Today is the day in America that we celebrate our independence. I feel blessed to have been born, raised and living in this country. Yet there remains an unhealthy attitude of independence in our nation that espouses that we do not need God. I am not speaking of a national religion but a corporate understanding of our need of him. Please join me in prayer.We give you thanks today Lord for the blessings that we seem to take for granted every day. We thank you for the ability to meet together in worship and fellowship. We are grateful for those who have gone before us, and for those even today, who have risked all for liberty. We acknowledge that you are the author of all of our liberties and blessings.
Lord, we repent of the ways that we have embraced hedonism and materialism. Somehow we have replaced an awareness of your blessings with a love of material things. We repent of our pride and we plead with you for a national sense of humility. Help us as a nation to lose confidence in ourselves and regain a trust in you because we are blessed when we are your heritage.
We confess that our nation's hope is in the name of Jesus. In his name we pray.
