Father, I abandon myself into your hands;
do with me what you will.
Whatever you may do, I thank you:
I am ready for all, I accept all.
Let only your will be done in me,
and in all Your creatures -
I wish no more than this, O Lord.
Into your hands I commend my soul;
I offer it to you with all the love of my heart,
for I love you Lord,
and so need to give myself,
to surrender myself into your hands,
without reserve,
and with boundless confidence,
For you are my Father.

bask in the light
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
The first recorded words of our Lord and God… “Let there be light”.
Light separates truth from darkness, provides a source or warmth and comfort, adds depth and dimension to our lives. Let us give thanks and praise for light. Let us be children of the light. Let us bask in the beauty of God and his kingdom that is visibility to us only through the gift of light.
How powerful and mighty is our God – how loving and giving is He – that he can save us from darkness. That he chose to save us from darkness. With his first words. He chose us. He chose light.
Bask in the truth, in the warmth, in the beauty and fullness that is light. Bask in the grace and love of our Lord.
All praise and glory to God.
Amen

Knowing Him!
"Of old hast Thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of Thy hands." Psalm 102:25. Do you know what Paul said at the end of his ministry? That he may know God (see Philippians 3:10). Did he know God? Yes, but he knew so little about Him.
Let me ask you a question. Did Christopher Columbus discover America? Well, he touched on the shores of America. But even today there are thousands of unnamed lakes, forests, and more where no one has yet completely explored. There is so much in Christ. You may have "touched on" Christ, but God's plan is that you know Him more and more each day. ~Adrian Rogers

"the Name"
As I was studying old testament history a few weeks ago, I learned that when the priests were saying the prayer in the temple, they never uttered the name for God. They didn't say "YHWH" or even "Jehovah". They so reverenced His Name that they referred to the Almighty God as "Hashem". That literally meant "the Name". This practice of respect still takes place today in the Jewish world.
God is to be so highly feared and reverenced that even His Name is considered Holy. Hashem.... the Name.... worthy to be honored and worthy to be praised. Let our prayers reflect this in a mighty way.
Oh, mighty God, may we reverence Your Name with such honor! As we utter our prayers let your name be held in the highest regard. You truly are Jehovah. El Elyon - the God most High. The great I AM. Let our hearts fully embrace the knowledge of who you are. You are 'the Name'. You are 'Hashem'. You are God. We give you all honor and praise that is due your name. We bow down and worship you with all that we are and all that we have.
Amen

Prayer for Grandchildren
Grant to my grandchildren your grace, most merciful Jesus, that it may be with them and in them now and to the end of their lives. Grant that they may always desire and will those things that are most acceptable and most dear to you. Let your will be theirs, and let their will ever follow yours and agree perfectly with it. Let their willing and not-willing be in complete unison with your will, and let them not be able to will anything but what you will, nor will not what you will not, in Jesus’ name, amen.

9/11 thanksgiving
It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. Rev 21: 6-7
On September 11, 2011 more than 47,000 people were safely evacuated from two burning towers. It probably ranks as one of the greatest rescue operations in the history of the world.
Yet salvation comes at a cost. On that day, 403 firefighters, police officers and paramedics sacrificed their lives.
A few millennia earlier, one man gave his life to save a people. And when he breathed his last, he looked to heaven and declared, “It is finished.”
Tonight’s prayer is one of thanks, for the victories of 9/11. And the life everlasting these heroes now enjoy.
Amen

Thankful in Chicago
My wife Ann and I will be heading back home to Kansas City from Chicago on Thursday.
It has been a very difficult summer for us. Even so, I want to take a few moments to give thanks.
Lord, for all of the encouraging notes and prayer from friends and family I give thanks.
For that day when the tube came out and Ann was taken off the ventilator I am so grateful.
For the doctors, nurses and medical staff who showed such expertise, care and compassion I give thanks.
For a wife that is a world class fighter and an amazing disciple of yours I praise you.
For the opportunity to return home to a life of modified normalcy I am very grateful.
Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen

could we be those shepherds?
A few weeks ago, some teens and young adults got together for a night of worship and testimony. Tina Colon sang a song that night... a song that I would like to make our prayer for this Monday.
Look at the poverty in this city--how could we let it get so bad?
While they dig through trash cans for their dinner, I walk right by.
Kids will be sleeping on the subway floors tonight.
Look at the brokenness in this city, outstretched hands begging for change.
I ask, 'am I my brother's keeper?' I don't know...
But if we don't keep, then won't they be left alone?
Where are the shepherds, where are the shepherds? you ask.
Many are scattered, who will gather?
Many are sick, many are weary, many are wandering.
Where are the shepherds, where are the shepherds? you ask.
He knows the violence in this city. Just out of jail, only 14.
He steals from the rich to buy some drugs to dull his pain.
But for his delinquency he's not the only one to blame.
See when he was younger, his father would hurt him
Until he ran away from home.
out in the cold, only the streets would take him in.
And out on the streets, they'd teach him he needs violence to live.
Where are the shepherds, where are the shepherds? you ask.
Many are scattered, who will gather?
Many are sick, many are weary, many are wandering.
Where are the shepherds, where are the shepherds? you ask.
But you will search for the ones we've forgotten, you will rescue.
you will bring them into their own land where they will feed.
And we will join you, we'll bind up the injured and strengthen the weak.
'Cuz we are the shepherds, we are the shepherds you seek.
So where are the shepherds, where are the shepherds? you ask
My sheep are still scattered, it's time to gather...
To heal the sick, comfort the weary, walk with the wandering.
Could we be those shepherds, be the shepherds we need?
Peace,
Amen

Smooth Sailing
God has not promised you smooth sailing, but He has promised you a safe landing. He has a purpose in allowing every circumstance into your life. You can bank on this: He’ll see you to the shore in every storm of life. Andrew Murray said, “God is willing to assume full responsibility for the life totally yielded to Him.” One of these days your destiny will be fulfilled. And soon and very soon, He is going to step down from the
mountain of His glory, and the trumpet will sound. Our little ship will leave the sea of time and immediately we’ll be on the shores of eternity. If you are a child of God, when He comes, He’s coming for you! He’s coming for me! ~Adrian Rogers
Philippians 1:6 - “Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

somebody prayed for me.
Anytime we sing this song in church, I always feel the sweet Holy Spirit descend down upon us. I am so thankful for the power and privilege of prayer. I am so thankful that we can lift up the cries of our hearts to the Lord and that we know He hears them and He responds to them. I am thankful that we can bring the needs of others to a caring God and know that He listens. I pray that the words to this song ministers to somebody's heart today.
Somebody went to the Throne of Heaven,
Somebody lifted my name.
Bringing me into His Holy presence,
Saying what I could not say...
Somebody showed me the face of His mercy,
When darkness was all I could see.
Somebody pleaded the blood of Jesus,
Somebody prayed for me.

A Prayer for Humility
Admits its mistakes, recognizes its need, welcomes advice,
Accepts rebuke. Help us always to praise rather than to criticize,
To sympathize rather than to discourage, to build rather than to destroy,
And to think of people at their best rather than at their worst.
This we ask for thy name's sake.
Amen

give thanks to the lord
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.
Let Israel say: “His love endures forever.”
Let the house of Aaron say: “His love endures forever.”
Let my friend Steve, who is going in for bypass surgery next week say: “His live endures forever.”
Let those who impacted by hurricane Irene proclaim: “His love endures forever.”
Let those who fear the LORD say: “His love endures forever.”
When hard pressed, I cried to the LORD; he brought me into a spacious place.
The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
The LORD is with me; he is my helper. I look in triumph on my enemies.
It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in humans.
It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes.
It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in myself.
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

The Promises of God
2 Corinthians 9:8 - “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.”
Recognize the Devil's Lies. The devil wants you to live your life from an empty cup. He wants you to think that God’s cup of grace has dried up for you. He wants you to be disenchanted with God. Most especially, he wants you to feel that God is a cosmic killjoy…that God is always thinking of ways to rob you of joy and peace. Satan knows that if you start to feel negatively about God, then he can have his way with you in other areas. Take courage. Be strong. Jesus has won the victory for you! Send those lies back to the pit where they came from and claim the promises of God. ~Adrian Rogers
Wish someone the peace and joy of the Lord today.
