to take pleasure in our work

Lord, as we go to our work this day,
help us to take pleasure therein.

Show us clearly what our duty is,
help us to be faithful in doing it.

May all we do be well done, fit for thine eye to see.

Give us enthusiasm to attempt, patience to perform.

When we cannot love our work, may we think of it as thy task, and make what is unlovely beautiful through loving service, for thy name’s sake.

"He must increase, but I must decrease." -John 3:30

A time of rest

LORD, today I lift up all who are weary and burdened. I pray that You will grant them REST. A time where they can pull away from all that is causing them chaos and confusion and they can turn to You for a REFRESHING of their spirit and sweet RENEWAL to their soul.

Relieve them of their burden. Enable them to lay some things down at Your feet. Empower them to turn all that is causing their weariness over to You.

We thank you LORD that you carry our burdens for us and that You provide the REST that we so desperately need.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily  burdened and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

Christ, the Good Shepherd

O God, whose Son Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd of your people: Grant that, when we hear his voice, we may know him who calls us each by name, and follow where he leads; who, with you and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.

THE RICHES OF HIS GRACE

Ephesians 1:4-7  "For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.  In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will -- to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves."

Oh Lord, we cannot fully understand your great love for us.  That before the creation of the world, we were in your thoughts and plans.  Your desire was to make us holy and blameless in your sight, to adopt us, to give us freely all the riches, grace and mercies of heaven.  We will never comprehend this marvelous reality until we see you face to face.  But while we live our our lives on this earch, help us to seek you face, live in Your Word, and show forth this wonderful mystery in our lives.  I love You.  Amen.

Finished

Genesis 2:2 (ESV)
"And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done,...."

John 19:30 (ESV)
"When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, 'It is finished...'

Acts 20:24 (ESV)
" But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course...."

2 Timothy 4:7 (ESV)
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race,....."

Our God and Father, you finished the work of creation. Jesus you finished the work of salvation. The Apostle Paul finished his work of evangelization. And Father you encourage and expect us to finish our work as witnesses to the Gospel and our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Father we know that you have given us various gifts, talents, abilities and time to finish the good works you planned for us to do. Help us to be faithful to you and obedient in finishing the mission and ministry you ordained for us. May we be mindful that  "..... we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."  Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)

Thank You Father for the privilege's and honor of serving you in doing good works for others, and especially in sharing the Gospel. In Jesus name. Amen

break down the walls that separate us

O God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son: Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth; that, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord. for mercy and direction

Bend down and hear my prayer, O Lord, and answer me, for I am deep in trouble. Be merciful, O Lord, for I am looking up to you in constant hope. Give me happiness, O Lord, for I worship only you. O Lord, you are so good and kind, so ready to forgive, so full of mercy for all who ask your aid.

Tell me where you want me to go and I will go there. May every fiber of my being unite in reverence to your name. With all my heart I will praise you. I will give glory to your name forever, for you love me so much! You are constantly so kind! You have rescued me from deepest hell.

GOD'S MIGHTY HAND

Psalm 37:23 "If the Lord delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm;  though he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.

Psalm 139:5,6 "You hem me in - behind and before; you have laid your hand on me, Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

Psalm 139:7-10  "Where can I go from your Spirit?  Where can I flee from your presence?  If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths you are there;  If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there you hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast."

Heavenly Father, like a child, we need a hand to hold on too.  You have promised us you will uphold us with your mighty right hand.  There is such security in knowing you will not let us slip or fall.  You make our steps firm and and path straight.  What a loving a gracious Father we have.  Thank you for never letting go.  Thank you for the security of a Father that holds us in the palm of His hand.  I love You.  Amen!

Praying for Others

Romans 8:26  & 27(ESV) 26 ".....the Spirit himself  intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words." 27 "....the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

Romans 8:34 (ESV) "....Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us."

1 Timothy 2:1 (ESV)  "First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people,"

Father it is an awesome privilege to participate with Jesus and the Holy Spirit in intercessory prayer for others. The power that is revealed through prayer is not ours but Yours and yet we are wonderfully and amazingly linked with You as we pray in Your will through Jesus name.

Father help us to be faithful  in the holy honor of, intercessory prayer,  to come boldly to the throne of grace, not just for ourselves, but especially others.

In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.

James 5:16 (ESV)

Lord,

Teach me to be generous in my dealings with others.

To the waitress, help my gratuity to be abundant.

To the houseless, grant me mercy and compassion.

• To the sick, give me a heart to listen to their cry.

• To your ministers to the poor, financial support.

Help me Father to be one who reflects your generosity.

help me to trust that you are working

Dear Lord,

The future seems dark and unknown.
Help me to trust that you are working.

The pains and sufferings are overwhelming.
Help me to trust that you are working.

The regrets over yesterday are heartbreaking.
Help me to trust that you are working.

When I consider who you are and what you have done,
In faith, I choose to trust that you are working.

His Presence

LORD, our prayer today is for anyone who is feeling lonely of heart. Anyone who is experiencing an emptiness that leaves them with the feeling of loneliness that settles deep into their spirit.

God we pray that You will minister to all who are in need. Point them toward You. Draw them to Your Word. Fill them with the sweetness of Your Spirit. And cast out that loneliness that threatens to hold them captive.

May Your Presence be felt mightily in the lives of all who seek Your face.

“My eyes are continually toward the LORD. For He will bring my feet out of the net.” (Psalm 25:15)

a new reputation

Lord,

It's my prayer that I am thought well of by others. I desire a good reputation, but confess that I after often more concerned with how others perceive me. I confess that I often work to create a picture of myself for them that they approve of... rather then offer the truth of who I am.

So I'm asking myself this day, Is this what would best honor You?

When I find myself exclude others...
When I find myself gossiping...
When I twist the truth...
When I hide to make sure my wrong doing isn't exposed...

this is the dark side of me wanting a good reputation.

I seek to protect my reputation, and build to further by

hiding
blaming
acusing
deceiving

...and making half-hearted admissions of wrongdoing

My heart wants something that is not bad to want: a good reputation. But my heart is broken because it wants to get that reputation in the wrong way.

Break my heart in the right way, O Lord.

Give me the strength to see how I am trusting in something else other than You - and how this will fail every time.

Give me the eyes to see that You have given me the only reputation I need because Jesus put his righteousness on me.

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, because the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:1-2)

Give me the heart to believe in this new identity in Christ, that I no longer have to say or do things to earn a reputation before others or even before You.

Amen

A STRONG TOWER

Proverbs 18:10 "The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe."

Dear Lord, Your Name contains the fullness of everything I need.  Your name is Creator, Provider, Savior, Healer, Father, Sustainer, Deliverer, Redeemer, Friend.  In your Name I find rest when I am weary, strength when I am weak, safety when I am pursued, hope when I am discouraged and joy when I am sorrowful.  I will praise You as long as I live, and in Your name I will lift my hands in praise.  I love You.  Amen.

Feeling Mighty Fine - The Statler Brothers

I woke up this morning feeling fine I woke up with heaven on my mind
I woke up with joy in my soul cause I knew my Lord had control
I knew I was walkin' in the light cause I'd been on my knees in the night
And I'd pray till the Lord gave a sign and now I'm feeling mighty fine

Well I'm feeling mighty fine I've got heaven on my mind
Don't you know I want to go where the milk and honey flow
There's a light that always shines down inside this heart of mine
I've got heaven on my mind and I'm feeling mighty fine

We're walking with Jesus all the time we're walking and talking as we climb
We're traveling a road to the sky where I know I'll live when I die
He's been telling me all about that land and he tells me that everything is grand
And he says that a home will be mine and now I'm feeling mighty fine

     Oh I'm feeling mighty fine...

1 Corinthians 2:8-9 (GW)
“.....No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him."

for help in times of trouble

O Lord, show Your mercy to me and gladden my heart.

I am like the man on the way to Jericho who was overtaken by robbers, wounded and left for dead.

O Good Samaritan, come to my aid.

I am like the sheep that went astray.

O Good Shepherd, seek me out and bring me home in accord with Your will.

Let me dwell in Your house all the days of my life and praise You forever and ever with those who are there.

when we are feeling lonely

This past year has brought on loneliness for so many. I lived alone for months when my wife was quarantined in a nursing center and experienced loneliness. Please join me in praying this prayer from the folks at the Knowing Jesus website if you are feeling alone.

Loving Lord, I feel so lonely at times, so very alone, though I am often surrounded by crowds of people, but I also realise that the more I concentrate on my loneliness, the more alone I feel. I feel sorry for myself and become depressed and down, and I know that this is not the way that You created us to be.

Lord, I ask You to show me how to conquer this loneliness. Help me not only to cope with loneliness but to conquer it. I know that You have said that You are with us all the time, and that You have promised never to leave us nor forsake us, and I believe Your Word is true.

Help me to rise above all the negative feelings that loneliness brings, and all the negative elements that come with it. I pray that I may be enabled to embrace my loneliness in such a way that my life honours You, and becomes an encouragement to others who may be facing similar lonely feelings.

In Jesus' name I pray. Amen

Powerful and effective prayer

Never take the power of prayer lightly.

It’s important that we keep ourselves in a posture of prayer at all times. We must be continually seeking His face. Seeking His forgiveness. Seeking to be more like Him.

Our prayers will most effective when our hearts and our spirits are in tune with His. We will only achieve this through purposeful time spent in His Word and on our knees.

Read the Word. Study the Scriptures. Dig deep.

And pray hard.

living in light of the cross

Lord,

May we keep these truth close to our hearts this day:

You are faithful
You died for us
You will never leave us
We are Yours
We are Your delight and joy
You have forgiven our sins
You are making the world right

May our love of power, our fear of people, our reputation seeking be put to death as we remember who you are. Help us relinquish control and live with the light and power of the Spirit, who gives us the vision to see ourselves through the light of the cross, and not through the light of our sins and failures.

May we focus on who you are and not on what we have done. May we remember all  You have done and all You  have empowered us to do.

The Cup

Shall I not drink from the cup of suffering  the Father has given me?”
John 18:11 (NLT)

Jesus went where no one else could go, did what no one else could do and endured what no one else could survive. His victory was won in Gethsemane, completed at Calvary and sealed by the Empty Tomb. It is summarized in the following passages of Scripture.

The submission of Gethsemane. Mark 14:32-36 (NLT)
"They went to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and Jesus said, “Sit here while I go and pray.”33 He took Peter, James, and John with him, and he became deeply troubled and distressed. 34 He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”35 He went on a little farther and fell to the ground. He prayed that, if it were possible, the awful hour awaiting him might pass him by. 36 “Abba, Father,” he cried out, “everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

The stress of Gethsemane. Luke 22:41-44 (NLT)
"He walked away, about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, 42 “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” 43 Then an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened him. 44 He prayed more fervently, and he was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood."

The sacredness of Gethsemane. Hebrews 5:7 (NLT)
"While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God."

Father because of the cup Jesus drank for us we have forgiveness that reveals your love, the compassion of Jesus and the merciful ministry of the Holy Spirit.

Your forgiveness so deep that it is beyond human understanding. "God's riches, wisdom, and knowledge are so deep that it is impossible to explain his decisions or to understand his ways." Romans 11:33 (GW)

Your forgiveness is so lofty that it exceeds human imagination. "I—yes, I alone—will blot out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again." Isaiah 43:25 (NLT)

Your forgiveness is so broad that its expanse reaches human boundary. "He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west." Psalm 103:12 (NLT)

Thank you Jesus for drinking the cup of the Father's wrath to provide forgiveness, reconciliation and redemption for us.

"For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity— the man Christ Jesus." 1 Timothy 2:5 (NLT)

Amen.

good friday prayer

Today, O good Jesus, you did not hide your face from shame and spitting for us.

Today, Jesus our Redeemer,
you were mocked,
struck by unbelievers,
and crowned with thorns for us.

Today, good Shepherd,
you laid down your life for the sheep on the cross,
and you were crucified with robbers,
and had your sacred hands nailed through.

Today you were laid in the guarded tomb,
and the saints burst open their tombs.

Today, good Jesus,
you put an end to our sins,
that on the day of your resurrection
we may joyfully receive your holy body,
and be refreshed with your sacred blood.

Amen.

maundy thursday prayer

Lord God,

You sent your Son into the world,
And before his hour had come,
He washed his disciples’ feet.

You had given all things into his hands.
He had come from you, and was going to you,
And what did he do?
He knelt down on the floor,
And washed his friends’ feet.

He was their teacher and their Lord,
Yet he washed their feet.
Lord God, help us learn from his example;
Help us to do as he has done for us.

The world will know we are his disciples
If we love one another.
Strengthen our hands and our wills for love
And for service.

Keep before our eyes the image of your Son,
Who, being God, became a Servant for our sake.
All glory be to him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
One God, now and forever.

Amen
