Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Father, thank you for all of your mercies to us. Thank you for the times you are gentle with us when we stray. Thank you for the times you discipline us and put us back on the path. Thank you that we can be confident that your love for us never changes. Amen

OBJECT LESSON FROM NATURE

This morning as I carried a load of laundry to the Laundry Room, I noticed a clump of dead leaves hanging in a most lovely green tree.

Upon on closer investigation saw the reason.  It had broken off from the branch and the source of life.

John 15:5-7 "I am the vine; you are the branches.  If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.  If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers........If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you."

Object lessons are all around us if we will just notice.  I don't want to become a clump of dried leaves, ready for the trash....

Lord help me to remain in the Vine, and be nourished by the life giving source.  I love You.  Amen

Worthy of Praise

Father, as prone as we are to first approach You with our own concerns, needs, questions and fears, today we just want to thank You!  Thank you that we can relate to you as our heavenly Father. Thank you for your heart felt way of understanding our weaknesses and failures. Thank you for your patience and encouragement to share our hearts with you.

Somehow Father we feel akin to the Psalmist when he wrote in Psalm 139:17 (GW)
How precious are your thoughts concerning me, O God! How vast in number they are!

Thank you Father for your grace, generosity, kindness, and the many ways you show your love for us.

You are glorious and worthy of all praise!

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

We pray this in the Name of Your beloved Son and our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen

O Lord, I give my life to you

O LORD, I give my life to you.
I trust in you, my God!
Do not let me be disgraced,
or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat.
No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced,
but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others.

Show me the right path, O LORD;
point out the road for me to follow.
Lead me by your truth and teach me,
for you are the God who saves me.
All day long I put my hope in you.

Remember, O LORD,
your compassion and unfailing love,
which you have shown from long ages past.
Do not remember the rebellious sins of my youth.
Remember me in the light of your unfailing love,
for you are merciful, O LORD.

The LORD is good and does what is right;
he shows the proper path to those who go astray.
He leads the humble in doing right,
teaching them his way.
The LORD leads with unfailing love
and faithfulness all who keep his covenant and obey his demands.
For the honor of your name, O LORD,
forgive my many, many sins.

Who are those who fear the LORD?
He will show them the path they should choose.
They will live in prosperity,
and their children will inherit the land.
The LORD is a friend to those who fear him.
He teaches them his covenant.
My eyes are always on the LORD,
for he rescues me from the traps of my enemies.

Turn to me and have mercy,
for I am alone and in deep distress.
My problems go from bad to worse.
Oh, save me from them all!
Feel my pain and see my trouble.
Forgive all my sins.
See how many enemies I have
and how viciously they hate me!

Protect me! Rescue my life from them!
Do not let me be disgraced,
for in you I take refuge.
May integrity and honesty protect me,
for I put my hope in you.
O God, ransom Israel from all its troubles.

Amen

Let's not fail!

"The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 5:16)

Faith and true prayer are like two sides of the same coin - inseparable. A.W. Tozer says that men often pray without faith (though this is not true prayer), but it is not thinkable that men should have faith and not pray.

Whatever God can do, faith can do, and whatever faith can do, prayer can do when it is offered up in faith.

The invitation God extends to us to pray, is an invitation to Omnipotence, for prayer engages the Omnipresent God and brings Him into our human affairs.

Let's not fail ourselves and fail the world buy failing to pray. It's time to fall on our faces and seek the One who can and who will and who does do miracles!

Our Father

(This prayer is the first of a series based on the Lord's Prayer.)

Father in Heaven,

I thank You that we can call You Father. I thank You that You choose to make us Your children. Help us to live in the light of that. Help us to trust in Your love and Your concern. Help us to faithfully represent You to a world that needs to know You. And help to turn to You  for help and comfort in time of need.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen

Fruit of the Spirit: Gentleness

Father, as you are gentle with us, help us to be gentle with others. Let us be people who will not break a bruised reed or put out a smoldering wick. Help us to be approachable because others see Jesus in us. Amen

THE JOY OF YOUR PRESENCE

* No matter what your circumstances may be, you can find Joy in My Presence.   On some days, Joy is generous strewn along your life-path, glistening in the sunlight.  On days like that, being content is as simple as breathing the next breath or taking the next step.  Other days are overcast and gloomy; you feel the strain of the journey, which seems endless.  Dull gray rocks greet your gaze and cause your feet to ache.  Yet Joy is still attainable.  Search for it as for hidden treasure.

Surely you have granted him eternal blessings and
made him glad with the joy of your presence.
Psalm 21:6

Dear Heavenly Father, giver of life and joy.  I pray today that I will have the same deep love for You whether I'm walking in sunlight, or trying to climb over rocks and boulders.  I will enjoy Your presence in the sunlight, and search for You in the dreary times like hidden treasure.  You have promised to be with me and keep me in ALL PLACES.  I love You.   Amen

What Matters to God

Isaiah 65:24 (NLT)
I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers!

Thank you Father for your promise to answer our prayers and your pleasure in doing so. Thank you that we are encouraged to come to you in prayer embolden by Hebrews 4:16 (NLT) “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”

We know Father that you care for us and are totally aware of the things that concern us. I am reminded of the Song Audrey Meier wrote: “It Matters to Him About You.”

Although God has millions of souls to see about
Although the sun, the moon, the stars are in his care
How wonderful to know wherever you may go
He can be reached just by a whispered prayer.

It matters to him about you
Your heartaches your sorrow he shares
Regardless of what you may do
He wants you He loves you, he cares
Oh yes, it matters to him about you
Believe it because it is true
Cling to his hand, He'll understand
For it matters to Him about you.

Father we gladly accept the comfort and assurance of 1 Peter 5:7 (NLT) “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” Thank you Father that we matter to you.

With deepest love and appreciation.

Prayer to be patience and even-tempered

Lord,

Here I am facing a new day. I know that without yielding to your calmness and contentment, I will succumb to frustration and irritation.

I seek your help today.

Make me more aware of my emotions and my attitudes. Remind me that I have control over the attitudes that I choose to present to the world.

Remind me that I can learn to overcome every challenging situation today by putting on the shoes of peace and displaying an even temper.

Remind me to show kindness.

Give me more ability to receive your love and give it away to others today.*

Help me to work hard and do my best. But help me to care more about loving others than I care about getting tasks done.

Lord, I want to grow spiritually this day. I want to be more Christ-like tonight when I go to bed than when I got up this morning.

Today I will focus on developing the fruit of the spirit instead of pleasing myself.

Today I will thank you, Lord, for leading me toward love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Today I will praise you, Lord, and I will celebrate your love for me.

In Jesus' name I pray,

Amen

Vision of God's Love

Father,

Help us to catch a clearer vision of Your love for us. Even in the difficult times. Especially in the difficult times. Let us see beyond the present moment. Let us see Your love for us at the the cross. Let us embrace that love and live in the light of it.

Dear Lord, Thank you for those who serve You in ministry with us.  For those who have stood by our side in the good and bad times.  Have held us up in prayer, and encouraged us continually.

Thank you especially today for Jim and Ann Weaver, who stood with Don as his assistant and Jim who made the praise team so meaningful with his writing and playing of wonderful worship songs.

For Ministry and Friendship I give you thanks.  To God be the Glory, with out You, there would be not ministry.   I love you.  Amen.

A Day Well lived

Proverbs 2:6 (ESV)
    For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;

Father, each day of life contains its own journey into the unknown. A path that may be similar to others yet unique in that it is yet to be traveled. So for this day’s journey and the uncertainties it holds, I pray for your wisdom, knowledge and understanding.

Wisdom to discern the best choices, knowledge to inform me of the appropriate options and understanding to have the insight into what will please you most.

I realize that my choices not only affect me but also those I love, respect and cherish.  So, at the end of this day, may my life be an honor to You and a blessing to those it touches. May others benefit from the mercy I have received, then it be a day well lived in life's journey.

I pray this in the Name of Your beloved Son and my Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

For Those in Pain

Father,

I pray for those in pain, whether physical or mental. I pray that You may be near to them and either heal it or bring them through it. I pray that they may turn to You in this time of need. And I pray that You may bring them close to Yourself and give them peace.

AMERICA WAKE UP!

In Jeremiah 6:16-19 NLT

"So now the Lord pleads, "Stop right where you are!  Look for the old, godly way, and walk in it.  Travel its paths, and you will find rest for your souls.  But you reply, "NO, that's not the road we want.....NO, we won't pay attention."

Oh dear Lord, this so sounds like what you are saying to our country.   You want us to STOP where we are and realize we are going down the wrong path.  You warn us, but we are stubborn as a Nation and say "We don't want that road, we will not pay attention to your warnings".

Father, I know how much you love us but as a nation we have turned our backs on you and are intent on going our own way.  Forgive us, and give wisdom and courage to those who have to make the hard decisions on what come next in this time of an "out of control election".  Lord have mercy on us.  My heart grieves as I know all conservative Christians do as we look around us but we know that ultimately you are in control.  I love You.  Amen.

Something to Look Forward to.....

Isaiah 26:19 (NLT)
”But those who die in the LORD will live; their bodies will rise again! Those who sleep in the earth will rise up and sing for joy! ….”

1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 (NLT)
”And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died.

Father thank you for the blessed, enduring, and eternal hope we have in Christ. This gives us such a different perception on the events of this life and the one in which we will share with you throughout eternity. Thank you for the joy we have in Christ now and the ultimate fullness of joy that awaits us when the morning of eternity dawns on that eternal day.

Yes, as the Psalmist said: “
“….Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.”
Psalm 30:5 (NLT)

For Political Perspective

Father,

I pray for the citizens of the United States, and particularly your people, in this political season. Give us wisdom to know what to do and how to respond and who to vote for. Help us to see beyond externals and the show and to see the real principles and character of the candidates. But more than that, I pray we as a nation will become concerned with doing what is right and good in Your sight and not just with what is convenient.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen

Fruit of the Spirit: Faithfulness

Father, you are always faithful. Help us to remember that when the stuff of life happens. Help us to be faithful people, faithful to you and faithful to each other. Let us be loyal to our Father and to our brothers and sisters. Amen

THE DEEP LOVE OF JESUS

Psalms 139: 1-4  O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.  You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.  You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.  Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord.

O the deep, deep love of Jesus
Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free.
Rolling like a mighty ocean
In its fullness over me.
Underneath me, all around me,
Is the current of Thy love;
Leading onward, leading homeward
To my glorious rest above.

O the deep, deep love of Jesus,
Spread His praise from shore to shore
How He loveth, ever loveth,
Changes never, never more.

How He watches ore His loved ones,
Died to call them all His own;
How for them He interceedeth,
Watches ore them from the throne.

Dear Father, these Scriptures, and this very old and beloved hymn are what my heart is feeling today.  You know me completely.  Love me so deeply, and watch over me every day.  I love you.  Amen.

PEACE

Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Father in these stressful times when so much uncertainty grips our minds I thank you for the peace You provide through our faith in Christ. Your peace is stronger than our fears, greater than our uncertainties and gives us strength for the continuing journey.

You guard our hearts and minds with the security of your wisdom and the power of your love. You say to us “fear not” and so we will not fear because of our simple trust in You. The promise of Your peace and protection is more comforting than anything that may assail our faith.

Thank you Father that we can relax in these stressful times because Your “peace exceeds anything we can understand.”

Amen
