Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

a prayer for when we are afraid

Be gracious to me, O God ... have mercy on me ... oppression and depression seems to camp all around me ... I need you Lord.

I put my trust in you ... I am afraid ... I lean into your words for courage ... in you I trust ... I shall not be afraid ... what can flesh do to me?

All day long evil seems to lurk trying to injure me ... bombarding me with nasty thoughts ... trying to tempt me and cause me to fall ... but you are faithful Lord.

You have kept count of my trials ... saved my tears and written them in your book ... you understand me and are touched by my pain.

This I know ... you are for me ... I believe your promises to me ... in you I trust ... I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?

I will offer thanks to you today ... for you have delivered my soul from death ... yes, my feet from falling ... that I may walk before you in the light of life.

Praise you Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Amen

a seeking prayer

Look upon us, O Lord,

Let all the darkness of our souls
vanish before the beams of thy brightness.

Fill us with holy love,
and open to us the treasures of thy wisdom.

All our desire is known unto thee,
therefore perfect what thou hast begun,
and what thy Spirit has awakened us to ask in prayer.

We seek thy face,
turn thy face unto us and show us thy glory.

Then shall our longing be satisfied,
and our peace shall be perfect.

Amen.

A Prayer for Waiting

I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry.  He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him. (Psalm 40: 1-3)

Lord, please give us patience to wait on You, for we know that You are near and listen to the cries of our hearts. We know that You care for us and will made our steps secure.

You alone are the rock on which we stand. We remember Your faithfulness and Your steadfast love. Lord, even in the midst of struggles, You place words of praise in our hearts.

Let the multitudes hear us proclaim "You are good!"

Let us also come to rejoice in your trustworthiness. Help us understand that You stand ready to bless all who trust in You alone.

Who can compare to You, O Lord? Who, but You, are worthy of all praise? Let us proclaim Your goodness to everyone we meet. We praise You this day for the blessing of patiently waiting on You
Amen

a prayer for when we feel alone

Dear Father,

I feel so alone in this world and long to feel connected to others.

Friends seem to be so busy and I am just afraid to reach out to them.

I feel so needy and, often without cause, fear their rejection.

Please help me to be at peace in my solitude and rejoice that you are here.

Teach me the ways of openness as I seek you each new day.

Bless me to treasure the people that you bring in my life.

Cause me to be an encourager and one who builds others up.

Help me to remember that you see me even when others don't.

Be with me through this trial and open my eyes as I walk with you.

Thank you for holding me up in this season I am going through.

To you belongs all blessings and honor.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

a prayer of surrender

Lord,
Receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my entire will.
Take all I have and call my own.

You have given all to me.
To you, Lord, I return it.
Everything is yours; do with it what you will.

Give me only your love and your grace, that is enough for me.
Amen.

A prayer to remind us to see life from God's perspective

Luke 22:40–42 (ESV)
40 And when he came to the place, he said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” 41 And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”

Luke 23:34 (ESV)
34 And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.

Mark 11:25 (ESV)
25 And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”

Proverbs 3:5–6 (ESV)
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Lord Jesus,

In the greatest challenge of your life, when you became a human being, your experiences with your creation were bitter and cruel. Yet you still chose the will of Your Father to suffer and die for my sins. You chose to forgive those who crucified you.
Help me to see your perspective and not be chained by my limited perspective and experiences.
Help me to experience your example of submission and trust in God, your Heavenly Father.
Help me to see your perspective, and let your experiences and teachings guide and transform my life, and bring you glory!

In Your Name, I pray

Amen.

A prayer for when we are wrong (for humilty)

Father God,

You are good and faithful, our God who knows the answers to all our questions and understands all we are going through. You are our strength and power, and our great Creator.  You are as close as our family, yet infinitely wiser than we could ever know. Sometimes this makes us feel small.

And we feel that even more when we are wrong.

We confess to you how hard it is for us to be wrong. To be wrong and to admit when we are wrong. When we cannot admit we are wrong, this is pride at its worst. Help us to be humble. Help us to see our own limitations, our own mistakes, and how our pride in all situations can affect others.

You are Jehovah-M’Kaddesh, the God who sanctifies. Sanctify us in our pride, Lord! Use this for our growth so that we may continue to walk with a spirit of humility in order to show the world Jesus.

Amen.

Dear God,

I know that you accept me. Help me to accept myself.

Help me to see myself as you see me. Give me the grace to have your eyes.

I confess that I often struggle with self-doubt and self-criticism.

I compare myself to others all of the time.

Please help me to release negativity and embrace your unconditional love.

Remind me that I am valuable and worthy of love and respect, just as I am.

Help me to forgive myself for past mistakes and to move forward.

Amen

A prayer when your pet has died

WHEN YOUR PET HAS DIED

Lord God and Father of all,
I thank you for the gift of life you gave
my friend and companion.
I thank you that you know how much
I am missing them. I know you
understand my loss, pain,
and sense of bereavement now that they have gone.

Thank you for their liveliness
and brightness, and for their company.
Thank you for the memories I have
and for the many years of happiness
my friend brought me.

If there were a heaven for pets,
I believe my friend would be there now.
Please comfort me in my loss.

Amen.

If God is all knowing, why pray if He already knows my thoughts and feelings?

But if God is all knowing, what’s the purpose of expressing my thoughts or feelings to a Divine Being who already knows them?

It’s true that God already knows what is in our mind and heart: “O LORD, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away” (Ps 139:1–2). However, prayer is less for God and more for us.
Ordinary, everyday conversation with family or friends often helps us realize what we are thinking. The exactness of expression excavates what has been buried within us, hidden from our immediate awareness. Words shared with another help bring into sharper focus ideas or feelings or decisions that we first perceive only in faint outlines. How do I know what I think or what I feel until I hear what I say?

In the same way prayer as conversation with God helps us discover what may be difficult for us to understand or admit about ourselves: “You desire truth in the inward being; therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart” (Ps 51:6). Our conversations with God help us find words that lead us to our inward being and to the truth of our secret heart. Through prayer God helps us listen to our own mind and heart so that we gradually grasp the deeper truths about ourselves that are revealed in and through our very praying.

a prayer when we feel exhausted

Compassionate Lord,

I find myself on the edge, exhausted, and overwhelmed.
The burdens seem heavier than I can bear.

The tasks more significant than my strength.

The journey longer than I can handle.
I pray for the wisdom, courage and love to recover and go on.

I place myself in your hands trusting in your loving strength.

I exalt your name above all names and proclaim my faith in you.

To you belongs all honor and praise.

Amen.

a prayer to have a child like faith

Dear Heavenly Father,

I long to have faith like a child.

Help me to trust in you with the simplicity and purity of a child.

Restore the joy and wonder of my childhood faith.

Free me from the hurts and limitations that have hindered my belief.

Help me to believe in you, to trust in your love, grace and provision.

Just as a child trusts their parent, help me to trust you.

Thank you for your love, care and spiritual guidance.
