A prayer for church leaders

Father God, we pray for those whom You have called to lead the church. We thank you for them. We thank you for calling them to this task, to be shepherds of the flock. Thank you for their obedience and faith to accept Your calling.

We pray that you will guide them and equip them. As they wait on you, may you speak to them through Your Word, guided by the Holy Spirit.

Help our leaders to be godly men and women whose lives reflect the character and teachings of Christ himself.

Give them wisdom to understand the times we live in and the direction we should go.

Give them the burning desire to go deep into Your Holy Word.

Give them the required gifts to lead us in a godly manner.

Give them the passion to constantly seek Your face in prayer and worship.

Give them the commitment to seek to live holy lives before You.

Give them the courage to make difficult decisions as directed by You.

Deepen their trust in you. Daily breathe Your life into them in a fresh way.

Renew us, too, Lord! Give us the spiritual discernment and humility to pray that our lives will reflect the very same things we ask of our leaders.

In Jesus’ name, we pray.

Help me pray for those in authority in my nation

Help me pray for those in authority in my nation.

Help me to honour You by praying for them whether I like them or not, wherther I agree or disagree with them, whether I voted or did not vote for them.

Help me to pray for my nation's president, or prime minister.

Help me to pray for my state or province's governer.

Help me to pray for my city's mayor and councillors.

Help me to pray that they make wise and godly decisions that honour You, and that we may be free to love a peacefuland quiet life, dignified in every way.

Help me to pray for their health and protection.

Help me to pray that they may come to have a personal relationship with You, Lord Jesus.

Help me to pray for those in authority in my nation.

a prayer for those who lead

Grant unto all Kings and Rulers, O Lord, health, peace, concord, and stability, that they may administer the government which You have given them.

For You, O heavenly Master, King of the Ages, gives to the children of men glory and honor, and power over all things that are upon the earth.

Do, Lord, direct their counsel according to that which is good and well pleasing in Your sight, that administering in peace and gentleness, with godliness, the power which You have given them, they may obtain Your favor.

a prayer for leaders and the healing of our land

The divine injunction expressed in this image was directed at the children of Israel but it is good advice for us today. Keywords for us are humility, seek and repentance. If God is to heal our land then those of us who name Christ as Lord must humble ourselves, repent and seek the Lord. It is not up to our leaders to bring healing. It is up to us. Let us pray.

Father of all creation, we seek you today and turn from the ways that have divided us. We confess that we have been proud - bring humility to our hearts as we repent. Please cause each of us, in prayer, to uplift our leaders at every level and in every place. We ask for Your healing to come. Amen

A Prayer for our Nation

Almighty GOD; we make our earnest prayer that You will keep the United States in Your holy protection, that You will incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States of America at large. And finally that You will most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of The Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication, we beseech You, through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen

O God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son:

Look with compassion on the whole human family;

a prayer for our country

Almighty God, who hast given us this good land for our heritage:

We humbly beseech thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of thy favor and glad to do thy will.

Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way.

Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues.

Pray for our Nation

Dear Father God,

My heart is heavy with concern for our leaders and our nation. There is much chaos, confusion and deception among us. We, the people of this country, are daily fed with information that is disheartening and news that cause men's hearts to fail. Help us, strengthen us to trust You more each day knowing that You are sovereign and nothing can thwart Your plan. You our God are in the midst of us and we must not worry or be anxious or fearful, but we are to make our requests to You with thanksgiving.

We thank You for the many, many blessings of grace You have poured out on us and we intercede on behalf of our nation, asking forgiveness for our sin and rebellion, and ask that You would have mercy on us. Would you guide our leaders with Your strength and wisdom and give strength and protection for each new day. We ask You to pour out Your Spirit over this land and bring people to You. In the powerful name of Jesus, Amen

for those in authority

We are told to pray for those in authority. This is true whether or not we agree with their policies. If they are following the wrong principles, they need our prayers even more.

Father,

I pray for all those in government, whether at the national or local level. I pray You will give them wisdom. I pray You will give them wisdom to do, not just what is expedient, but what is right. I pray they will take into consideration Your will when making their decisions. And I pray they may lead us down the right and best paths.

Prayer for the Rulers of the Nations

Today, O God. I hold before you the rulers of the nations —
Kings, Queens, Presidents, Prime Ministers — all who
are in positions of supreme leadership.

I can be quick to criticize: help me, Lord to first enter
their dilemma. On most issues of state I have the luxury
of withholding judgment, of not committing myself,
of sitting on the fence. Even when I have an opinion,
it has little influence and seldom any consequence.
Not so with rulers of the nations.
To the extent that they really lead, they must
make decisions, even if they are poor ones.

Help these leaders, O God, in the loneliness of their decisions.
Put wise counselors around them.

Take, I pray, the bits and pieces of virtue that are
in each ruler and cause them to grow and mature.
And take all the destructive motives and cause
them to vanish like smoke in the wind.

Lord, I know that many — and perhaps most —
rulers do not know you, nor do they seek you.
But you seek them! Help them see how good right decisions are.
And where decisions must be made that are not in their
own interest, deepen their sense of duty. Having seen
the light, give them the courage to walk in the light.

²³As soon as they were freed, Peter and John returned to the other believers and told them what the leading priests and elders had said. ²⁴When they heard the report, all the believers lifted their voices together in prayer to God:

“O Sovereign Lord, Creator of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them— ²⁵ you spoke long ago by the Holy Spirit through our ancestor David, your servant, saying, ‘Why were the nations so angry? Why did they waste their time with futile plans? ²⁶The kings of the earth prepared for battle; the rulers gathered together against the LORD and against his Messiah.’^{2 7}“In fact, this has happened here in this very city! ³¹After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.

Yes Father may your people, around the world, be filled with the Holy Spirit and with courage, compassion and clarity bear witness to the glorious and transforming truth of the Word. In Jesus holy Name.

Presidential Election Prayer

In this season of presidential elections we ask you Father for:

Wisdom to know which person would make the best leader for our nation;
A revealing of hearts that we might discern the presence of humility in each candidate;
The ability to regard the conditions of our neighbors as more important than our own;
Insight to see past what is today and what might be tomorrow;
A sense of unity with others even though they vote differently than we vote.

Above all Lord we pray that your kingdom would come and your will be done in this election season.

For Political Leadership

We are once more in the midst of a presidential choice. While I do not want to get into partisan politics, I would like to pray for that choice.

Father,

I pray that You will give this country wisdom in choosing a new leader. I pray You will help us see behind the hype and the image to see what is best. I pray that You will show us someone who will do what is right and not just what is convenient. That we may chose someone who is an individual of character and not just someone who will promise us everything but cannot deliver.

A Peacemaker Prayer

We ask you Father to help us to be, and to become, peacemakers. We pray first for ourselves, that we would find and experience a deep peace within. That we might experience that aspect of the fruit of your Spirit in such a way that it would spill out to each person our lives touch. May your peace spread through us to our neighbors, our cities, our states and our nations.

In this season of Advent, may the reality of the Prince of Peace be present in a new way. May the Babe of Bethlehem spread his peace throughout the world. And as this year closes and a new one appears, we pray that Spirit led peacemakers would arise in the world. That those who only know war would begin to learn and experience peace.

In the name of the One who brings peace.

Romans 13:1 (NLT)
….all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.

Psalms 101:4-7 (NLT)
⁴I will reject perverse ideas and stay away from every evil. ⁵I will not tolerate people who slander their neighbors. I will not endure conceit and pride. ⁶I will search for faithful people to be my companions. Only those who are above reproach will be allowed to serve me. ⁷I will not allow deceivers to serve in my house, and liars will not stay in my presence.

Father, when I think of why you established government and King David’s criteria for leaders in his administration how I pray that from local cities to our nation’s capital there would be such a standard for men and women in public service.

There is a need for national repentance and returning to YOU. Help us Father, to turn from our selfish, self-serving and self-seeking ways. Our nation is divided and disgraced by the hypocrisy and hedonism we embrace. We should be blushing from the shame of our sin and yet we are brazen and arrogant in our foolishness.

Father we could be so much better. We could have peace and prosperity if we would only be mindful and obedient. Your Word reminds us that: “Godliness makes a nation great, but sin is a disgrace to any people.” Proverbs 14:34 (NLT)

Father, help our leaders to lead the way back to YOU! Amen

Wisdom for our New President

Today Barack Obama is sworn into the office of the president of the United States on the same bible that Abraham Lincoln used for that same purpose. Leaders of nations all have a beginning.. here is the way that King Solomon prayed at the beginning of his reign.

That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him,

"Ask for whatever you want me to give you."

Solomon answered God,

"You have shown great kindness to David my father and have made me king in his place. Now, LORD God, let your promise to my father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people who are as numerous as the dust of the earth. Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?"

Please join me in asking our Father to grant Barack Obama wisdom and knowledge that he may lead and govern our nation in a manner pleasing to God.

Praying for our Protectors

O LORD, you will keep us safe and protect us from such people forever. (Psalm 12:7)

This simple prayer (below) was emailed to me. I liked the protect as they protect part of the prayer. Often God uses protectors to keep us safe. Please join me in praying for soldiers, policemen and others that protect us and keep us safe.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. In Jesus name we ask.

Praying for our President Elect

Lee Grady offers ten ways that we can pray for Barack Obama.. here are a few of those ways:

Pray for his protection.
Cover his wife and daughters in prayer.
Pray that he will govern with God’s wisdom.
Ask God to keep our him humble.
Pray for wise and righteous advisers to surround him.
Ask for the spirit of reconciliation.

Father, we ask you to watch over Barack Obama and his family during this time of transition. Grant him mercy and grace to walk humbly during this time. Surround him with wise people and give him the wisdom he needs to appoint cabinet members and advisers. Cause him to be a reconciler and not a divider. Protect him in all ways Father.. body, soul and spirit.

Healing Our Land

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2Chronicles 7:14)
