me be patient enough to know it takes time to start over, and wise enough to ask for help from friends and family when I need it.

As I look to the future, may I reflect on the past and remember the lessons it’s taught me. And God, may I always look to you for strength and guidance.

Amen.
