Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Longing for Home

Father,  we long to be with you. We rejoice in the opportunity to be together in worship in the present age, but we especially look forward to that age to come. We long for the day we will be with You in Your courts above. Help us Lord to remember that every day is one day closer to being with You. Forgive us for all the times we forget You. Forgive us for all the times we treat this earth like it is our home. Thank You for helping us to be able to go on from strength to strength. Thank You that one day we will be like You, for we will see You and be completely changed. Amen

to become one heart and mind

I'm praying not only for them
But also for those who will believe in me
Because of them and their witness about me.
The goal is for all of them to become one heart and mind—
Just as you, Father, are in me and I in you,
So they might be one heart and mind with us.
Then the world might believe that you, in fact, sent me.
Amen

cry out to Jesus

Do you ever feel like this deep down in your spirit?

How long, O LORD???

Do you ever pray and wonder if the LORD is listening? Does He hear?

Does He care about the anguish in your soul? The heartache? The pain?

One thing I have learned in my Christian walk is that He does listen and He does hear. He does care about our brokenness. Our deepest hurt. Our confusion.

Never give up. Never quit praying. Never stop crying out to God.

He loves us with an everlasting and incomprehensible love. A love we can trust. A love we can depend on.

We may not always be able to see that He is working, but we can know deep down into the depths of our being that He is.

Because His Word tells us this truth.

"In my distress I called to the LORD, and He answered me." (Psalm 120:1) CSB
Hang on to the promises of His Word. Hang on to His love.

And cry out to Jesus.

Amen

Friendship with God

Who am I that You are mindful of me?
That You hear me - When I call.

Is it true You are thinking of me?
How You love me. It's amazing!

I am a friend of God.
He calls me friend.

God Almighty. Lord of glory.
You have called me friend.

I am a friend of God
You call me friend.

Amen

In Memory

Father, we thank you for the sacrifices of those who gave their lives for this country. We thank you for the freedom you have given us. May those who remember with sadness be comforted and strengthened by your love and grace. Amen

a prayer of remembrance

Leavenworth National Cemetery
As we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy every day, we think of how they have followed in the footsteps of your son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Please hold our servicemen and women in your strong arms. Cover them with your sheltering grace and your presence as they stand in the gap for our protection. We also remember the families of our troops. We ask for your unique blessings to fill their homes, and we pray your peace, provision, and strength will fill their lives. May the members of our armed forces be supplied with courage to face each day and may they trust in the Lord's mighty power to accomplish each task. Let our military brothers and sisters feel our love and support. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

day by day

Thanks be to thee, my Lord Jesus Christ,
For all the benefits thou hast won for me,
For all the pains and insults thou hast borne for me.
O most merciful Redeemer, Friend, and Brother,

May I know thee more clearly,
Love thee more dearly,
And follow thee more nearly:
For ever and ever.

St. Richard Chichester (1197-1253)

These words were incorporated into a popular song from Godspell (the play and the movie) titled "Day by Day". Years before I knew Christ, when I was in my early twenties, I would cry when this song came on the radio. My young wife had gone blind (read about that here) and I did not have the words to pray or the ability to express the pain I was experiencing. I guess it was a part of my spiritual journey. Little did I know that someone in the 13th century was responsible for the words.

So here I am, some 40+ years later, still praying those ancient words.

Day by day ... dear Lord I pray ... to know you more clearly ... to love you more dearly ... to follow you more nearly ... day by day ... for ever and ever.

Amen

Sanctification

Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.
(1 Thessalonians 5:23-24)

O HOLY SPIRIT,
As the sun if full of light, the ocean full of water,
Heaven full of glory, so may my heart be full of thee.
Vain are all divine purposes of love
and the redemption wrought by Jesus
except thou work within,
regenerating by thy power,
giving me eyes to see Jesus,
showing me the realities of the unseen world.
Give me thyself without measure,
as an unimpaired fountain,
as inexhaustible riches.
I bewail my coldness, poverty, emptiness,
imperfect vision, languid service,
prayerless prayers, praiseless praises.
Suffer me not to grieve or resist thee.
Come as power,
to expel every rebel lust, to reign supreme and keep me thine;
Come as teacher,
leading me into all truth, filling me with all understanding;
Come as love,
that I may adore the Father, and love him as my all;
Come as joy,
to dwell in me, move in me, animate me;
Come as light,
illuminating the Scripture, moulding me in its laws;
Come as sanctifier,
body, soul and spirit wholly thine;
Come as helper,
with strength to bless and keep, directing my every step;
Come as beautifier,
bringing order out of confusion, loveliness out of chaos.
Magnify to me thy glory by being magnified in me,
and make re redolent of thy fragrance.

a prayer of release

I often say that I am only trusting the Lord when I am not in control. Trials and suffering remind me that I should not lean on my own understanding but trust God with all of my heart.

Dear God, help us to release control of our lives when our days don’t go as we plan. Cause us to remember that you are still at work in life’s events. Help us to trust you throughout each day.

Amen.

Serving

Father, help us to follow the example of our Master and Lord, when he washed his disciples' feet. Help us to live and serve sacrificially, willing to lay down our lives for others. Help us to follow all the way to the cross. Amen

a prayer for the middle east

Heavenly Father, we pray for the peace of the Middle East. We are sad to see violence and suffering as people are injured and killed on all sides of the conflict. We don't understand why it has to be this way but we pray for all the peoples in that area of the world.

We ask that your glorious mercy and humility be given to everyone involved. We ask for your kingdom to come and rule over governments and terrorists. Protect all from harm. May your truth and light shine in the darkness.

May your love prevail where hatred exists and may all peoples in the region, and indeed the whole world, embrace and worship the Prince of Peace.

Amen

to walk the road of peace

To you, Creator of nature and humanity, of truth and beauty, I pray:

Hear my voice,
for it is the voice
of the victims of all wars and violence
among individuals and nations.
Hear my voice,
for it is the voice
of all children who suffer and who will suffer
when people put their faith in weapons and war.
Hear my voice
when I beg you to instil
into the hearts of all human beings
the vision of peace,
the strength of justice
and the joy of fellowship.
Hear my voice,
for I speak for the multitudes
in every country and in every period of history
who do not want war
and are ready to walk the road of peace.
Hear my voice
and grant insight and strength
so that we may always respond
to hatred with love,
to injustice with total dedication to justice,
to need with the sharing of self,
to war with peace.
O God, hear my voice,
and grant to the world your everlasting peace.

My Dwelling Place

Dear Lord, You are my dwelling place. And in You, I have shelter from every stormy circumstance and harsh reality. I will not pretend the hard things don't exist, but I will rejoice that Your covering protects me and prevents those hard things from affecting me like they used to. I declare today that I will not live in a state of fear. I place all of my fears into Your hands and commit to trusting Your plan. In Jesus' name, Amen

a prayer for guidance

Lord, grant that I may always allow myself to be guided by you, always follow your plans, and perfectly accomplish your holy will.

Grant that in all things, great and small, today and all the days of my life, I may do whatever you require of me.

Help me respond to the slightest prompting of your grace, so that I may be your trustworthy instrument for your honor.

May your will be done in time and in eternity by me, in me, and through me.

Amen.

Even when it’s hard...

Have you ever lost hope?

Have you ever felt like your prayers were unheard or perhaps simply unanswered?

I dare say that we have all experienced this at some time in our walk. Times of despair and times of defeat.

But....

The Word of God is so beautiful and so powerful. Time and time again, hope is woven into the written Word of truth.

Time and time again, we are reminded that our circumstances aren’t our destination. Our present lot in life isn’t our eternity.

We have hope. And we have it in abundance and we have access to it every minute of every day.

His Name is Jesus. And He is our hope.

When life is difficult. When we are desperate. When things looks bleak....

When things are hard..

Prayer is the key to opening up hope within us. Fall on your face. Cry out to our LORD. And let Him dispense the hope of who He is into your spirit and soul.

Pray always.

Amen

a birthday prayer

Today is my birthday. Thought I might pray.

God, as I celebrate the day that You brought me into this amazing world, I want to thank You for all the good things You have placed into my life. I need, and ask for, Your guidance and protection all the days of my life. In this coming year I pray to find new friends to encourage and times to celebrate life with old ones. I offer myself afresh to you. Work in me to accomplish your plans and purposes.

a prayer for moms

Father of All Mothers,

Bless our moms today as we honor them and their love for us.
Grant them strength, health, joy, grace and laughter.
Help them to live guilt free knowing they have done their best.

Bestow on them a hope for the future and for their kids.
Give them a hunger to know You, love You more, and follow You.
Most of all, reveal Yourself to them and encourage them.

a prayer for when we feel lost

My Lord God,

I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end.

Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so.

But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.

And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it.

Therefore I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

Amen

a prayer for mercy and grace

I pray for all those whom I have in any way grieved, vexed, oppressed, or scandalized, by word or deed, knowingly or unknowingly, that you may forgive all our sins and offences against each other.

Take away, O Lord, from our hearts all suspiciousness, indignation, anger, and contention, and whatever is calculated to wound charity or to lessen love of others.

Have mercy on me, O Lord, have mercy on all who seek your mercy; give grace to the needy, make us so to live that we may be found worthy to enjoy the fulfilment of your grace and attain to eternal life.

Amen

WORDS FROM JESUS

We speak to God through Prayer ~ God speaks to us from His Word.  Listen as God speaks to you through His word.

My Beloved ~ Do not be wise in your own eyes; but reverently fear Me and flee from evil.  This will bring you a much healthier life.

I am the only living God.  All of the world's wisdom is foolishness to Me, but even my foolishness is wiser than the world's best wisdom.  So listen carefully to My words.  Pay close attention to My instructions.  Focus on them and treasure them in your heart.

If you will delight in My Word and meditate on it day and night, then you will be like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.  And whatever you do will prosper.

My Word will bring you life and will help you in your time of need.  It is powerful, more powerful than the hopelessness that may invade your soul.  So turn to Me now.  Never forget that I only desire good for you!

I know at times you will face terrible crises, but I also know that My heart for you is to have you discover hope in the midst of your crisis. So turn to Me.  And as you reach out to Me, you will discover My love for you.  I will restore to you a joy greater than you could imagine.  I want your life to be full for you are Mine!

DO NOT WORRY

"Then Jesus said to his disciples, Therefore do not worry about your life, what you eat, or what you will wear.  Life is more than food and the body more than clothes."  Luke 12:22

How wonderful it is to know that my Father is the God of all creation.  My Father is the Provider who feeds and clothes all nature.  My Father rules over an unshakeable kingdom that I am inheriting and the riches of heaven have been set aside for me.  Oh Abba, my dear Father, You are my greatest treasure.  You are an endless supply of all that I need for life and godliness.  Amen!

Our Wandering Hearts

Lord, our hearts threaten to lead us astray. Bind our wandering hearts to You. Unite us; make us one with You. Thank You that when we believed, we were marked in Christ with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory. Amen

Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it

Prone to leave the God I love

Here's my heart, oh, take and seal it

Seal it for Thy courts above."

Yes, Lord, bind our wandering hearts to Thee.
~Robert Robinson

thy kingdom come in us

How is it Lord that you have given us choices?
In times of struggle it is so hard to know your will.
We ask you Holy Spirit to open our inner eyes.
That we might know and understand your ways.

We pray for your help and for your holy presence.
That we might be vessels of your mercy and love.
As we walk may we always know that heaven is our home.
In confidence we ask that your kingdom might come in us.
