Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

a prayer to yield my life and change

Loving God,

I want to yield up my life into Your hands for my life seems to be falling apart at the seams and I am desperate. Oh Lord, I don’t know which way to turn nor do I know what to do. I so need your strong hand in my life.
I am coming to You confessing my need for You in my life, and pray that You will forgive me for my pride in trying to be the god of my own existence. Lord, I have made myself the center of my life and not You. I pray You would help me to change. Please transform me and bring good from my trials.

Lord, I don’t really know how to “let go”. I don’t really know how to do to give You greater influence in my life, but I am coming to You in humility to confess my need of You in my life. Lord, I pray that Your love, grace and mercy would lead, guide me and help me to let go of my past.

Lord, I also ask that You would teach me how to submit my life to You. Show me how to abide in You day by day, and instruct me how to live in spirit and truth. Help me Lord, to submit my life to You in every way, and to become the person You would have me be.
Thank You Lord, that You have not given up on me. I ask You to teach me Your way from this day forward. In Jesus' name I pray.

a prayer of surrender

Dear Lord,

Help me - I feel like such a failure.
I surrender - use me to bless and love those around me.

Guide me - cause my thoughts and actions to honor you.

Transform me - create in me a heart of service.

I seek your will and I seek your character - that I might be a servant.

Thank you for loving me and helping me to be like you.

To you belongs all honor and praise.

A prayer when having a mid-life crisis

A prayer when having a mid-life crisis

Lord, I feel such a sense of failure. As I look back over the years, I wonder where they have all gone, as time has slipped by so quickly.

Nothing seems to mean much any more. I have no sense of achievement. I have lost all sense of adventure in life. The children have flown the nest. I feel I’m just existing, going through the motions of life, not really living any more.

I see how we tried to bring up our children. I know I can get too easily caught up in what went wrong.

Help me not to focus so much on the past, what I have lost, but to remember you are Lord of all, of my life, of the future, of everything.

Lord, I don’t know really where I’m going! Please help me to refocus on my destination then I’ll know where my life is going.

Help me to feel the touch of your love, find new direction, a more focused hope for my journey, a fresh sense of adventure, I pray.

Psalm 33:20–22 (ESV)
20 Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. 21 For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. 22 Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you.

Walk like Jesus

LORD, give us hearts to desire to be HOLY. Give us spirits that long to be like you. May we truly live our lives following the example in Your WORD.

You have called us to be HOLY as You are HOLY. Empower us. Enable us. Fill us with a true desire to walk as You walked…

“the one who says that he remains in Him ought, himself also, to walk just as He walked.” (1 John 2:6)

A Prayer for our Idols

Lord and Savior,

We are struggling to make You just that - Savior AND Lord. It's one thing to know we need saving, it's another to fully submit to anything - even You - as the true Lord of our lives. As sin still lives in us, we are tempted to serve sin instead of You. We are tempted by what looks and feels good, rather than by the One who IS good.

But Lord - we are no longer owned by sin, because we are no longer under the law, but under grace through Christ.  So set our minds in Christ. Help s place our hope in Your hands. Give us contentment in all places of our hearts.

Show us that when we give our heart to something other than You, we aren't trusting You the way we can. We’re believing there’s something You can’t provide. We know that isn't true - we know You can and do provide - but we fail to live in that truth.

Good Father, give us strength to cast down our idols in favor of You who offers us peace, hope, joy and lasting contentment that nothing in this world will never provide.

“Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.” (1 Peter 1:13)

a prayer for loving difficult people

Dear God,

Forgive me for labeling people as enemies and calling them difficult.

Help me to offer understanding when I want to win an argument.

Bless me that I might lay down my pride and my hurt feelings.

When I am tempted to judge help me to genuinely love.

Teach me to have thick skin that I may not be easily offended.

In all my ways help me to see others the way you see them.

That I may be a true citizen of heaven.

A prayer of adoration

Lord, I adore You

Not to us, O Lord, not to us,
But to Your name give glory,
Because of Your lovingkindness and truth. (Psalm 115:1)

It is good to give thanks to the Lord
And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High,
To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning
And Your faithfulness at night. (Psalm 92:1–2)

Great and marvelous are Your works,
  Lord God Almighty!
Righteous and true are Your ways,
  King of the nations!
Who will not fear You, O Lord,
  And glorify Your name?
  For You alone are holy.
All nations will come and worship before You,
For Your righteous acts have been revealed. (Revelation 15:3–4)

  O sing to the Lord a new song;
Sing to the Lord, all the earth.
  Sing to the Lord, bless His name;
Proclaim the good news of His salvation day after day.
Declare His glory among the nations,
His marvelous works among all people.
  Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
He is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the nations are idols,
But the Lord made the heavens.
  Splendor and majesty are before Him;
Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary. (Psalm 96:1–6)

a prayer to rest in love

God of Goodness,

I come into your presence so aware of my human frailty and yet overwhelmed by your love for me.

I thank you that there is no human experience that I might walk through where your love cannot reach me.

If I climb the highest mountain you are there and yet if I find myself in the darkest valley of my life, you are there.

Teach me today to love you more.

Help me to rest in that love that asks nothing more than the simple trusting heart of a child.

Create Space in Your Innermost Self

Create Space in Your Innermost Self

Today I imagined my inner self as a place crowded with pins and needles. How could I receive anyone in my prayer when there is no place for them to be free and relaxed? When I am still so full of preoccupations, jealousies, angry feelings, anyone who enters will get hurt. I had a very vivid realization that I must create some free space in my innermost self so that I may indeed invite others to enter and be healed. To pray for others means to offer others a hospitable place where I can really listen to their needs and pains. Compassion, therefore, calls for a self-scrutiny that can lead to inner gentleness.

Taken from "You are the Beloved"

by Henri J.M. Nouwen

Lord, heal me so that I might find peace.

Lord calm my inner turmoil that I might experience and enjoy Your Presence and Hospitality.

Lord, heal me so that I might be a source of healing to others.

Lord, grant me serenity within my soul that I may be able to listen to the needs of others and pray for them.
In Jesus' Name, Amen

Philippians 4:6–8 (ESV)

6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Power and Promise

LORD, today, give us hearts to be receptive to the POWER and PROMISE found in Your WORD.

Enable us to bring our deep, soul weariness to you and then receive the beautiful JOY that only you can bestow upon us…

Open our eyes to the TRUTH of who you are!
We are so thankful for Your hand of mercy and grace upon our souls.

May we see Your POWER working and be amazed at what is accomplished in Your Name.

a prayer against my selfishness

Lord, I often pray "give me eyes to see" but if I'm being honest, I'm not in the mood.

I often pray, "give me a heart like Yours" but if I'm honest, that's sounds like a lot of work.

I pray, "show me where You want me to bless others" but if I'm honest, I don't really intend to bless others.

Sometimes I pray, "teach me to see other like You see them" but if I'm being honest, I'm not ready for that.

Occassionally I pray, Lord, "I want to be like You" but hoenstly, the thought makes me tired.

So today Lord I pray for my selfishness.

I pray for

the way my heart is too consumed with other things,

the way my eyes only choose to see what they want,

for how my body needs energy to desire deeper connection with You.

a prayer in times of darkness

Dear God,

Things seem dark and I feel all alone.

I am lonely and afraid.

Help me to know that you are here with me.

Open my heart that I might sense your presence.

Return me to the simple path of love and joy.

Teach me to be happy in small things.

And to not worry about things outside of my control.

Lead my friends in helpful ways.

Bless me that I may be a blessing.

Cause me to be a testimony of your love.

I love you Lord.

a prayer to overcome anger

Dear Lord,

I do not know why I am so angry. But you do.

I seem so powerless to deal with this strong emotion.

Free me from these chains that seem to bind me.

Forgive me for the times I have given into anger.

Help me to have self control and power over anger.

I lay down all of the anger and rage. I release it all.

Set a guard over my mouth and bless me with patience.

Renew me and refresh me that I may be at peace.

I give you all praise and honor.

You are worthy.

Prayer is the only entryway into genuine self-knowledge

"Prayer is the only entryway into genuine self-knowledge. It is also the main way we experience deep change - the reordering of our loves. Prayer is how God gives us so many of the unimaginable things He has for us. Indeed, prayer makes it safe for God to give us many of the things we most desire. It is the way we know God, the way we finally treat God as God. Prayer is simply the key to everything we need to do and be in life. We must learn to pray. We have to."

Knowing You, Jesus

by Graham Kendrick

All I once held dear, built my life upon

All this world reveres, and wars to own

All I once thought gain I have counted loss

Spent and worthless now, compared to this

    Knowing You, Jesus

    Knowing You

    There is no greater thing

You're my all, You're the best

    You're my joy, my righteousness

    And I love You, Lord

Now my heart's desire is to know You more

To be found in You and known as Yours

To possess by faith what I could not earn

All-surpassing gift of righteousness

Oh, to know the power of Your risen life

And to know You in Your sufferings

To become like You in Your death, my Lord

So with You to live and never die

Empower us to live into your kindness today.

Cultivate in us a heart that looks like your heart.

Remind us that what we do reflects who we are.

Help us to love as you love and forgive all who hurt us.

Teach us to open our arms to those who are not like us.

May all those who are kind be blessed and prosper.

To you belong all love, honor and worship.

a prayer to love
