As we wait for the Last Day

Zephaniah 3:8
"Therefore wait for Me," declares the LORD,
"For the day when I rise up as a witness
Indeed, My decision is to gather nations,
To assemble kingdoms,
To pour out on them My indignation,
All My burning anger;
For all the earth will be devoured
By the fire of My zeal."

O God as we wait for the Last Day, Your justice still prevails. You are the LORD of the universe. You are the LORD of all. Yet you are a God of compassion. The nations of the earth say there is no God. The kings of the world are far away from you. O gracious and loving God who is just and righteous. We thank you that your grace still sustains us and your mercy is new every morning. If it were not, we would have perished. Be merciful on us, O Merciful Father.

Love and Truth

Father,

Help Your people in their political endeavors to reflect Your love and truth. Help us to stand for the principles You would have us stand for. But may we do it in a way that reflects Your love. May we not legitimately be perceived as those who hate. But may we not jettison our convictions to accomplish this. May we reach out in love to those who need Your grace. Help us to remember that we are sinners saved by grace. Let us not condone sin, but let us act to seek and save that which was lost.

Independence Day Prayer

Father, thank you for your blessings on our land, for the freedom you have given us and for the way you have used this nation to bless others. Please give wisdom to those in every level of government. Show us how to live in this land as citizens and ambassadors of your Kingdom. Amen

FREEDOM

Father as we celebrate our freedom this week-end help us to remember that true freedom always has limits. And that when we violate those limits it ultimately results in the loss of freedom. You have instructed us to: “Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. 1 Peter 2:16 (ESV)


Also Father may we be mindful that this precious freedom was created by you and for the full benefit of the human race. Freedom has no ethnicity, nationality or human origin. You said to Adam: “…..You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden—17 except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.” Genesis 2:1r-17 (NLT) 


So Father we gratefully rejoice in the freedom You graciously gave us and ask You to help us to protect and preserve it for generations to come. We ask this in the name of Him who has freed us.

Prayer for a Toxic Boss

Give the boss your justice, O God.
May she judge her team with righteousness,
And those with a steep learning curve with hope.
Let the mountains bear prosperity as she credits workers for their work.
May he listen to the wisdom of the poor and experienced on his team
and defend their cause.
May righteousness and honesty flourish under him,
So the team has success and all they touch may progress.
Turn his ignorant bloviating
To intelligent questions.
Set her mind on reaching out with wisdom and skill to others
Rather than hunkering in protective maneuvers.
Free his tongue to utter truth
Rather than reacting with clichés that obscure ignorance.
Separate her ego from the work
So she can direct her team and fix her talents on our larger goals
In her days may the righteous flourish and peace abound, till the moon be no more!

Yet...


The Prayer of Habakkuk is powerful.  It speaks of being triumphant no matter the circumstances. No matter the trials you are facing. Even if there is no food. No water.  No evident hope.  His words speak of where our hearts and minds must abide.

"Yet....I will triumph in Yahweh. I will rejoice
 in the God of my salvation!
Yahweh my LORD is my strength;
He makes my feet like those of a deer
and enables me to walk 
on mountain heights."
(Habakkuk 3:18,19) HCSB

Truly, our strength comes from our God. He is mighty and He is powerful and He is where our hope is found. Trust in Him. Lean on Him. Triumph in His Strength and rejoice in His sufficient mercy and grace in our lives! When all else seems lost, look up!

Unearthing the Past

Satan is an archeologist. He likes to dig up things in our past and flaunt them in our face. Not only our past sins, but even our past failures, dubious decisions, and missed opportunities.

Father,

Help us to put the past behind us. If there are things we need to repent of or to make right, help us to do that. If there are different decisions or changes of direction or honest reevaluations of our abilities we need to make while going forward, help us to see that. But help us take the rest of the past and commit it to You and to Your grace. Help us not to be held back by our past from doing what You want us to do today. Give us the courage to leave the past behind and to embrace the future with confidence not in ourselves, but in You.

FRIEND OF JESUS


O Jesus, I have no other friend like You.  In times of trial You are always there.  You always hear the unspoken longings o my heart.  You have hidden nothing of Your Father's truth.  Everything I need o know You have revealed.   You have loved me with an unsurpassable  love.  You have given Your life for me, choosing by grace to call me Your friend.  Help me, dearest friend, to love as You have loved and to live as You have lived.  Help me to trust You enough to do all that your command.  I love You.  Amen.

The Audacity of Persistent Prayer


“Once Jesus was in a certain place praying. As he finished, one of his disciples came to him and said, “Lord, teach us to pray…….” Luke 11:1 (NLT)


Father one of the aspects of prayer we may often overlook is the persistence of prayer Jesus spoke of in verse 8  “…..if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence. Luke 11:8 (NLT)


Father as exemplified in this story the reluctance is not from You but our own timidity in not boldly coming before the You.  I am reminded of Abraham’s persistent courage as he stood before You: Genesis 18:29 (NLT)   “Then Abraham pressed his request further. “Suppose….…”  Six times Abraham pursued his request with a persevering “suppose.” This was not an attempt to overcome Your will, but to demonstrate his concern and compassion for his nephew Lot.


Father help us to be as unrelenting in our prayers for those we love and for which we have such great concern. We may not always get the answer we want but we will get the grace we need. The Apostle Paul said: “Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians 12:8-9 (NIV)


Father our joy is in Your wisdom and will and with that we will be content. But may we ever be bold, courageous and shamelessly persistent as we come before You in prayer. For Your glory and honor in all things we ask, seek, and knock. Amen.


Hebrews 4:16 (NLT)
    So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

Making the Right Decision

Wonderful God, you are good,
You have shown your great love
in each work you've done.

Fear

We live in  perilous times. But sometimes the actual danger itself is not as bad as the fear it produces.

Father,

I pray for your people, that we may trust in You and not be dominated by fear. Help us to not to pick up the infection of the people around us, but to remember that You are mighty and able to bring us through. Help us to encourage others taking proper precautions but not to panic and to help others who do.
