Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Reformation Day Prayer

Behold, Lord, an empty vessel that needs to be filled. My Lord, fill it.

I am weak in the faith; strengthen me.

I am cold in love; warm me and make me fervent, that my love may go out to my neighbor.

I do not have a strong and firm faith; at times I doubt and am unable to trust you altogether.

O Lord, help me. Strengthen my faith and trust in you.

In you I have sealed the treasure of all I have.

I am poor; you are rich and came to be merciful to the poor.

I am a sinner; you are upright.

With me, there is an abundance of sin; in you is the fullness of righteousness.

Therefore I will will remain with you, of whom I can receive, but to whom I may not give.

Amen

Almighty and everlasting God,
Increase in us the gifts of faith, hope, and charity;
and, that we may obtain what you promise, make us love what you command;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Nehemiah tells us "The Joy of the Lord is our Strength..."

Dear Lord, there are many things in life we cannot choose.  Our circumstances, the weather, health issues, family members, but we do have the choice of how we handle the things we have no control over.  You have told us Your grace is sufficient for whatever comes out way.   Lord let the Joy of knowing you be my strength, and help me to handle the difficult things in life that I have no control over, with grace and joy.  Your JOY.   I love you.  Amen

DANCING

Psalm 30:11 (NLT)
   “You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing”.

Father, happy feet are a wonderful expression of the exuberance You give us in life. It is hope jumping for joy. It is laughter filling the air. It is love bubbling over with barely restrained enthusiasm. There is a time to dance and probably more often that we think. In fact if we danced more we would probably be less depressed.

So today I will dance. Dance with the joy of a forgiven heart. Dance with the appreciation of a wonderful family and faithful friends. Dance with the assurance that when the music ends heaven waits, where there will still be more dancing. Yes, dance, dance, dance for all the grace and mercy You shower on us every day. There will be times of mourning, but not today. Today I will dance!

cry out to Jesus first

In times of need, we must turn to our Lord first and not as a last resort. Our God is the God of healing and restoration. He is the One who created all things and He is the One who can restore all things! So why do we fall on our faces before Him as a last resort? He should be the first One we cry out to in our time of need. Not the One we turn to only  in our time of desperation. Cry out to Jesus first. He holds the healing in His hands and is ready to bestow this upon us according to His will.

"Hear me when I call, O God of
my righteousness; thous hast enlarged
me when I was in distress; have
mercy upon me, and hear my prayer"

Autumn Prayer

Father, as we look at the beauty of the trees as their leaves die, knowing that new life is to come in the spring, help us to remember that out of death comes resurrection and that you have called us to come and die so that we might truly live. Amen.

A WORLD OF WOE

Isaiah 5:20-21 "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.  Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight."

Oh Lord, the world we live in is so upside down.  They call evil good and good evil just like the people of Isaiah's time.  They exchange light for darkness and bitter for sweet.  Such a selfish and self centered world and we can easily get sucked in to this thinking too.  Oh Lord, I don't want to be in that crowd.  Lord this world is not my home.  I'm just passing through as the song says, my treasures are laid up in Heaven, and I long to be there with You.  But in the meantime, You have told us in your Word, to occupy until you come, and to watch and pray.  That is our prayer.  I love You.  Amen

FIXED

Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)
   You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!

Father your peace is not affected by the circumstances of life. Nothing can assail the soul that is at rest in your perfect peace. Your Word tells us: Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)
So Father your perfect, complete and transforming peace will calm our souls and quiet our hearts in and during the onslaughts of life’s traumas. But, I must admit Father that the challenge for me is not trusting you but staying focused, fixed and firm in keeping my eyes on you. There are so many distractions in life with the dysfunction of human government, an unstable economy, civil and world strife, and all the personal issues that vie for attention every day.

But Father by your strength I am resolved to be firmly fixed on you. The words of the song say it so well for me:

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace
.

kneel before Him

"A man with leprosy came and knelt
before Him and said. "Lord, if you
are willing, you can make me clean"
(Matthew 8:2)

I love the faith that the leper exhibited in this passage of scripture. He came with a need. He came with a deep need for healing. But the first thing he did when he approached the Lord was to kneel. And to worship.

We could learn a huge lesson from this leper. When we have a need for healing, whether it be spiritual or physical, we must first kneel at the feet of Jesus and worship Him. And then after we have given Him the worship that is due Him, then may we cry out to Him for our healing.

Faith. It's about trust and believing. But first of all, it's about worship.

Walk in Freedom

Father, help us to walk in the freedom for which you have set us free. May your Spirit guide us and remind us whose children we are. Fill us with your love and grace and let that flow out of us onto all those around us. Amen.

ETERNITY IN MY HEART

"I thank Thee, O Lord, that Thou hast so set eternity within my heart that no earthly thing can ever satisfy me wholly.  I thank Thee that every present joy is so mixed with sadness and unrest as to lead my mind upwards to the contemplations of a more perfect blessedness.  And above all I thank Thee for the sure hope and promise of an endless life which Thou hast given me in the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ my Lord.  Amen."

It's not our normal way of praying, but I find these "Old" prayers of a saintly man, John Baillie touch my deepest soul and minister to my spirit.  I hope this prayer will do the same for you.

YET

Habakkuk 3:17-19 (NLT)
   17 Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, 18 yet I will rejoice in the LORD! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! 19 The Sovereign LORD is my strength!

Job understood what a later prophet would express with astonishing hope viewed through a little word yet. Job had suffered catastrophic loss. Totally broken he experienced grief at such a depth that few could fathom its darkness. And yet in those weeks and months of agonizing doubt and fear his faith in the living God having been severely tested was not destroyed. Father his words are such a comfort and challenge.
Job 1:20-21 (NLT)
20 Job stood up and tore his robe in grief. Then he shaved his head and fell to the ground to worship.
21 He said, “I came naked from my mother’s womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The LORD gave me what I had, and the LORD has taken it away. Praise the name of the LORD!”

Father, life’s greatest disasters do not diminish your greatness, demean your glory or negate your faithful love.

Such circumstances give us the opportunity to show the real value of life, relationship with you. There is nothing greater in life than knowing and trusting you. Thank you Father that there is a yet that makes such a difference in our lives.

Momma

Thank you, dear Lord, for working in my heart, for softening the hardened lump it very often is. Thank you for my Mom who gave so very much of herself through the years and now has just a short time to wait for her translation. Help me to be clothed in You spirit as I minister to her. May I love her deeply and thoroughly.

Our Heavenly Father, let your name be proclaimed in us.
Let your Kingdom come and your will be done in and through us as it is in heaven.
We trust you to give us exactly what we need throughout each day.
Forgive our sins, and help us to forgive others as we have been forgiven.
Don't let us give in to the temptations of life, but deliver us from evil.
The kingdom is yours. The power is yours. The glory is yours. Forever and ever.

IN YOUR LIKENESS

Deuteronomy 4:19 "And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, moon and stars ~~ all the heavenly array ~~do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshiping things the Lord your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven."

Dear God, Your creation is breathtaking.  The endless procession of suns, moons and planets proclaim that You are the Master Designer.  And all nature, seas and mountains, fields and forests ~~attest to Your supreme artistry.  But with equal clarity, we also discover Your likeness is what seems an unlikely place.  In the faces of men, women and children.  How incredible that You have made humankind in Your image.  How remarkable that to love one another is to worship You.  Thank you Father, for choosing us, and making us in your image.  We love you.  Amen.

PATHS

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)
   5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Father we have questions about the Paths of life. Which path should we take?  Which is the best way, the sure way, the way that will safely take us to our journeys end?  Father there are many such decisions in life we are unprepared to make. Sometimes there is not enough information nor enough council to wisely choose. Father we need your help, your counsel and your wisdom to choose the right path. Then I recall your promise: ….“I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” Psalm 32:8 (NLT)
Father your promise and presence is such a comfort and gives great confidence in choosing the path we should follow. So I will continue to seek your will, your way, and your wisdom for it will always lead me to the path of your choice and the assurance of your voice.

Isaiah 30:21 (NLT)
   Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.

God's POWER in our lives

"Be exalted, O LORD, in your
strength! We will sing and
praise your power."
(Psalm 21:13)

~~~~~
God's POWER is greater than any other power. If we desire to truly tap into that power in our lives, we must begin to know Him deeper and higher and wider than anything else that exists. We must begin to build effective prayer lives. Effective praise lives. We must begin to acknowledge the greatness of His Power and begin applying it to our personal lives.
All POWER belongs to Him. And all POWER comes from Him.
