Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Your Messenger of Hope and Healing

Proverbs 15:4  "The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit."

Gracious Lord, make me Your messenger of hope and healing.  Fill my mouth with words of life.  Give me "an instructed tongue to know the word that sustains the weary."  Open my ears to listen to those who mourn, to those who need hope.  Gentle Savior, may the comforter bring comfort through me to the broken hearted.  Amen.   (Isa.50:4)

God Knows

Exodus 2:23-25 (ESV)
23 During those many days the king of Egypt died, and the people of Israel groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help. Their cry for rescue from slavery came up to God. 24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. 25 God saw the people of Israel—and God knew.

Father as I think about my life and the various experiences encountered on a daily basis, I am so glad that you hear our prayers, remember your promises, see in depth our needs and fully know our concerns.

Thank you for such personal and compassionate care. In the Name of your beloved Son and our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

A Prayer for the Nation

Almighty God, Who has given us this good land for our heritage; We humbly beseech Thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Thy favor and glad to do Thy will. Bless our land with honorable ministry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion, from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people, the multitude brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endow with Thy spirit of wisdom those whom in Thy name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that through obedience to Thy law, we may show forth Thy praise among the nations of the earth. In time of prosperity fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in Thee to fail; all of which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Trust

"Scientists readily admit there is much about the cosmos they do not understand. I do wish more theologians were comfortable admitting there’s much about God they don’t understand. As I’ve gotten older, I have let go of the illusion that I do, or we can, know everything about God. Interestingly, this is one of the reasons I cling to him more now than ever, because I used to have a false sense of control and understanding but now it has been replaced by trust. I don’t fully understand him, but I trust him." ~Donald Miller
Father, we often don't understand your ways, but we know you are in control and you love us. Help us to trust you no matter what. Amen

Ezekiel 34:11 "For thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I, even I will both search my sheep, and seek them out."

Father, thank You for seeking me out and desiring a relationship with me.  Help me to know you better every day.  I love you, and want to follow you with all my heart.  Amen.

Grace for Today

Hebrews 4:16 (NIV)
Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Our Father and our God, what a wonderful way to begin Saturday.  To begin at the throne of grace where your mercy enables us to come with boldness and assurance. We know that you hear our prayers and are truly concerned about our needs.

Today, Father I need wisdom to understand your will. I need strength to live according to your Word.  I need help to focus on You while taking care of personal responsibilities. In the midst of this day’s activities I need to be mindful of your grace that is always sufficient for every situation.

I pray for my family and friends who also need your grace today.  May it be a good day for them, filled with the joy of your presence, the healing of your power and the provision of your resources.

Father, you are so good to us and we humbly thank you for such amazing grace.  We ask this In the Name of your beloved Son and our Savior, Jesus.

Amen.

For Strength and Wisdom

Dear Lord,
Today I ask for the strength and wisdom that only You can give. I ask for strength to walk away from situations I must leave in Your hands and wisdom to know when You are calling me back. Give me eyes to see what You have before me and the sense to know how to use that information. And above all, Lord, thank you that no matter what happens You love me and hold me in the palm of Your hand.
Amen

Confession

Prayer is more than just confession of our sins. Prayer is about expressing to Christ just what He is in our lives! It is about confession of who He is. Confession of His majesty and His power. Confession of His truth.

Confession is simply agreeing with God or telling the truth in a matter.

When we pray, we are not just confessing our shortcomings, but we are confessing His mercy and grace as we seek forgiveness of those shortcomings.

When we confess His faithfulness, it reminds us that He is in control and that He keeps His promises.

When we confess His love, it empowers us to live lives that show that love to others.

When we confess our sins, it shows that we acknowledge our depravity without Him and acknowledges the power He has to forgive.

Prayer is more than just confession. It is all about Jesus!

God, keep me there.

If I am not in your Truth,
God, put me there.

For the Less Fortunate

Father, thank you for your provision of shelter, food and clothing. We pray for those that are going without those things during this winter. Bring folks along side them who can help them and provide for them. Let your church rise up and show your love to the least of these. Amen

Dr. Charles Stanley just celebrated his 80th Birthday.  Year's of faithful ministry and preaching God's Word.

In the margin of my Worship Bible I found a prayer quoted from him and thought it was a good prayer to begin our new year and our daily walk with the Lord.

"Thank you Father, that you still speak to me today through your Word, my circumstances, and other people.  I need to hear your voice.  Teach me to be quiet and alert.  I will wait on you and follow your counsel."  (Charles Stanley 1932-)

I sometimes think we forget that God speaks not only through his Word, but I need to see him speaking to my in my circumstances, and especially be willing to hear the word of other people who have my best interests at heart.

The Gift of Today

Psalm 118:24 (ESV)
This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Prayer is always the best way to begin the day at sunrise or conclude it at sunset. It is a perfect bracket to indicate the value of that day as a gift of God and our desire and determination to live it for His glory. So, I offer this prayer for Saturday January 5th.

Father, we thank You for the gift of this day. May its seconds, minutes and hours be filled with purposeful living and meaningful relationships. May your glory be our goal, your will  our pleasure and your love the expression of our lives.

Others we encounter may be going rough times in their lives. Help us to be helpful to them. May we be enabled to lift their burden, ease their pain, comfort their heart and give them a since of hope that only comes from You.

Father, at the end of this day, may we sleep in the peaceful rest of a satisfied life looking forward to sunrise tomorrow and the gift of another day.

We thank you for this Father in the Name of Your beloved Son and our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen!

Prayer is the key

Prayer is the key to intimacy with Christ. It is vital in the life of a Christian because that is where our relationship with our Lord get its wings so to speak. When we enter into communion with God through our prayer lives, we open up our hearts and our spirits to receive from Him. Prayer is that communion. We pour out to a mighty God and in turn He can pour back in to our souls and speak to the depths of our being. Prayer equips us. Prayer empowers us. Prayer keeps us focused and it enables us to grow closer to our precious Lord.

"..the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much"
