Father,
When this world is constantly telling us that we should live our lives on our own, to "pull ourselves up by our bootstraps" and work through it, Your word reminds us of how we are meant to carry one another's burdens and to walk through this world with others, and not by ourselves.
You have created us for community, to belong... you have given us a longing for being part of something. And yet we often feel like we are a burden to others when we ask for help.
Lord, we repent of our stubborn tendency to not consult You when we need guidance. We repent of not trusting You and trusting others with our burdens. Show us the blessing of bearing one another's hurt and pain. And show us the joy of allowing others to walk alongside us in our hurt and pain, so that we might lift each other up.
For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. (Romans 12:4-5)
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2)
†
Amen
