A Living Hope

1 Peter 1:3 (NIV)
       “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,“

Thank you Father for the Living Hope we have through faith in Jesus. This living hope gives us motivation to courageously face each day, joy to encounter the changing circumstances of life, and expectation as we look forward to a positive future. It becomes the strength of our soul and at the same time the tranquility of our spirit. It cannot be defeated, demeaned or disappointing because its source and power is You. “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure…..” Hebrews 6:19 (NIV)

Thank you Father for this blessed, glorious and eternal hope that makes all the difference in our lives for time and eternity.

In the name of Jesus our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Seek His Face

Father, thank You that You are the one who is always in charge of our lives. You are sovereign God. Thank You that You have never lost control. And yet, You call us to pray, to humble ourselves and call on You, turning from our wicked ways in repentance to seek Your face. Teach us again that you often work through a remnant. You call us to stand in the gap for Your cause. Your eye is on us, Your people. You neither slumber nor sleep. You are carrying out Your will through those who love You and serve You. I pray that we will know You more and more and be a light in the world to make a difference. Help us to be disciplined and have the courage to bear witness to You in a world that is in darkness.

We ask these things in faith in the name of Your Son, Jesus, Amen

2 Chronicles 7:14 (NLT) Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.

a prayer for kindness

Most great and most high God,

You over all things. Your power is unmatchable! Your love is the most gracious, your strength is above all, and your peace the most comforting. We thank you for being a God we can trust, knowing you keep all your promises, and that your love for your children is never-ending.

Father, in a time when we hurt, in a time in which we are hurt, we pray for kindness. We ask for your spirit of gentleness come upon our hearts and we seek to be kind to all people, even those who've hurt us. Hold our tongues, O God, if any word is less than kind. Soften our hearts, O God, when they harden against those unkind to us and to other. Check our mind, O God, when we desire to judge rather than listen and hear.

Lord God, bring us back to your Word. May we believe and live out the truth of your gospel to the world. Help us to lean into this calling, no matter how challenging. For you, O God, are Jehovah-jirah, the one who provides. Help us to believe that you will provide in all difficult circumstances because of your great love for us.

Amen

Father, we pray for your people as the enemy seeks to divide us through the acts and speeches of politicians. Help us to remember that we serve the King of Kings and that our allegiance is to him first. Let us be more concerned with loving our brothers and sisters than in trying to prove we are right. May we build up, rather than tear down. Let the world know that we are Christ's disciples by our love for each other rather than our political affiliation. Amen

IN THE QUIET OF THE MORNING

 Dear Heavenly Father ~ In the quiet of the morning, I will worship Your name.  I will lift my voice with singing to praise You again.  For it fills my heart with gladness that remains through the day.  In the quiet of the morning, I will worship Your name. *

You're calling me to a deeper place.  You are calling me to come away.  This is the day You have made to walk in Your love and grace.  And I will sing to You my King, forever and ever.

I will rise up and worship Your holiness.  I will sing a song of Your faithfulness.  On the mountains and through the valleys.  Your love will be my peace.  And I will sing of Your love for me.  I love You.  Amen. **

The Name

Acts 5:41-42 (NLT)
     41 The apostles left the high council rejoicing that God had counted them worthy to suffer disgrace for the name of Jesus. 42 And every day, in the Temple and from house to house, they continued to teach and preach this message: “Jesus is the Messiah.”

Acts 26:9 (NLT)
     9 “I used to believe that I ought to do everything I could to oppose the very name of Jesus the Nazarene.

Father what a contrast and conflict is evoked by the simple mention of The Name, Jesus. It is in and through his name alone we have all the benefits of your grace. But for him there would be no hope, no forgiveness, no future. His name is both majestic and mighty. It is both powerful and penetrating. It is both saving and sanctifying.

Father I think of the song:
Jesus! oh, how sweet the name,
Jesus! every day the same;
Jesus! let all saints proclaim
    Its worthy praise forever.

Thank you Father for his worthy name and for the life we have as the result of believing in him and for the scriptures that bear witness to this eternal truth.

John 20:31 (NLT)
     ……these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.

In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.

For Your Justice and Mercy

Lord God,

We thank You that You are a God of compassion, love and mercy whose watchful eye is always seeing our world from a perspective we don't understand. As finite beings, we can't begin to fathom or understand the tragedies and the evil that happen day after day and seem to worsen each day. As Your children, we are called to stand in the gap for those who are helpless and hurting.

We come before You today asking for mercy for the weak and the helpless. We ask that truth begin to be revealed in the situations that are existing in our country with those who are weak and hurting. Would you give our leaders wisdom and a unified spirit to deal with what is at hand and cease the endless divisions so that justice and mercy can be meted out fairly without prejudices. We know that with You nothing is impossible and so we can boldly come to You asking for intervention or doable solutions to begin to unfold.

We trust in Your justice and Your unfailing love,

It is in the name of Your Son, Jesus we pray, Amen

Psalms 82:3 Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute.

a prayer for things to be made right

Lord God,

Maker of all things... Creator of Heaven and earth... Lord, you are God. You make all things grow, all things beautiful, and all things new.

Yet, we hurt, Lord. We are hurting as we see families torn apart. We are hurting as we see good work stunted, beautiful things broken, and the truth of Your Word being misused by many. Our hearts ache, Lord, for what we know isn't right. Sin has broken our relationship with You and our relationships with this world. Have mercy on us, forgive our sinfulness, and transform us to be more like Jesus.

Help us to bring peace to this broken world. Help us be instruments of Your love and grace. For all that is wrong will be made right, Father, and help us to to push back the affects of sin and make this world shine in the light of Your glory.

Amen

You always give us what is best and always do what is right and good. We thank you and we love you.   Amen

God our Father,
in your wisdom and love you made all things.
Bless those fathers who have taken upon themselves, the responsibility of parenting.
Bless those who have lost a spouse to death ... or divorce
who are parenting their children alone.
Strengthen them by your love that they may be and become
the loving, caring persons they are meant to be.

FATHER

   “Honor your father ……..”
Exodus 20:12 (NIV)

Dear heavenly Father, Father’s Day finds my heart stirred with thoughts of my Dad, raised in the country, a child of the great depression who lived through many difficult days. And though his years were few, just 52, he loved his family and worked hard to provide for us. My memories of him are limited for I only knew him for 12 years before our home was broken through the stress of irreconcilable human relationship that often leads to despair and divorce.

Yet, he was my father, I bear his name and image. Some of his traits and disposition are mine. And though I did not know him well here, we will get far better acquainted in heaven where all things will be made new and infinitely better. So Father, I thank You for my Dad, and want to honor him with an expression of my love and respect that will find its full bloom in heaven and our anticipated joyful reunion.

Amen

Living in the Light

Lord, thank You that You are Light and in You there is no darkness. As I walk with You I don't have to be afraid of the dark. Even in the darkest night, You are there. In the scary, dark places, You have treasures for me, which shine even brighter against the darkness. As I go through those times, Your presence and grace comfort and bring light to my soul. As I trust in You and follow You, may your glorious light shine on me to see me through. In Jesus name I pray, Amen

Help us Lord to reign in our egos.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. [Matthew 5:16]

Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. [Matthew 6:1]

These verses may seem to be at odds with each but they are not. They both deal with motivation. The first is about glorifying God while the second is glorifying ourselves.

Help us Lord to reign in our egos.
Teach us Lord to be aware of why we do good things.
Let the message of our lives be all about shining our lights for you.

We pray that our lives would be loving and ones that bring you glory.
Help us to embrace a love for others that is unconditional and divinely exalting.
In all of our ways. In all of our days. Help us to be like you.

Amen

Seeing through God’s eyes

Father,

In a world full of brokenness, ugliness, and evil, help us to find beauty in the ordinary. The joy in the pain. The complex in the simple. The wonder amidst the cynicism.

Help us to see the world through your eyes, and to point others to you. Thank you for the hope of Jesus Christ: the beauty, the joy, the complex, and the wonder. The good. For he is continuing to redeem this broken world.

HAVE YOU BEEN WITH JESUS?

Acts 4:12,13
"Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."  When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and took note that these men had been with Jesus."

Dear Lord, I am Your witness, that You are God and apart from You there is no Savior.  Help me to declare the truth with boldness.  May the words of my mouth and the testimony of my life make it clear that I've been with You, dear Jesus.   I love You.  Amen.

Undeserved Privilege

Romans 5:2 (NLT)
     2 Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.

Father when I contemplate the privilege of friendship and fellowship with you, it is stunning. The wonder of such a personal relationship with God, who created and sustains all things. God with whom power has no limit, wisdom has no error, love has no measure, holiness has no flaw and mercy has no prejudice.

This privilege makes us the apple of your eye, the object of your affection and the treasure of your heart. What an astounding thought! How much you love us and think about us. It reminds me of Psalm 139:17 (NLT) How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!

Father, may I ever be mindful that, this privilege is undeserved. This is pure and glorious grace. It is a relationship which only you could make possible. Thank you Father from an undeserving heart and an eternally grateful soul.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Privileges

How great are my privileges in Christ Jesus!
Without him I stand far off, a stranger, an outcast;
  in him I draw near and touch his kingly sceptre.
Without him I dare not lift up my guilty eyes;
  in him I gaze upon my Father-God and Friend.
Without him I hide my lips in trembling shame;
  in him I open my mouth in petition and praise.
Without him all is wrath and consuming fire;
  in him is all love, and the repose of my soul.
Without him is gaping hell below me, and eternal
    anguish;
  in him its gates are barred to me by his precious
    blood.
Without him darkness spreads its horrors in front;
  in him an eternity of glory is my boundless
    horizon.
Without him all within me is terror and dismay,
  in him every accusation is charmed into joy and
    peace.
Without him all things external call for my
    condemnation;
  in him they minister to my comfort,
  and are to be enjoyed with thanksgiving.
Praise be to thee for grace,
  and for the unspeakable gift of Jesus.
Amen

a prayer for presence

Father,

Here in Your presence we kneel in silence, and with penitent and obedient hearts confess our sins, so that we may receive forgiveness by his compassion and mercy torward us.

Lord God, we give thanks for Your Son, who triumphed over the powers of death, and how He made a way for us to be with Your forever. Grant that we, who give thanks for the resurrection, may praise You in excellence. For You are the light, and it is Your presence in our hearts that keep us from the darkness.

We have not loved you with our whole heart and we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. Have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways. Keep us walking in step with Your Spirit, practising presence with You. For Your light penetrating the darkness when we remain in You.

To the glory of your Name.

KEEPS ME FROM FALLING

 Jude 1:24  "To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy ~~to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen!"

But as for me, O Lord, my feet had almost slipped;  I had nearly lost my foothold....Yet, I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand.  You guide me with your counsel, and afterwards you will take me to glory.  Whom have I in heaven but you?  The earth has nothing I desire besides you.  My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.  O Jesus my Savior, You alone keep me from falling.  You alone present me faultless before God ~ right now, and forevermore.  I love You.  Amen.

Give Thanks

Psalm 92:1-4 (NLT)
     1 It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to the Most High. 2 It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening,
3 accompanied by the ten-stringed harp and the melody of the lyre. 4 You thrill me, LORD, with all you have done for me! I sing for joy because of what you have done.

Indeed Father, it is good to express our gratitude to you for the countless blessings you have so generously given us. And as great as your gifts are they do not compare to the gift of yourself to us.

Thank you Father for the gift of your presence with us, for your peace that settles our hearts in troubled times and for your strength that sustains us every day. Thank you for so many prayers answered, so many hopes fulfilled, and so many needs met. What a gracious, compassionate and merciful God and Father you are.

Indeed “It is good to give thanks to the LORD.”

We worship and praise you Father, in the name of your Son and our Savior, Jesus. Amen!

Glory to glory

Precious Father, how wonderful You are! Thank You for loving me like You do. You are showing me how to find high ground even in the valley of disappointment. I now see this phase of my journey as sacred and significant. Help me to look for and find the treasures in this place. This I know: You are changing me, transforming me into Your likeness. I am living and breathing on the earth today to bring You glory and reflect Your goodness. And no delay or disappointment can keep me from that divine appointment! Continue Your good work in me. Thank You for all of the blessings I enjoy today. Help me never take them for granted. I love You, Jesus, Amen.

"We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves; For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 2 Corinthians 4:7, 17
