Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

PUT A WATCH ON MY TONGUE

JAMES 3:9  "With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God's likeness."

Lord Jesus, take control of my mouth today.  Forgive me for careless, thoughtless, and angry words.  Let my words bless You and others.   I love You.  Amen.

Joy, the Source

Psalm 43:4 (NLT)
“….I will go to the altar of God, to God—the source of all my joy…….”

Father you are the source, the center, the circumference, the core, the substance and the essence of our joy. Your joy is infinite in that it is eternal and finite in that it is personal. Your joy gives us strength in our trials and hope in our despair. Your joy heals broken hearts and restores shattered dreams. Your joy brings meaning to life and expectation to the future.

How beautiful and with what amazing insight did Habakkuk write:   “Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, 18  yet I will rejoice in the LORD! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!” Habakkuk 3:17-18 (NLT)

Father such is the nature of your joy given to us through trusting you. It is your very presence with us and in us that Jesus speaks of in John 15:11 (NLT) “I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!”

Thank you Father for the joy that is ours in Christ as the Apostle Peter spoke of: “You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy.” 1 Peter 1:8- (NLT)

With Happy Hearts,

Prayer of Confession and Forgiveness (Psalm 32)

Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven,
whose sin is put out of sight!
Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt,
whose lives are lived in complete honesty!
When I refused to confess my sin,
my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long.
Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me.
My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat.
Finally, I confessed all my sins to you
and stopped trying to hide my guilt.
I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.”
And you forgave me!
All my guilt is gone.
Therefore, let all the godly pray to you while there is still time,
that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment.
For you are my hiding place;
you protect me from trouble.
You surround me with songs of victory.
The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.
I will advise you and watch over you.
Do not be like a senseless horse or mule
that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.”
Many sorrows come to the wicked,
but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the Lord.
So rejoice in the Lord and be glad, all you who obey him!
Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure!
(Psalm 32, NLT)

Prayer for America

How can we not give thanks for the way that You have overseen our nation?
From our very beginnings we have been evolving and becoming more free.
From within, you have inspired prophetic change for the poorest among us.
From without, you have set us as a city on a hill. A place of hope for immigrants.

Yet we have a long ways to go in our quest to bring your kingdom on earth.
Shower our nation with love for our fellow citizens and those who are not like us.
Shower us with grace that we might be a people who see the best in each other.
Shower our leaders with wisdom that they might lead in ways of peacemaking.

We pray Dear Lord that, one soul at a time, your kingdom will come in America.
That the sick, the hurting and the despondent will be ministered to and healed.
That the most blessed among us will capture a vision of sharing their good fortunes.
That blessed hope would be our banner and divine love would be motto.

So to you we pray. To you we place our hope. Yours is the kingdom. Forever.

Amen

Settling for Mediocrity

Father,

Help Your people not to settle for mediocrity. Help us not to be satisfied with playing church and going through the motions. Put in our hearts the desire to seriously follow You. Help us not to accept anything less. Help us not to be comfort with anything less than continually pressing on to be conformed to the image of Your Son.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen

SEARCH MY SOUL

 I Kings 10:28-32 Scripture Reading

 My Prayer:

Search my soul, O Lord.  Cleanse me from the hypocrisy of condemning other people's sins and idolatry's while failing to fully keep my own heart pure.  Release my hands from worthless idols that cause me to forfeit the fullness of Your grace.  I offer you every thought, every ambition, every lust, every self-indulgence that conflicts with Your holiness in my life.  I bow down gladly in Your awesome presence and invite You alone to fill every chamber of my being.  I love You.  Amen.

Purify my heart.
Touch me with Your cleansing Fire.
Take me to the cross,
You holiness in my desire.

Breathe Your life in me,
Kindle a love that
Flows from Your throne
Oh, purify my heart,
Purify my heart.

The Relationship That Matters Most

Psalm 18:1-2 (NLT)
1 I love you, LORD; you are my strength. 2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.

Father thinking of the Psalmist’s relationship with You and the benefits derived from that relationship it is little wonder that he would say:  “O LORD, I give my life to you. I trust in you, my God!” Psalm 25:1-2 (NLT)

Father the basic relationship we have with you is encapsulated in two words: love and trust. There is no better response that we could give for Your gracious care of us than to love and trust You. So may we each day demonstrate to You and the world our appreciation and gratitude for such compassionate care, provision and protection.

Father You are my God, my all in all, my everything! I will say with the Psalmist: “Praise the LORD! Let all that I am praise the LORD. 2 I will praise the LORD as long as I live……”  Psalm 146:1-2 (NLT)

In the Name of Your beloved Son, Jesus,

Amen

Prayer of Gratitude to God

Father, dear Father,

I am so grateful for everything that you have given me.
Thank you so much for the loved ones in my life,
For the many ways in which I am cared for and supported.
Thank you for the many ways I can serve and give to others.
Thank you for the rich tapestry of colours in creation,
For the beauty which is all around me,
For the skies and the ever changing cloud formations,
For the breathtaking sunsets and early morning mists.
My heart is so grateful and brimming with thanks.
I could write a thousand books about your great goodness,
And still have many stories to tell.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I thank you with everything I am.
All my being cries thank you Lord!

Amen

Help me know the difference.

Lord, I want to say yes to Your assignments
but not run myself ragged by saying yes to everyone's requests.

Help me know the difference.

Help me say 'yes' with joy and 'no' with grace.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Mysterious Journey

Sometimes life can be a puzzle. My current bout with cancer is an illustration of this. A few weeks ago the doctors seemed to be sure that my cancer had moved to my liver and was therefore inoperable. Now a recent biopsy has come back negative, and it may be operable after all (more tests are required). Sometimes we need to trust God even when life does not seem to make sense.

Father,

I thank You that You know what is going on even when we do not. Help us to trust You in whatever difficulties we find ourselves in. Help us to trust Your will. even if we do not know what is happening. And give us Your peace through the ups and downs of the circumstances we do not understand.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen
