a prayer to be flexible

Dear Lord,

Grant me flexibility, the ability to bend without breaking.

Enable me to find the grace to adapt to change with a peaceful heart.

Help me to be less stubborn and more open to new experiences.

Bless me that I might trust you when my plans go sideways.

Open my heart that I might find joy in unexpected moments.

And guide me to release rigidness and be more responsive to You.

In all things I will praise you and seek your will.

a prayer for when we are afraid

Be gracious to me, O God ... have mercy on me ... oppression and depression seems to camp all around me ... I need you Lord.

I put my trust in you ... I am afraid ... I lean into your words for courage ... in you I trust ... I shall not be afraid ... what can flesh do to me?

All day long evil seems to lurk trying to injure me ... bombarding me with nasty thoughts ... trying to tempt me and cause me to fall ... but you are faithful Lord.

You have kept count of my trials ... saved my tears and written them in your book ... you understand me and are touched by my pain.

This I know ... you are for me ... I believe your promises to me ... in you I trust ... I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?

I will offer thanks to you today ... for you have delivered my soul from death ... yes, my feet from falling ... that I may walk before you in the light of life.

Praise you Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

a prayer to find rest for my soul

Lord,

I am weary, tired and worn out.

I come to you seeking rest for my body, mind, and soul.

Please quiet my anxieties and grant me peace in my life.

Calm my frantic thoughts and bring peace to my troubled soul.

Touch my life, restore my joy, my strength and my energy.

Help me to wake refreshed and ready to face each new day.

Arm me with your strength and bless me to find deep rest.

You are worthy. I will trust in you.

Compassionate Lord,

I find myself on the edge, exhausted, and overwhelmed.
The burdens seem heavier than I can bear.

The tasks more significant than my strength.

The journey longer than I can handle.
I pray for the wisdom, courage and love to recover and go on.

I place myself in your hands trusting in your loving strength.

I exalt your name above all names and proclaim my faith in you.

Dear Heavenly Father,

I long to have faith like a child.

Help me to trust in you with the simplicity and purity of a child.

Restore the joy and wonder of my childhood faith.

Free me from the hurts and limitations that have hindered my belief.

Help me to believe in you, to trust in your love, grace and provision.

Just as a child trusts their parent, help me to trust you.

God of all Peace,

I come to you seeking wisdom and guidance for my life.

I struggle with wanting more and feeling discontent with my circumstances.

Help me to learn contentment and to release control of my life.

Remind me that peace and fulfillment come from you and not from the things.

Help me to focus on your care, your goodness and your provision in my life.

Dear Father God,

I come seeking your grace and strength to take risks.

Stepping outside of my comfort zone is scary and challenging.

Give me the courage to trust in your guidance and plan for my life.

Help me to discern when to step out in faith and when to wait.

Give me wisdom to adjust my plans as life unfolds before me.

I ask to not be paralyzed by fear, but rather filled with confidence.

Help me to be bold and not afraid to take risks as you lead me.

I know that you will be at work in my life whenever I say yes to you.

a prayer for those with chronic illness

Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me?

(Ps. 43:5)

Father, I feel like a leper in a world of healthy people. I am alone, and I choose aloneness over the threat of judgment and more shame. Please keep people like Job's friends far from me. I'm not a project to be fixed, a riddle to be solved, or a waif to be pitied. Who can possibly understand what it feels like to be me? Who will meet me in this pain?

Only you, my God, only you can.

I'm sorry that I cannot run to you, Father. I have no strength and little will. The best I can do is to collapse on Jesus. So I fall on the One who took my place and bore my shame.

Meet me here, Father, and pour your mercy upon me. For Jesus' sake, I make my plea. Amen.

a confession of trust

Dearest Father,

My life is hard and my days are lonely.
Even so, I will trust you Lord.

Sickness has consumed my world and tears adorn my eyes.
Even so, I will trust you Lord.

Friends have left me and I feel forsaken.

Each day seems darker than the day before.
Even so, I will trust you Lord.

A Prayer for Hope

Father God,

In difficult times it is easy to lose hope and faith in You.

Father, we admit that we've lost sight of You.

We ask that Your Holy Spirit reignite within us the hope that we need, deep down in our bones. Give us a still heart and spirit because we know that You are a loving God that will never abandon.

Your grace abounds in the deep unknown, and this truth is what we need help placing our hope in.

We know that when our hope is built on You, we can stand firm through any storm. For You are our God, always, in times on the mountaintop and times in the valley.

Amen.

We wait in hope for the Lord;

he is our help and our shield.

in him our hearts rejoice,

for we trust in his holy name.

May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,

even as we put our hope in you. (Psalm 33:20-22)

Heavenly Father,

It feels impossible to feel steady right now. Sure.

Sure that anything is going to be alright.

Lord, convict me of my own desire to trust of people, in countries, in systems. may my one desire to be to trust in You alone.

Teach me to trust You in the steady and the instead times. The times that are unsure, uncertain, and chaotic.

May Your fear comfort and guide me in my own fear. May Your faithfulness be what I put my trust in.

Praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord, my soul.

I will praise the Lord all my life;

I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

Do not put your trust in princes,

in human beings, who cannot save.

When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;

on that very day their plans come to nothing.

Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob,

whose hope is in the Lord their God. (Ps. 146:1-5)

A prayer when death is near

WHEN DEATH IS NEAR

As we walk through this valley,

we come to you, Lord God.

In our sadness, may we

know your comfort,

in our darkness, may we sense your presence;

in our bleakness, may we discover your hope;

in our anguish, may we find your strength.

Come and walk with us,

Lord Jesus, we pray. May we know

we are not alone: may you come

alongside us on every step of our journey,

even in this gloom. Give us direction when

we don’t know which way to turn; give us

courage when the path gets narrow and rocky;

give us peace when the way becomes uncertain.

Give us a glimpse of your hope,

we pray, in Christ’s name.

Amen.

A prayer as your embrace the silence of a noisy world

Dear God,

Speak gently in my silence.

When the loud outer noises of my surroundings

and the loud inner noises of my fears

keep pulling me away from you,

help me to trust that you are still there

even when I am unable to hear you.

Give me ears to listen to your small, soft voice saying:

“Come to me, you who are overburdened,

and I will give you rest.…

for I am gentle and humble of heart.”

Let that loving voice be my guide.

Amen.

Open your hands when you pray

"When you want to pray, then, the first question is: How do I open my closed hands? Certainly not by violence. Nor by a forced decision. Perhaps you can find your way to prayer by carefully listening to the words the angel spoke to Zechariah, Mary, the shepherds, and the women at the tomb: “Don’t be afraid.” Don’t be afraid of the One who wants to enter your most intimate space and invite you to let go of what you are clinging to so anxiously. ... Don’t be afraid to offer your hate, bitterness, and disappointment to the One who is love and only love. Even if you know you have little to show, don’t be afraid to let it be seen."

Dear God,

I am so afraid to open my clenched fists!

Who will I be when I have nothing left to hold on to?

Who will I be when I stand before you with empty hands?

Please help me to gradually open my hands

and to discover that I am not what I own,

but what you want to give me.

And what you want to give me is love—

unconditional, everlasting love.

Amen.

More Than Able

Heavenly Father,

Remembering. I'm so bad at it.

And when I read those lists of names in the Bible, it's exhausting. But then I remember: You did that so the people would remember who they are. Remember all that You did for their ancestors. Remember all the goodness and faithfulness of Yours that is part of their heritage.

Help me remember.

You are a powerful, strong, and faithful God that comes through and keeps Hie promises and yet I am so quick to forget just how able you are, just how faithful You have been, and just how incredible Your works are.

Teach me to remember who You are so I can rest in spite of all that is in front of me.
