Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Forgiveness

Father,

Help us to forgive those who have wronged us, as You forgive us. Help us not to look for whether the act was excusable, but to forgive the inexcusable. Help us to put these things behind us and go on with You. Help us to be able to overcome every feeling of resentment every time it rears its ugly head. Help us to remember You have forgiven the inexcusable in us.

Amen

PRAYER NEVER GETS OLD

Charles Haddon Spurgeon penned this prayer so many years ago, and yet today, it resonates in our hearts and encourages and strengthen us.

"Now, I pray our Lord to grant that by the blessed Spirit
we may always be sensitive of the presence of God wherever we are.
His are the beauties of nature, His the sunshine
which is bringing on the harvest.
His the perfume which load the air from
multitudes of flowers.
His the insects which glitter around us like living gems,
and yet the Creator and Sustainer of all, these
are by far too little perceived."

~~Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892)

Choices to Live By (PEACE)

“I choose peace. I will live forgiven. I will forgive so that I may live.”  Max Lucado

Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)
     But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control.

Father it is by your gracious gift of forgiveness through Christ that we have peace with God, the peace of God and peace through God. And it is by the enablement of the Holy Spirit that we have the ability to live in peace with one another.

Father Your peace gives us the disposition to for forgive one another. Your peace gives us the stability to live in harmony with each other. Your peace gives us freedom to truly live. As the Scripture reminds us: “So then, we must pursue what promotes peace and what builds up one another.” Romans 14:19 (HCSB)

Father today we choose to live in peace in his name who is the Prince of Peace.

Healing for the Flu

I have been battling a nasty flu virus for three weeks now. I am getting better but am still in need of prayer. Please pray this prayer from "Prayer Plain and Simple" with me.

“Jesus, you did not make our bodies to be infected by a flu virus. You have given us an immune system to fight these invasions. When you walked the earth he healed many. Nearly every page of the Gospels shows you restoring someone’s body to health. We know that you are with us today eager and able to do the same. We ask for your power to bolster our strength to battle this sickness. Embolden our immune system now. We join you and curse this vile virus. For those now battling this sickness give them hope and strength. For those who have been exposed, give them resistance. Thank you for your healing. In Jesus…”

In awe ...

I'm never as in awe of the power of prayer as I am when we are in Nicaragua. There is such a precious sweetness present when the women I am privileged to teach and minister to get on their faces before God. They truly feel His Presence. They truly cry out in humility, expecting to hear from their LORD.

Prayer is such a powerful gift of God. He extends to us the amazing honor to be able to commune with Him always. We need to be mindful to never take it for granted. To never forsake the privilege that it holds. To never neglect the intimacy of relationship with our Savior.

Prayer is our lifeline to Christ.
Father, thank you for the overwhelming goodness you bestow upon us when we commune with you in prayer. Help us to seek your face. Help us to acknowledge  your sovereignty. Draw us close to your side and remind us always to make prayer a priority in our lives.

Prayer for Compassion

Father,

Help your people to have compassion on others, even on those who disagree with us. Help us to not  condone their wrong behavior, but reach out to help rather than pushing them away. Help us to remember we are ourselves sinners and saved only by God's grace. Help us show the love for all people that God has shown for us.

Prayer for Leaders

Father, as a new group of leaders begin their time in office, we pray that you would work in them and through them to accomplish your purposes on this earth. Let your church be unified around Christ and the gospel and remember that we are citizens of your kingdom first while being called to be good citizens of this earthly nation. Amen

PLANT MY ROOTS DEEP

 Here is my heart, Father.  Protect the living Word that resides within it.  You are my defense from the enemy, my shelter from the heat of battle.  Plant my roots so deep in You that we become inextricably entwined, so that no trouble, no heartache, no temptation, no persecution can uproot what You have sown within me.  I love You.  Amen.

Intercession

Help Them………

1 Timothy 2:1-3 (NLT)
     I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and pleases God our Savior……”

Father what a powerful directive you have given us to pray for all people, including those in authority. Help us to be faithful to this admonition in our prayers. If we truly desire to live in peace and live lives of virtue and value this will be one of our daily spiritual disciplines.

Therefore we pray for our new president Donald J. Trump, for his Cabinet, for our Senators, Congressmen, and Supreme Court.

We ask You to help them to understand they are your servants. Help them to humbly grasp their responsibility and accountability to You. Help them to have wisdom and discernment in the critical decisions they will need to make. Help them to commit to work together for the benefit of the people they represent. Help them to be mindful of Your divine providence and our reliance on You for future security and success. Help them to remember we are one Nation under God and as the Apostle Paul reminded us: “For in him (You) we live and move and have our being…..’ ” Acts 17:28 (NIV)

Father for your glory we pray these things in Jesus name. Amen

For Those Without Homes

Father,

I pray for the refugees, for the homeless, for those who have no settled dwelling upon this earth. I pray that they may turn to You in their need. I pray that You may comfort them in their distress. I pray that You may lead them to a safe dwelling place. I pray that You will provide their needs. I pray that You may take away the causes that lead to their condition. And I pray that Your people may do what they can to help them in their need.

Almighty God,
whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light of the world:
Grant that your people, illumined by your Word and Sacrament,
may shine with the radiance of Christ's glory,
that he may be known, worshipped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns,
one God, now and for ever.

GIVE ME A HEART LIKE JESUS

 O Heavenly Father, give me a heart like the heart of Jesus Christ, a heart more ready to minister than to be ministered unto, a heart moved by compassion towards the weak and the oppressed, a heart set upon the coming of Thy Kingdom in the world of men.

I would pray today, O God, for all those sorts and conditions of men to whom Jesus Christ was wont to give special thought and care;

For those lacking food or drink or raiment;
For the sick and all who are wasted by disease;
For the blind;
For the maimed and lame;
For prisoners;
For those oppressed by any injustice;
For the lost sheep of our human society;
For the worried and anxious;
For all those who are living faithful lives in obscurity;
For those who are fighting bravely in unpopular causes

In mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen

Choices to Live By (JOY)

Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)
     22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

     “I choose joy. I will invite my God to be the God of circumstance. I will refuse the temptation to be cynical the tool of the lazy thinker. I will refuse to see people as anything less than human beings, created by God. I will refuse to see any problem as anything less than an opportunity to see God.” Max Lucado

Father it is in your joy that we will live today with a positive perspective as we encounter the realities of life. May your joy overflow through us so that we will be a source of blessing, hope and peace to others in whatever struggles they face.

Thank you Father for the reminder of Max Lucado that we can choose joy. May we ever remember: “…… the joy of the LORD is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10 (ESV)

In the name of Jesus through whom the good news of great joy has come.

The Warrior’s Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Your warrior prepares for battle
Today I claim the victory over Satan by putting on the whole armor of God!

I put on the GIRDLE of TRUTH!
May I stand firm in the truth of YOUR WORD so that I will not be a victim of Satan’s lies.

I put on the BREASTPLATE of RIGHTEOUSNESS!
May it guard my heart from evil so I will remain pure and holy, protected under the blood of Jesus Christ.

I put on the SHOES of PEACE!
May I stand firm in the Good News of the Gospel so Your peace will shine through me and be a light to all I encounter.

I take the SHIELD of FAITH!
May I be ready for Satan’s fiery darts of doubt, denial, and deceit so I will not be vulnerable to spiritual defeat.

I put on the HELMET of SALVATION!
May I keep my mind focused on YOU so that Satan will not have a stronghold on my thoughts.

I take the SWORD of the SPIRIT!
May the two-edged sword of YOUR WORD be ready in my hands so I can expose the tempting words of Satan.

By faith your warrior has put on the WHOLE armor of God!

I am prepared to live this day in spiritual victory!

Amen

Lost in Limbo

Sometimes I feel lost in limbo. I have pancreatic cancer, and it has spread. The doctors cannot do any more than give me chemotherapy to slow the cancer growth. I do not discount the possibility God could  heal me, but I have no assurance He will do this. If God does no,t I am told my life may be measured in months, or years, and no one is really sure which or exactly how many. So I wait, and sometimes this seems the hardest thing to do.

Father,

I pray for all of us who wait and who do so, not knowing what will happen next. Fill us with Your power to be able to trust You. Be with us in every twist or turn in the way. Strengthen us to face whatever it is we need to face. And be with us every step of the way.

Epiphany

Father, as you revealed the promised King to the Magi from the east, so reveal Jesus to us anew. Let us see our Savior in our day-to-day so we may know where he is working and join with him. Let us see the kingdom come one earth as it is in heaven. Amen

Choices to Live By (LOVE)

“I choose love. No occasion justifies hatred;
no injustice warrants bitterness, I chose love.
Today I will love God and what God loves”
Max Lucado

Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)
     22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Dear Father, thank you for the freedom you give us in life and for the opportunity to make wise choices. Thank you especially for the enablement of the Holy Spirit whereby we can choose love.

Father, by your grace and through your Spirit, we choose love. Love for you, our family, our friends and all who we may encounter this day.

Father, for the honor of your Name and the glory of your grace, may your love through us each day this year, be the abiding evidence that we choose love.

In the name of Jesus who is love.

Father,

 We are going into a new political situation; guide and direct us in how to serve You in it. Help Your people to live for You, whatever the political situation around them may call for. Help us to trust in You, not the work of government. Help us to stand for Your truth, whatever the culture dictates.

Prayer for 2017

Father, make us more aware of your amazing love and grace to us. Help us live in the reality of being your beloved sons and daughters. Let us indeed love you with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind, and all our strength. Help us to love others, especially our brothers and sisters, as Jesus loved us, laying down our lives. We know that we will offend, so make us people who are quick to repent, quicker to forgive, and eager to reconcile.

Fill us with your Spirit and let others see Jesus in us. May we be people who bring grace and peace. Let us bring your Kingdom to bear and show the world a better way. Help us to be confident without arrogance, meek without weakness, and loving without enabling.

As we step into the unknown, may we do so knowing deep in our souls that our Abba has us in his hands and that he is working it all out for his glory and our good. Amen

YOUR WORD FOR 2017

 Heavenly Father, my prayer for me and all my blog friends, is that in 2017 YOUR WORD would have priority in our lives.  Father, it is our compass, our road map, our manual for life and practice.  Help us to start early each day, before the things of the world creep in and seek Your guidance for the day.

You have led and cared for us this past year, and we are so grateful.  You have taken us through low and scary places, and high and mountain top experiences and everything in between.

Your promise that you are with us and will keep us wherever we are will continue to be my hope and treasure in 2017.   I love You.  Amen.
