Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

don't neglect Him

Sometimes, amid the demands of our days and the daily frustrations that can beset us, we neglect to slow down and have some much needed alone time with God. We can easily forget that He is the one who is in control and begin to mistakenly rely on our own resources for our strength. The truth is that God is the only one who we can cry out to that can do anything about our cries. He is the one that we can turn to for guidance. For comfort. For direction. When we get too busy for God, we are just too busy.

Do you have a need? Ask the Father to sustain you. Do you have troubles? The Lord can take your worries and turn them into blessings. If you need strength and wisdom, call out to the Savior and He is the one who can lift you up. There is nothing too big or too small to bring in prayer to our Father. He cares about all the details of our lives and He desires to be our everything. Take time every day to spend intimate time with the Lord.  It is the most important thing you can do and it is the best way to start your day. He is worthy of all of our time.

You alone, Lord know all that they do.

No one sees the pain in their heart,

When to fight for freedom, their families they part.

Please comfort the hearts of loved ones so dear,

Bring them home safely, keep all from fear.

May God have mercy upon America and bless her. God bless our brave troops

Remembering those Who Serve

Thought that I would repost a Memorial Day prayer from this site..

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, we think of how they have followed in the footsteps of your son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Please hold our service men and women in your strong arms. Cover them with your sheltering grace and presence as they stand in the gap for our protection.

We also remember the families of our troops, and ask for your unique blessings to fill their homes and your peace, provision and strength to fill their lives.

May the members of our armed forces be filled with courage to face each day and may they trust in the Lord's mighty power to accomplish each task. Let our military brothers and sisters feel our love and support.

In the name of Jesus.

Amen

Father, we pray for those who are without work, for the newly unemployed and for those who have been jobless for months or years. We pray for your provision during their time of looking for work, and for a job that will fit their skills and interests. Amen

THE MERCY OF GOD

Holy Father, Thy wisdom excites our admiration, Thy power fills us with fear, Thy omnipresence turns every spot of earth into holy ground; but how shall we thank Thee enough for Thy mercy which comes down to the lowest part of our need to give beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and for the spirit of heaviness a garment of praise?  We bless and magnify Thy mercy, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen  (A.W. Tozer ~The Knowledge of the Holy)

"When all Thy mercies, O my God,
My rising soul surveys,
Transported with the view, I'm lost
In wonder, love, and praise."
~Joseph Addison

A Wedding Prayer

A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart. -Ecclesiastes 4:12

An old and dear friend is getting married today. I will be there to rejoice with him. With him and the many others who marry at this time of year in mind, I offer this prayer from the Book of Common Prayer.

Most gracious God, we give you thanks for your tender love in sending Jesus Christ to come among us, to be born of a human mother, and to make the way of the cross to be the way of life.

We thank you, also, for consecrating the union of man and woman in his Name.

By the power of your Holy Spirit, pour out the abundance of your blessing upon this man and this woman.

Defend them from every enemy.

Lead them into all peace.

Let their love for each other be a seal upon their hearts, a mantle about their shoulders, and a crown upon their foreheads.

Bless them in their work and in their companionship; in their sleeping and in their waking; in their joys and in their sorrows; in their life and in their death.

Finally, in your mercy, bring them to that table where your saints feast for ever in your heavenly home; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

I am so thankful that we serve a God who cares about us.
When we lift our voices toward the heavens and cry out to Him,
He hears us. He listens to our petition. He responds to us. Our God
is a God of compassion and of love.

As we pour out to our Lord, may we never forget that He
is a merciful and gracious God. Our concerns are important
to Him and He truly wants what is best for us according
to His purpose for our life. We are a blessed people.

This prayer is taken from Awed to Heaven, Rooted in Earth: The Prayers of Walter Brueggemann.

"YOU TURN TABLES
Our mothers and fathers have long spoken of you.
And we have their spokenness in our hands, in these old texts.
We propose now to study you,
  to weigh and test,
  to examine and assess,
to make you our "object" and so to get a grade.
In your strangeness, you are studied only temporarily
      object only penultimately,
weighed and tested only at the outset.
But then - as always -
  You turn tables,
  You become subject who addresses,
    sovereign who commands,
    mother who loves,
    warrior who defends,
And we find ourselves turned in our study to praise and adoration.
So we ask for freedom to love you with our minds,
that we may know a little as we are known,
and in knowing may love and adore,
and in loving and adoring, may obey...
        to your praise,
        and our joy, Amen."

This dear woman had more to do with the woman I became than any other person in in life.  My Mother.  I want to honor her and share a Mother's Day Prayer for this Special Day.

Dear Lord, so many mother's to honor on this special day.  So I pray your blessing and heath on all the mother's that will read this, and those that won't.  But today, I especially want to thank you for my dear mother who nurtured me, made sure I was in Sunday School, taught me about Jesus, and let me help her in the kitchen from the time I was a little girl, thus my love for homemaking and cooking and why I've been told I have a nurturing heart.  Thank you mom, for everything you were to me.  I miss you every day and it's been over 20 years you took up residence in heaven.
Amen

And so...

And so Lord, I've been having a really tough time with my attitude. No matter how much I try to get it properly adjusted, I can't seem to do it on my own. I need You. I need Your love flowing through me, Your strength, and Your power. I need Your wisdom to deal with the stresses and outside pressures that squeeze me and threaten to suck every ounce of strength and determination I have. My strength and wisdom are limited and faulty, but Yours is eternal and perfect. I pray that You would make me hungry for Your word and for prayer. These are the things that I need in order to overcome the battles I face.

Thank you, Lord, for being there always, for loving me unconditionally, and for forgiving me. Please help me do the same for others.
Amen

Father, fill us with yourself, that we may show you to others. Give us peace, that we may be peacemakers. Show us grace, that we may be gracious. Love us, that we may love you and love those around us. Amen

For those who mourn ...

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. -Matthew 5:4

I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever. -John 14:16

These promises from Jesus are so meaningful to me as my family mourns the death of my brother Bill.

Consider how the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia defines Comforter:
kum'-fer-ter: This is translation of the word patakletos, in the Johannine writings. In the Gospel it occurs in John 14:16, 26; John 15:26; John 16:7, and refers to the Holy Spirit. The word means literally, "called to one's side" for help. The translation "Comforter" covers only a small part of the meaning as shown in the context. The word "Helper" would be a more adequate translation.
Such is the help that people who mourn need. My prayer for my family, and for all who mourn today, is that the Holy Spirit would call people to walk along side of us in our grief. That hurting people would know that God loves them because of the many ways that we show them that we care.

Amen

Thank you sweet Lord, that in YOU there is hope. May your precious Name bring hope to all who are sick, hurting, lonely or down trodden. May your sweetness surround them today like a warm embrace. Make your presence known to all who are seeking a touch from the Master. You are the healer of all and with you there is nothing that is impossible. We give you all praise and all glory.

In the mighty name of Jesus,

Amen

Today's prayer is a long one. But I find I can't shake these words, the power of the sentiment, the positive cry towards God. Real and raw. Like the psalms. The name of the prayer is "Gentle My Desperation" and is taken from "Guerrillas of Grace: Prayers for the Battle" by Ted Loder.

"Come, Lord Jesus,
touch me
  with love, life-giving as light,
to quiet my anger a little
  and gentle my desperation,
to soften my fears some
and soothe the knots of my cynicism,
to wipe away the tears from my eyes
and ease the pains in my body and soul,
to reconcile me to myself
and then to the people around me,
    and then nation to nation,
that none shall learn war any more,
but turn to feed the hungry, house the homeless
and care compassionately for the least of our brothers and sisters.
Reshape me in your wholeness
to be a healing person, Lord.

Come, Lord Jesus,
expand me
by your power, life-generating as the sea,
to accept
  and use my power,
to do something I believe in
and be something more of who I mean to be
    and can be,
to inspire me to dream and move,
  sweat and sing,
    fail and laugh,
      cuss and create,
to link my passion with courage,
  my hope with discipline,
    my love with persistence,
to enable me to learn from difficulties,
  grow in adversities,
    gain wisdom from defeats,
      perspective from disappointments,
        gracefulness from crises,
and find joy in simply living it all fully.
Release me through your power
to be a powerful person, Lord.

Come, Lord Jesus,
startle me
with your presence, life-sustaining as air,
to open my heart
  to praise you,
to open my mind
  to attend you,
to open my spirit
  to worship you,
to open me
  to live my life
as authentically and boldly as you lived yours.

Come, Lord Jesus,
be with me
  in my longing;
come, stay with me
  in my needing;
come, go with me
  in my doing;
come, struggle with me
  in my searching;
come, rejoice with me
  in my loving."

Amen
