Revive what has died in me ...

Dear God,

Enlighten what is dark in me.
Strengthen what is weak in me.
Mend what is broken in me.
Bind what is bruised in me.
Heal what I sick in me.

And lastly, revive whatever peace and love has died in me.

THE WIND OF YOUR SPIRIT

Almighty God, send the wind of Your Spirit to blow across the embers of my heart. Stir up the fire of faith and re-ignite my passion for holiness. Kindle within me a desire to use the spiritual gifts You have given me for the good of Your kingdom. May Your Spirit shine forth in power. May that power be governed by self-discipline, and may all I do be done in the love of God. I love You. Amen.

PEACE

Psalm 122:6-8 (NLT)
⁶ Pray for peace in Jerusalem. May all who love this city prosper.⁷ O Jerusalem, may there be peace within your walls and prosperity in your palaces. ⁸ For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, “May you have peace.”

Father from this passage it seems like world peace begins in and with Jerusalem. It is almost stunning how such a small piece of the world’s geography can so epitomize the global struggle for peace. War is such a part of inward conflict and outward confrontation. Throughout history it appears the human race has learned little about how to live in peace.

Yet, Jesus, you remind us of where true peace comes from and it’s transforming power. “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27 (NLT)

And again Father your word reminds us that the “…… experience God’s peace, …...exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 (NLT)

Thank you Father for your peace that settles our hearts in an unsettled world, and for its’ calming influence on our minds in times of uncertainty.

spread the gospel

Lord, give us hearts to desire to spread the gospel of Your Good News! Help us to see the great commission that God gave us in His Word over and over. Let us be eager to go and tell. Let us be eager to tell others about what God has done for us! Lord, give us an unction to be your hands and feet in this world and tell everyone we meet about Christ. Give us willing hearts and boldness to speak to a world that needs a Savior so desperately.

“God said to Solomon, “Because your greatest desire is to help your people, and you did not ask for wealth, riches, fame, or even the death of your enemies or a long life, but rather you asked for wisdom and knowledge to properly govern my people—“

Father it would be so wonderful to have governmental leaders whose hearts are truly motivated by a passion desperate to benefit the people they are elected to serve. And for them to yearn for practical know how in the daily administrating of public affairs.

I am reminded Father “The government is God's servant working for your good.” Romans 13:4 (GW)

Father I pray for all of our public servants for your wisdom to guide them, your mercy to forgive them, your grace to humble them and your love to help them value the lofty position of being servants of God and of the people. That would be a government our forefathers envisioned and we pray for today. It would be a government Father that truly pleases you and serves your purpose.

God Bless America with such Servant/Leaders!

A Franciscan Blessing

May God bless you with a restless discomfort
about easy answers, half-truths and superficial relationships,
so that you may seek truth boldly and love deep within your heart.

May God bless you with holy anger at injustice, oppression,
and exploitation of people, so that you may tirelessly work for
justice, freedom, and peace among all people.

May God bless you with the gift of tears to shed with those who suffer
from pain, rejection, starvation, or the loss of all that they cherish, so that you may
reach out your hand to comfort them and transform their pain into joy.

May God bless you with enough foolishness to believe that
you really CAN make a difference in this world, so that you are able,
with God's grace, to do what others claim cannot be done.

And the blessing of God the Supreme Majesty and our Creator,

Middle East

Father, we pray for the folks in the Middle East, both Israeli and Palestinian. We pray for an end to the fighting and for your shalom to be known by both sides. Bring healing to those who have been injured and comfort to those who have lost loved ones. We ask in the name of the Prince of Peace. Amen

LET ME USE ~~

Every morning with a cup of coffee I read this Diary of Private Prayer as I sit on our Tree House balcony. In the quiet of the morning, and the soft breeze in the air, God always speaks to me through these old English style prayers. Today I want to remember how to use each of these circumstance we face on a regular basis.

"Teach me, O God, so to use all the circumstances of my life today that they may bring forth in me the fruits of holiness rather than the fruits of sins.

Let me use disappointment as material for patience:

Let me use success as material for thankfulness:

Let me use suspense as material for perseverance:

Let me use danger as material for courage:

Let me use reproach as material for longsuffering:

Let me use praise as material for humility:

Let me use pleasure as material for temperance:

Let me use pains as material for endurance."

Certainty

John 9:25 (NLT)
“I don’t know whether he is a sinner,” the man replied. “But I know this: I was blind, and now I can see!”

Father, so much of life is lived in the uncertainty of “I don’t know”. As much as we may think we do know, there is much more we do not know. In fact, Father sometimes I think life should be spelled with a question mark: L?fe.

I am sure this blind man’s life was lived in a ? mark because of the many unanswered questions that surrounded his life. Yet there was that glorious day when the question mark became an exclamation mark expressing the certainty of a new life through the miracle of new sight. What a wonderful transforming difference Jesus makes in a person’s life. And Father what joy to share in the exuberance of this man who could say with total confidence “I know this….”

Father not unlike the blind man Jesus gave sight, I am so glad to say with the certainty of the Apostle Paul: “…..I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return.” 2 Tim.1:12 (NLT)

In you do I take refuge | Praying Psalm 7

O Lord my God, in you do I take refuge; save and deliver me from evil, lest like a lion it tears my soul apart, rending it in pieces, with none to deliver me.

O Lord my God, cause me to do good to others with my hands and help me to encourage all with kind words.

Arise, O Lord, in your anger; lift yourself up against the fury of the enemies of my soul; awake for me.

Cause your peoples to be gathered about you in sweet worship ... the kind that makes evil run.

O Lord hide me in your righteousness and cause me to live according to the integrity that is in me.

Oh, let the evil of the wicked come to an end, and may you establish the righteous — you who test the minds and hearts, O righteous God!

I proclaim that my shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart.

I confess that God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day.

Thank you for your goodness that leads us to repent and for being patient in mercy.

I ask you to open the eyes of the wicked man who conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies. Help him to stop digging a pit of destruction.

I will give to you Lord the thanks due to your righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High.
