Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

a prayer in time of trouble

Lord, in every need let me come to You with humble trust saying, "Jesus, help me."

In all my doubts, perplexities, and temptations,
Jesus, help me.

In hours of loneliness, weariness, and trials,
Jesus, help me.

In the failure of my plans and hopes; in disappointments, troubles, and sorrows, Jesus, help me.

When others fail me and Your grace alone can assist me,
Jesus help me.

When I throw myself on Your tender love as a father and savior,
Jesus, help me.

When my heart is cast down by failure at seeing no good come from my efforts,
Jesus, help me.

When I feel impatient and my cross irritates me,
Jesus, help me.

When I am ill and my head and hands cannot work and I am lonely,
Jesus, help me.

Always, always, in spite of weakness, falls, and shortcomings of every kind,
Jesus, help me and never forsake me.

Amen

Let us run the race

LORD,

Help us to keep our eyes on You as we run this race of the Christian life. When times are hard. When times are scary. When times are unknown and unsure. Help us to maintain our focus on You.. Our Creator. Help us to remember that we are not in competition with each other.. we are running the same race and we are all placing our hope in You. We are all running for the same outcome. Passing that finish line and entering into the GLORY of Eternity with You...

“Let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1)

IN TIMES LIKE THESE

In times like these you need a Savior
In times like these you need an anchor
Be very sure, be very sure
You anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock

The Rock is Jesus, Yes He's the One
The Rock is Jesus, the only One
Be very sure, be very sure
You anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock

In times like these you need the Bible
In times like these, O be not idle
Be very sure, be very sure
You anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock
                                                                      (George Beverly Shea)

Oh Lord, You are our Anchor.  You are the Solid Rock.  The Word of God our guide.  In times like these we plead for your strong arm to hold us.  We are weak and confused with all the mixed messages we hear every day.  YOU are the one constant...You are our Anchor.  You are the Solid Rock.  How we find comfort and joy in that.  Bless Your people all over the world today, and bring healing to both body and soul.  We love You.  Amen

The Promise

Psalm 42:3 (NIV)
   3 My tears have been my food day and night, while men say to me all day long, "Where is your God?"

The answer to the question: “Where is God When I Need Him?” requires two other questions. Where are we? Where is our focus? Whatever our trauma, trial or temptation, God gives us His promise to be with us. Where we are is where God is. That is His promise throughout the Bible.

Joshua 1:9 (NLT)
     9 …. Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

Isaiah 41:10 (NLT)
     10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged….

Matthew 28:20 (NLT)
     20  “…..be sure of this: I am with you always…..”

Lord there are other passages of Scripture that assures us of your presence. Thank you for the peace and hope your presence brings. Thank you Father for the wonderful song that expresses your promise and presence.

In Your Presence
Sandi Patty

In the quiet of this hour
As I kneel before You now
I believe Your promise to be faithful.
I don't always understand
What Your perfect will demands,
But I've learned to trust You more
In Your presence, Lord.

In Your presence there is comfort,
In Your presence there is peace,
When we seek to know Your heart,
We will find such blessed assurance
In Your holy presence, Lord.
 Amen.

prayer of surrender

Father, I abandon myself into your hands;
do with me what you will.

Whatever you may do, I thank you;
I am ready for all, I accept all.

Let only your will be done in me,
and in all Your creatures;
I wish no more than this, O Lord.

Into your hands I commend my soul;
I offer it to you with all the love of my heart.

For I love you Lord, and so need to give myself,
to surrender myself into your hands,
without reserve, and with boundless confidence,

For you are my Father.

the grail prayer

Lord Jesus,
I give you my hands to do your work

I give you my feet to go your way

I give you my eyes to see as you do

I give you my tongue to speak your words

I give you my mind that you may think in me

I give you my spirit that you may pray in me
Above all,
I give you my heart that you may love in me your Father and all mankind

I give you my whole self that you may grow in me

So that it is you Lord Jesus who live and work and pray in me

I received Mercy

(1 Timothy 1:13)

Today, let’s be so thankful for His Mercy.

I pray that everyone who reads this has received this beautiful gift from God. I pray that all who see this have experienced His goodness and have encountered Jesus Christ in true relationship. I pray that we never take this mercy lightly. That we never forget the price He paid so we could receive it. I pray that we are more aware of Him in these perilous times than ever before.

I was a sinner. Lost. Wandering. Destined for hell. Bound up in chains. Seeking truth.  Needing a Savior.

I deserved death and hell.

But...

I received Mercy...

trust in God

Lord, I have heard of your fame;
    I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord.
Repeat them in our day,
    in our time make them known;
    in wrath remember mercy.

Were you angry with the rivers, Lord?
    Was your wrath against the streams?
Did you rage against the sea
    when you rode your horses
    and your chariots to victory?
You uncovered your bow,
    you called for many arrows.
You split the earth with rivers;
10     the mountains saw you and writhed.
Torrents of water swept by;
    the deep roared
    and lifted its waves on high.

I heard and my heart pounded,
   my lips quivered at the sound;
decay crept into my bones
   and my legs trembled.
Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity
     to come on the nation invading us.

Though the fig tree does not bud
    and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
    and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
   and no cattle in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
 I will be joyful in God my Savior.

The Sovereign Lord is my strength.

What We Have Missed

Father, there is so much that has been missed in the past month. Our hearts go out to students who have lost graduation and all that goes with it, to athletes who never got to play their last game, and for those who missed celebrating anniversaries. We especially grieve for those who were denied the the chance to say goodbye to loved ones. Lift them up and hold them close. Comfort them as only you can. Amen

A PRAYER FROM PSALM 46

"God is our refuge and strength.  A very present help in trouble.  Therefore, we will not fear.  Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea.  Though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with swelling. . . . . . . God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved.  God shall help her, just at the breaking of dawn."  Psalm 46

Dear Lord, it feels like our world has been in the midst of a storm, troubled waters, and mountains shaking with the invisible enemy called the "Corona Virus" changing how we live and act, but YOU are the same Yesterday, Today, and Forever.  You do not change.  You are in control and many hearts are being turned back to faith and You.  How comforting to read your Words, and see that you are in the middle of our storms and You are our refuge and strength.  Help us to trust You alone. Thank You for being our rock in the times of trouble.  I love You.  Amen

Does God Love Me?

1 John 3:1 (GW)

    1 Consider this: The Father has given us his love. He loves us so much that we are actually called God's dear children. And that's what we are…..

1 John 4:9-10 (NIV)
     9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

When I consider God’s love for us I am humbled beyond words of expression and moved to overwhelming gratitude. The following song captures the essence of how I feel.

“How deep the Father's love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory
Behold the man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished
I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom”
Songwriters: Stuart Townend

Thank you Father for the blessed assurance and absolute confident we have in your faithful love for us that has no measure or end.

Romans 8:38-39 (NLT)
     38 And I am (We are) convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

for frontline health care workers

For frontline health care workers, we thank you for their vocational call to serve us.

We also pray:

God, keep them safe and healthy. Keep their families safe and healthy.

God, help them to be knowledgeable about the diagnosis and treatment of this disease, as well as the changing protocols.

God, help them to stay clear-minded in the midst of the surrounding panic.

God, deliver them from anxiety for their own loved ones (aging parents, children, spouses, roommates).

God, give them compassion for every patient in their care.

God, provide for them financially, especially if they fall ill and are unable to work.

God, help Christians in health care to exhibit extraordinary peace, so that many would ask about the reason for their hope. Give them opportunities to proclaim the gospel.

God, we trust that you are good and do good. Teach us to be your faithful people in this time of global crisis.

Help us to follow in the footsteps of our faithful shepherd, Jesus, who laid down his life for the sake of love. Glorify his name as you equip us with everything needed for doing your will. Amen.

mentioning prayers

I love how simply the Apostle Paul speaks about prayer at times in his letters.

Consider these passages:
For God, whom I serve with my spirit by preaching the gospel about his Son, is my witness how constantly I mention you in my prayers at all times, -Romans 1:9-10

We always thank God for all of you when we mention you in our prayers. -1 Thessalonians 1:2

I never stop giving thanks for you as I mention you in my prayers. -Ephesians 1:16

I always thank my God when I mention you in my prayers. -Philemon 1:4
In a refreshing style he simply says that he mentions them in his prayers and often simply gives thanks for them. I think that it is good advice to pray simply and not get caught up in long and elaborate religious prayers that seem to instruct God about what He should be doing.

Some mornings when I pray I simply remember, before God, the folks on my heart and their needs - and express my thanks for them. I always seem to go away from those times refreshed knowing that my Heavenly Father has heard my prayers and sifted them in His loving hands.

I suggest that you take a moment. Close your eyes. Lay your hands, palms up, on your lap. And simply remember those who need your prayers. Give thanks for them. And make mention of them to the Lord like a child talking to their Dad.

Prayer can be so simple. I think that it is meant to be.

confident in the Lord

Father,

You are the light and salvation—whom shall we fear?
      You are our stronghold —of whom shall we be afraid?
When the wicked advance against us to destroy and devour
      please protect and cause them stumble and fall.

Though an army besiege me, our hearts will not fear;
      though war break out against us, even then

we will be confident.

 One thing we ask from the Lord, this only do we seek:
    that we may dwell in Your house, Father, all the days of my life.

For in the day of trouble, we are sure You will keep us safe in Your dwelling;
    You will hide us in the shelter of his sacred tent and set us high upon a rock.

Then we will be exalted above the enemies who surround;
    at Your sacred tent we will sacrifice with shouts of joy;

We will sing and make music to the Lord.

 Hear our voices when we call, Lord;
    be merciful to us and answer us.
 Our hearts say of You, “Seek his face!”

 Your face, Lord, I will seek.

Do not hide your face from us, do not turn Your servants away in anger;
    You have been our helper.

Do not reject me or forsake us, God our Savior.

Though our families forsake us,
    the Lord will receive us.

 Teach us Your way, Lord;
    lead us in a straight path because of our oppressors.

 Do not turn us over to the desire of our foes,
    for false witnesses rise up against us, spouting malicious accusations.

We remain confident of this:

   We will see the goodness of the Lord

 in the land of the living.

 Wait for the Lord;

    be strong and take heart

    and wait for the Lord.

Amen

Easter Monday

Jesus, we praise you for rising from the dead. Because you went into death and came out the other side, we have the hope that we too will be raised. Just as the disciples went from terrified people to bold proclaimers of the gospel of the Kingdom, so let us go in that same resurrection power and boldly proclaim that Jesus is King. Amen

THEN CAME THE MORNING!!

*"Grief is a power emotion we've all experienced, particularly at the death of a loved one or a treasured hope.  Mary Magdalene experienced it.  She had traveled and help support Jesus and His disciples.  But His cruel death on a cross had separated them.  The only thing left for Mary to do for Jesus was to finish anointing His body for burial."

Then came the morning!!

"Mary, there He was.  Alive ~ instantly her grief was turned to joy.  Mary now had joyful news to share: "I've seen the Lord!"

Oh Lord, how we are filled with joy as your resurrection has turned our grief to joy!  Mary didn't know the end of the story, but we do! Thank you for the Word of God that tells us the good news, that because YOU LIFE, we too shall live. Father, I pray that peoples eyes and hearts will be open to see the Living Christ this Easter!  I pray that our nation will never be the same.  That we will come out of this horrible plague and know YOU are God, and You desire a personal relationship with each person alive.  We pray this in the saving name of Jesus~  The name above all names!!  I love YOU.  Amen.

Saturday Silence

Psalm 62:5 (ESV)
      5  For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.

Heavenly Father, as I mediate on the emotional and mental state of the Apostles and disciples, I am inclined to feel their disillusionment, despair and dread. Their King was violently murdered, their hope was brutality crushed, and their fear of immanent death overwhelmed them. John 20:19 (HCSB) “In the evening of that first day of the week, the disciples were gathered together with the doors locked because of their fear of the Jews…..”

Father, I understand and appreciate Saturday’s Silence, as I along with others experience circumstances beyond the expression of words. Thank You that by our trust in You we have a quiet and calming hope that gives us peace in perilous times, such as with this coronavirus, that is affecting so many. We ask for help, healing and hope for the whole world. With the Psalmist I pray: Psalm 103:1-4 (CSBBible)
    1 My soul, bless the LORD, and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
2 My soul, bless the LORD, and do not forget all his benefits. 3 He forgives all your iniquity; he heals all your diseases. 4He redeems your life from the Pit; he crowns you with faithful love and compassion.

In the merciful and compassionate name of Jesus. Amen

Lord, to you we release our:
  • fears because we know that you are able to protect us;
  • inadequacies since we know that in You we are enough;
  • unforgiveness as we embrace your forgiving heart;
  • worries knowing that You hold our future in your hand;
  • condemnation believing that You do not condemn;
  • judgments understanding that we only see in part;
  • cares because you care for us.
We pray believing in the strong name of Jesus Christ.

Monday after Palm Sunday

Jesus, turn over our tables. Drive out those who would sell your truth for profit. Turn over the tables of political power and cultural influence that split your people. Remind us that we are your temple, your dwelling place. May we worship you only as our King. Amen

PALM SUNDAY

 "Jesus at the climax of his ministry was making a statement.  This was an object lesson that proclaimed who he was ~~The Son of David, the King of kings, the one who conquered sin and sickness.  Conquering generals at that time were given a "triumphal entry" upon their return to their home city.  Palm branches were often waved during times of celebration and victory.  The procession caused the city, crowded with people for  Passover, to consider Jesus' claims!!"*

Father God, as we come to Palm Sunday, the world is not the same.  Churches will not be filled with worshipers wanting to celebrate Palm Sunday and there will be no children waving palm branches to King Jesus in the streets.  But YOU are doing a new thing this year, a year like no other ~~ So Father, we pray that there will be a spiritual awaking like we have never seen before, and thousands will come to You for the gift of grace and salvation.  Father we do celebrate You today.  In our hearts we are waving those branches and shouting to the world that you are the Victor.  The King of Kings and the soon coming Lord.  I love You.  Amen!
