Investing in Others

Isaiah 63:7 - “I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the Lord, and the praises of the Lord.”

One time a man came into a village and asked an old man living there, “Any great men born here?” The old man said, “No, just babies.” Great men are not born; great men are made, investing in the lives of others, sharing God’s love, and showing His mercies. There is not a magic formula that instantly makes us sanctified. Sanctification is a process. Our calling is to be poured out into the lives of others for His glory.
~Adrian Rogers

How can you show His mercies to a lost co-worker or neighbor today?
Pray about it and then watch for how God provides!

Amen

Rain

"Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." Mark 10:15

Dear Lord God,

It is a new day. The rain is falling and the birds are happy. I pray this day, Father God, that I would look at the world through the eyes of a child, that every gift You give would be fresh and full of wonder. May I be as thankful for the puddles as I am for the flowers. May I dance in the rain and never take a thought for my hair. May I get my feet dirty and remember that every good gift comes from You, even dirt.

It is a new day, it is raining, and I am thankful!

He is the TRUE God!

"But the LORD is the true God,
and an everlasting King...."
(Jeremiah 10:10)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh, God, our prayer today is that you would reveal yourself to us for who You are!  You are the true God. The everlasting king! Make your glory known to us in a powerful and tangible way. Let us see you in all your Kingship. May we reverence and honor your name in all that we do and say. Open our eyes to an enlightened understanding of your majesty and your goodness. You are merciful and gracious and loving. You are all that we need. You are our hope and our strength. We praise you and worship you and thank you for your abundant presence in our lives. In the mighty, saving, delivering and everlasting name of Jesus,
Amen
Learning from our Mistakes
This John Wooden quote reminds me that life is so often about what we learn from our mistakes. I pray that this week will find you learning and growing in grace and forgiveness as you live in the knowledge that God loves you regardless of the sins that you have committed and the mistakes that you have made.
Faith is Not Positive Thinking
Romans 10:17 - “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.”
Have you ever wondered why some people seem to have so much faith, others have weak faith, and some have no faith at all? Is God unfair? No, God is no respecter of persons (see 2 Chronicles 19:7). He has given to every man a measure of faith (see Romans 12:3). And so, what is faith? Let me first say what it is not. Faith is not positive thinking or optimism. It is not a feeling that you can do something. It is not a hunch or looking on the sunny side of the street. Faith is getting a word from God and acting upon it. You see, you can get a word from God and believe that word. That is belief. But when you act upon it, that is faith. Faith is belief with legs on it. ~Adrian Rogers
Today is the day that you put your foot of faith upon the promises of God and say, “That promise is mine!”
Amen!
who is this King of Glory?
"Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong
and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle."
(Psalm 24:8)
Lord, we thank you that YOU are our King of Glory. We praise your Holy name for who you are and what you do in our lives. You are mighty and strong and powerful. You are our strength and our shield. You do battle for us and you are always there for us. You are our King of Glory and we worship you with all that we are and all that have. Thank you for your presence in our lives.
Prayer for the Blessing of Stem Cells
Today my wife Ann is getting a stem cell transplant. It is scheduled for 1:30pm CDT. I found this blessing on a blog titled "What About Bob?" and thought that it would be appropriate to pray today.
This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Most Merciful God, Creator and Sustainer of LIfe,
We come before you today, humbled by your great gift of life. In your infinite love, you planted within us these tiny cells that have the power to heal and renew. For giving scientists, physicians, and nurses the knowledge to use these cells for our well-being, we give you thanks. For having brought us to this special day, we give you thanks.
Today, we ask a special blessing on Ann as he receives these life-giving cells. Let her trust not only in their power to heal, but in Your invitation to new life and new birth. Grant Ann patience and hope as she waits for the restoration of body, mind, and spirit.
And now, send your spirit upon these cells, blessing them with your love and healing power.
In Your Holy Name, we pray.
Amen
The Comparison Trap
Have you ever noticed that we buy things we don’t need with money we don’t have to impress people we don’t even like? We try to keep up with the Jones family, but when we finally catch up with them, they refinance! Let me exhort you to get off that comparison treadmill and onto the pathway of serenity. You are accepted right now in Christ. God does not change you so He can love you. He loves you so He can change you! God loves you as much as He loves Jesus. If you are saved, you are in Christ. And where is He? He is seated in the heavenlies. You are also seated in those heavenly places, even though you still have your address on planet Earth. You are enthroned with Him. ~Adrian Rogers
Ephesians 2:6 - “And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”  Amen
This New Day
Dear Lord,
It is a new day. The sun is shining and I have no idea what today will bring. I pray today that You would set a watch over my mouth, that my words would be sweet, and my motives pure. I ask for Your strength to face the day, Your power when I am weak, and Your light to see my way through those dark moments. Please take my hand and lead me through.
Amen
prayer and praise
Prayers needed for my son-in-law Cody. He and his wife Ashlie have 2 young boys, 4 and 2 and she is expecting their 3rd child - a precious little girl - in about 5 weeks. Yesterday he was helping a friend fix a barn roof and apparently part of the wood was rotten and they didn't know. Cody fell through and fell on his back. He has been moved to Shreveport for surgery. He has 3 broken vertebrae, 2 ruptured discs and one of the bones is proturding into the spine. He doesn't have any spinal damage. He can move his arms and legs just fine. Please pray for them as they are 3 hours from home and away from their boys. He is waiting for a surgery time today but is still in a good deal of pain. He was supposed to go back to work in about 2 weeks. He is a pipeliner, so now we don't know what he will be able to do after he recovers. Cody is 28 and my girl is just 21. Please cover them in your prayers.
Lord, we thank you that you are the author of all things in our life. You created us and you have ordained each step of our journey on this earth. You have a plan for us and it is the BEST plan. We can always rest assured that whatever journey you take us on, you will be right there with us. Thank you for you hand of protection on Cody - it could have been much worse than it is. I praise you for your goodness and your mercy and your faithfulness. We love you and trust you in all things. You are our God and You are sovereign! We lift up all who are in need of a touch and ask that you minister to each one just as they need it. In the might and saving name of Jesus Christ our Lord,
Things you don't have to pray about.
A few days ago I was thinking about prayer and it dawned in me that there are things that I don't have to pray about. Consider the following. I don't have to ask God to:
  • love me.
    He unconditionally loved me before I was born.
  • be with me.
    He never leaves me and He is always there listening.
  • work all things together for my good.
    He is always making lemonade out of my lemons.
  • intercede for me.
    He ever lives to make intercession for me.
  • invite me to pray.
    He has already welcomed me to come boldly to Him.
In light of these, and His many other blessings, I think that it is always appropriate to pray a prayer of thanksgiving. I will let you come up with the words.
Amen
The Lord Ever-Present
1 John 4:4 - “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
The One who created the valley is there with you! He has prepared the way through the valley. It is not a place of permanence but a place of passage. He knows every twist and turn, every changing shadow, every den where danger lurks — that One is with you! Focus on the light and not the darkness. God has made you to walk through shadows. When the shadow approaches, you must walk through. The One greater than death is in you! He is your Jehovah Shamah — the Lord ever-present. His grace is greater. His peace is purer. His devotion is dearer. Where Satan casts a shadow, our Sovereign Lord reigns supreme.
~Adrian Rogers
This is a day of hope. Meditate on 1 John 4:4 throughout the day and ask God to give you a divine appointment to share this beloved truth with someone today. Amen.
the divine Comforter
"The Spirit intercedes for the saints
in accordance with God's will"
(Romans 8:27)
~~~~~~~~
The Comforter plants Himself not in the mountains, but in the middle of the human heart, to rouse it to the struggle and to teach it the need of prayer.

The Divine Comforter puts the burden of earth's need into human hearts and makes human lips give voice to their unutterable groaning!

What a mighty Christ of prayer is the Holy Spirit! How He quenches every flame in the heart but the flame of heavenly desire. How He quiets, like a weaned child, all the self-will, until we pray only as He prays.

(reprinted from The Power of Prayer by E.M. Bounds)

Father, I thank You that Your Spirit intercedes for us in accordance to Your will. What a mighty God we serve!

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! [Psalm 33:12]

Today is the day in America that we celebrate our independence. I feel blessed to have been born, raised and living in this country. Yet there remains an unhealthy attitude of independence in our nation that espouses that we do not need God. I am not speaking of a national religion but a corporate understanding of our need of him. Please join me in prayer.

We give you thanks today Lord for the blessings that we seem to take for granted every day. We thank you for the ability to meet together in worship and fellowship. We are grateful for those who have gone before us, and for those even today, who have risked all for liberty. We acknowledge that you are the author of all of our liberties and blessings.

Lord, we repent of the ways that we have embraced hedonism and materialism. Somehow we have replaced an awareness of your blessings with a love of material things. We repent of our pride and we plead with you for a national sense of humility. Help us as a nation to lose confidence in ourselves and regain a trust in you because we are blessed when we are your heritage.

We confess that our nation's hope is in the name of Jesus. In his name we pray.

Amen

Is there meaning in tragedy?

When tragedy strikes, it is common for people to ask, “What does this mean?” When we witness some disaster or mass murder, there is a natural feeling that what has happened should not have happened. This innate sense of “wrongness” is a clue to meaning in these events. When we look to find meaning in tragedy, we must have the right perspective. We need to approach the question in a way that allows for a coherent answer, and this is only possible through a Christian worldview. Because God instills meaning into every moment and event in history, through Him we can begin to find meaning in suffering. The nature of this world lends itself to tragic events. Fortunately, God speaks to us, so that we can find not only meaning, but salvation and relief from the sufferings of the world.

A Special Blessing

Dear Lord,
Sometimes there are occurrences in life that are purely meant to bless us and I thank you, Father, for the chance to sail with my husband on the tall ship last Sunday afternoon. When I watched it sail into the harbor last year in Oswego, I never dreamed I'd actually one day find myself on board. As You teach me to see the blessings in the little things, and as I count the ways You show Your love for me each and every day let me never forget to be grateful.
Thank you, Lord, for You never ending love.
Amen
