a prayer of surrender

Lord,
Receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my entire will.
Take all I have and call my own.

You have given all to me.
To you, Lord, I return it.
Everything is yours; do with it what you will.

Give me only your love and your grace, that is enough for me.
Amen.

help me to forgive

Dear God,

In these days of hurt feelings, I choose to forgive.

When people are unkind and hateful, I choose to forgive.

As I feel frustrated and weary, I choose to forgive.

Help me Lord to let go of the hurts and pain.

Cause me to be kind when I am exhausted by life.

Bless me that I might bless when I am offended.

I praise you dear Father. You are worthy.

Amen.

a prayer of submission

Lord,

Because you have made me, I owe you the whole of my love; because you have redeemed me, I owe you the whole of myself; because you have promised so much, I owe you my whole being.

Moreover, I owe you as much more love than myself as you are greater than I, for whom you gave yourself and to whom you promised yourself.

I pray you, Lord, make me taste by love what I taste by knowledge; let me know by love what I know by understanding.

I owe you more than my whole self, but I have no more, and by myself I cannot render the whole of it to you.

Draw me to you, Lord, in the fullness of your love. I am wholly yours by creation; make me all yours, too, in love.

Amen

a prayer for sacrifce

Jesus,

When you had nothing else to give

you gave yourself.

And as your friends shared and ate,

they were confused and complicit,

just like all of us.

May we give sacrificially;

because when we give like this,

we are like you,

who became like us.

Amen.

how Jesus gave

As they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take it, for this is my body.” (Mark 14:22)

Sacrificial Jesus,

When you had nothing else to give, you gave yourself.

And as your friends shared and ate, they were confused and complicit, just like all of us

May we give our lives and confusions, our hollowness and our hearts - because when we give like this, we are like you.

After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing? You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am. And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. (John 13:12-15)

Uncovered Jesus,

You washed the feet of your friends with your hands.

We do not know what to do with this kind of love or this kind of power.

May we model it more often: every day, every hour, every encounter, because this is how you chose to show love and power to your friends.

Amen

teach us to listen

Teach us to Listen Lord.

Help us to be interested in what our friends are saying.

Bless us to be people who care about what people say.

In these times of hurriedness, manifest patience in us.

In this world of apathy and indifference, we commit to kindness.

Let love be our banner and our guiding principle.

To you we give all honor and praise.

Amen.

a prayer of submission

Dear Lord,

Our hearts are filled with your presence.

We cannot help to pray.
We come renouncing our pride and seeking your humility.

Your love consumes us and your compassion fills us.

You have given us everything we need.

We ask you today for help to lead lives worthy of your calling.

When we struggle help us to remember that you are there.

When our lives seem easy open our eyes to see those who need us.

We submit ourselves to you and to your ways.

We ask for your kingdom to come and your will to be done in us.

To you be all glory and honor.

Amen.

Fill us so we may pour out

Creator God, source of all good things,

Author of all created beings, of all joy and happiness,
We are grateful you've made us to worship you.

Make us a people that provide...

comfort for all those who mourn,
restoration to those caught in sin,
hope to those in despair
joy to those in sorrow,
and love to those who have wandered far.

Blow away the ashes of unbelief by the breath of the Spirit,
and give us light, fire, and the warmth of love.

We need spiritual and physical comforts that are...

gentle,
peaceful,
mild,
refreshing;

comforts that slow our minds and bodies into surrender before You,
so that we may rest in Your presence.

Fill the garden of our souls with the wind of love,
that the scents of the Christian life may be wafted to others;
so they may come and gather what each needs.

Amen.

Dear God,

I need your wisdom, strength and grace to help me serve others.

Help me to know that every person deserves to be treated with respect.

Open my eyes to see the needs of those around me.

Give me a willing heart that I might intercede and help in any way I can.

To you belongs all glory and honor.

a sacrifical prayer

Dear Father in Heaven,

We come again with open hands and open hearts.

We confess our need of your presence and love.

We renounce the pride and ego that gets in your way.

We bow to you and submit our lives to you again.

Take our offerings. Take our lives. Take our hearts.

We offer all that we are to you and your purposes.

Strengthen us that we might take up our crosses and follow Jesus.

Make us new again as we submit to your Spirit.

Cause heaven to come to earth and to our hearts.

We give you praise and glory forever and ever.

Amen

fill me with mercy

Father of All Mercies,

Help me see those around me that are in need of my compassion. Cause me to listen to them and hear what they are saying. Bring me along side of them that I might speak a word of encouragement and healing.

Life can be so busy and personal demands can cause me to focus on myself. Teach me to look outward instead of inward that I might see and hear the cries of those who are suffering and lead painful lives. Amen.

the sacrificial root

Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,     nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. (Isaiah 53:1-4. NIV)

Lord Jesus,

Your manger was a veritable garden of grace, for there the Father planted you as the tender shoot of Isaiah's vision. Hallelujah, you are the root of life that has broken through the dry ground of our fallen world and fallen hearts.

We are in awe of the sacrificial tenderness of your incarnation. You created beauty, yet you became the one with "no beauty" for US. You took the evilness and ugliness of our sin so that we might become pure and beautiful in you. Though you have always been the delight of the Godhead, you b became the despised one, rejected on, for us all. What wondrous love is this, indeed?

You became a man of suffering, and though you did not remain a "tender shoot" you have kept all tenderness. In taking up your cross, you took our sin and carried out sorrow; bore the guilt and exhausted judgment - once and for al. Wonderful, merciful Savior.

Teach us to esteem and love you as you desire, Lord Jesus. May your tenderness grow in our hearts and be real.

Amen

to be a living sacrifice

I think that the entire life of Christ was a beautiful example of a living sacrifice. A life that cleansed the ones who heard his teaching and experienced his compassion. A life that calls us to deeper sacrifice and compassion. Would you pray with me?

Our desire Lord is to please you.
To sacrifice what we want for what you desire.

Help us Lord to recognize the ways that we can be like lambs.
Ones who bring healing and compassion to a broken world.

Teach us Father to be like Jesus in the ways that we live.
Ones with loving hearts and healing hands.

Fill us Holy Spirit that we might bear your light in utter darkness.
That the earth may be a bit brighter because You live. Amen

prayers of sacrifice

All that I am, all that I have
I lay them down before You, oh Lord
All my regrets, all my acclaims
The joy and the pain, I'm making them Yours

Things in the past, things yet unseen
Wishes and dreams that are yet to come true
All of my heart, all of my praise
My heart and my hands are lifted to You

What can we give that You have not given?
And what do we have that is not already Yours?
All we possess are these lives we're living
That's what we give to You, Lord

Lord, I offer my life to You
Everything I've been through, use it for Your glory
Lord I offer my days to You
Lifting my praise to You as a pleasing sacrifice
Lord I offer You my life

Amen

LIVING SACRIFICE

Romans 12:1 (NLT)  "And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you.  Let them be a living and holy sacrifice ~ the kind he will find acceptable.  This is truly the way to worship him."

O God, Your mercy is overwhelming.  Through sacrifice You have saved us from destruction.  How then shall we respond to this awesome gift?  We will give our very lives back to You in worship.  We offer ourselves to You, Lord, each on a living sacrifice for Your service.  Use us Lord, in any way You will.  I love You.  Amen.
