“Once Jesus was in a certain place praying. As he finished,
one of his disciples came to him and said, “Lord, teach us to pray…….” Luke 11:1 (NLT)
Father one of the aspects of prayer we
may often overlook is the persistence of prayer Jesus spoke of in verse 8 “…..if
you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need
because of your shameless persistence. Luke 11:8
(NLT)
Father as exemplified in this story the
reluctance is not from You but our own timidity in not boldly coming before the
You. I am reminded of Abraham’s persistent
courage as he stood before You: Genesis 18:29 (NLT) “Then
Abraham pressed his request further. “Suppose….…” Six times Abraham
pursued his request with a persevering “suppose.” This was not an attempt to
overcome Your will, but to demonstrate his concern and compassion for his
nephew Lot.
Father help us to be as unrelenting in
our prayers for those we love and for which we have such great concern. We may
not always get the answer we want but we will get the grace we need. The
Apostle Paul said: “Three times I
pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me,
"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in
weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses,
so that Christ's power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians
12:8-9 (NIV)
Father our joy is in Your wisdom and
will and with that we will be content. But may we ever be bold, courageous and
shamelessly persistent as we come before You in prayer. For Your glory and
honor in all things we ask, seek, and knock. Amen.
Hebrews 4:16 (NLT)
So let us come boldly to
the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will
find grace to help us when we need it most.
Amen
