Prayer of Thankfulness

O heavenly Father, I usually do not know what to say when I pray. I only know that you are with me when I consciously bring myself into your presence. I am thankful that you welcome me. I am thankful that you receive me into your presence because you love me and you delight in me through your son Jesus Christ. I feel at peace with you Father even though I know I am by myself not worthy of you. I feel rested in your presence knowing that my life is in your hands even though I'm struggling in life. I may say that life is hard but life is nevertheless good because you fill my life with hope.

Praying when we feel Alone and Forsaken

My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? ... O my God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not answer; and at night, but I have no rest. [Psalm 22:1-2 MEV]

I think that this prayer is filled with theological misunderstanding. Yet I love this prayer because it is so real. So raw. Who cannot relate to praying such a prayer? Who has not felt forsaken in times of trouble. Jesus echoed this sentiment from the cross. Feeling forsaken is a part of being human.

This kind of transparent prayer is why I love David so much. He was certainly an ordinary man with human frailties. Yet his transparency was so extraordinary. In this psalm he gives us a healthy model of prayer as he lays out his frustrations before the Lord. And God meets him right where he is.

Dear Lord,

Help us to not to bury our disappointments, frustrations and feelings of being forsaken.

Teach us to be honest with you and with ourselves about our feelings of forsakenness.

And help us to know that you are ever with us. Even when we feel alone and forsaken.

Amen

For the Poor

Father,

I pray for those who are poor and in need. In pray for those who may be starving and in need of basic necessities. I pray for those who have these necessities but are barely getting by. I pray that they might turn to You in their time of need, and I pray You will provide for them. I pray for Your people, that we may do what we can to help. I pray for those whose need is because of their own bad choices, that You will help them back onto the right path. And I pray that we may offer forgiveness and help rather than condemnation.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen

Father, keep us mindful that we are citizens of the kingdom of Heaven first and foremost and that our true allegiance is to be to Jesus Christ. While we may debate political viewpoints, help us remember that those are not of ultimate importance. Amen

GOD'S WILL FOR YOU

I Thessalonians 5:16-18

"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

Dear Lord, so many times I tell myself I don't know your will, that I feel lost, and then I see a verse in your Word that so clearly states You will for ME.

You want me to rejoice always, pray continually and give thanks in all circumstances.  This is Your will for Me...and I want an easier path.  But what peace, joy and freedom come from being obedient to these three things.

Hard, but not impossible, because the indwelling Holy Spirit, our Helper gives me the grace and power to be obedient, and KNOW I'm pleasing you as I do Your will!  Lord no matter what comes into  my life, help me to rejoice always, pray continually, and give You thanks in all circumstances.  I love You.  Amen.

Eternally Grateful

Father, thank you for life, for so many things you give us that bring such meaning and fulfilment. Most important of all is for Yourself, your love, mercy, forgiveness and the assurance of your presence with us in time and our presence with you in eternity.

Romans 8:31-39 (NLT)
31  What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? 32  Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?
33  Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself.
34  Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.
35  Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? 36  (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”)
37  No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
38  And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39  No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Jesus you said: “……My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” John 10:10 (NLT)

You have certainly done that for which we are eternally grateful!

Prayer of Desperation

O Father,
You are my place of refuge.
You are all I really want in life.
Hear my cry, for I am very low.
Rescue me from my persecutors,
for they are too strong for me.
Bring me out of prison so I can thank you.
The godly will crowd around me,
for you are good to me.
- Psalm 142:5-7 NLT

Faith...

We quote this scripture often. But do we believe it? Do we honestly believe faith can move mountains?

God's Word is truth. Everything in it is truth. The problem is we don't follow through our belief with action.

It's time to pray big. It's time to believe big. It's time to receive big.....

He is able and He is willing.

Read the Word and know it is truth. Believe for miracles according to the will of our God! Faith can move mountains!

When the Door Closes

Last Thursday I went in for surgery for my pancreatic cancer. I believed and prayed right up to last minute that surgery might be possible and that this could be God's way of healing me. But I found out that the cancer had spread and it would do no good to operate. What that leaves me with is either God is going to do a miracle (I believe in miracles, but I believe God does them according to His will. I have no reason to be convinced He will do so in my case), or it is my time to go home. I appreciate all past prayers and  all continued prayers, and I am trusting God for His will in this situation.

Father,

I thank You that You are good and that we can trust You even when things do not turn out the way we would like them to. Help us trust You even when things go bad and You do not do what we want You to do. Help us understand that You know and understand far more than what we understand. And help us remember Your love in sending Your Son to die for us.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen

SANCTIFY CHRIST AS LORD

Dear Lord, I want to sanctify you with my daily life.  I know this is not easy in our upside down world, but help me

Separate myself from the world and its pleasures
Avoid not only the occasion of sin, but even the appearance of evil.
Nurture my spiritual life through the daily disciplines of the Word and prayer.
Cultivate a vital and vibrant relationship with the Lord within my family and church.
Test the spirits to avoid the pitfalls of error.
Identify with those who love and walk with the Lord
Fortify my heart and home against attacks from within or without.
Yearn for a deeper and more authentic walk with the Lord.

Lord this is my prayer.  I love You.  Amen

This was a series of sermons our Pastor gave, and at the end gave us a bookmark with the above to help us remember how to live a sanctified life that would please Him.

What Are Friends For?

2 Corinthians 7:6-7 (NLT)
6 “……God, who encourages those who are discouraged, encouraged us by the arrival of Titus. 7 His presence was a joy……”

Father, the Apostle Paul reminds us how important our friends are and the far reaching influence that have in our lives. Paul needed encouragement, hope and joy in his difficult ministry to the Corinthian Church and You provided that for him through the loving presence of his dear friend, colleague and son in the faith, Titus.

Father as Titus was a personal gift from You to Paul through his friendship, so are our friends to us. As Job said: "A despairing man should have the devotion of his friends…..” Job 6:14 (NIV) The Apostle Paul certainly had that in Titus.

Thank you Father for the friends you have given us and are true in their devotion as the Bible says: “A friend loves at all times….” Proverbs 17:17 (ESV)

In the name of our greatest Friend, Jesus. Amen.

Prayer for Our Country

My country celebrate itself today, being Malaysia Day. And I would like to pray for my country, and for your country. I found a very good prayer here and it's long, but a good one: A Prayer for Our Country and Our Leadership.

Our Father in heaven, we thank you that we are citizens of heaven as much as we are citizens of our countries. While we are here on earth, we are grateful that you are Emmanuel, you are with us. We pray that your holy governance of the world will produce good and wise leaders, who will hold on to justice above their own desires. We pray that they will be pure in their intentions, and godly in their convictions. We pray that the people will find you, to find hope and finally peace on earth and goodwill toward all men.

Amen

A prayer for holiness

We have a responsibility to bring our spiritual lives into line with the holiness of God so we can be invaded by the presence of God in the person of the Holy Spirit. Holiness is not something we can cultivate on our own but only through the working of the Spirit in us.

It is something we should yearn for each day and strive to attain. A.W. Tozer puts it succinctly in this prayer:

"Oh, that we might yearn for the knowledge and presence of God in our lives from moment to moment, so that without human cultivation and without toilsome seeking, there would come upon us this enduement, this sweet and radiant fragrance that gives meaning to our witness!"

May this be our prayer every day. To be holy. To be like Him. To be used for His kingdom and glory always.

Waiting on the Lord

Waiting on the Lord is often the hardest thing we have to do. I have been waiting for about three weeks for the surgery that will attempt to remove my pancreatic cancer. (It is scheduled for this Thursday). Waiting while having to deal with the other vicissitudes of life can be very wearing.

Father,

Help all of Your people, in big things or in small, to learn to wait for Your timing. Give us the patience and trust in You necessary to deal with these waiting periods. And help us to deal in a calm and deliberate way with the things we need to deal with during the wait.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen

Brokenness

Abba, we feel the brokenness of this world. We pray for the parents who have lost children, the folks who have lost spouses, the couples who long to have children, those who have seen dreams die, and those who suffer from illness and pain. Help them to trust that you are a good and loving Father who loves his children and always does what is best, even when we don't understand. Please don't let these things go to waste, but use them to make your children more like our Savior. Amen

God Bless America

The Flag stands among the ruins and rubble of lives lost, dreams destroyed, families broken, friends gone, a way of life under sever attack. All gone in the fire, smoke and ashes of the collapsed Twin Towers. Terrorists had done their worst, yet there standing in the midst of smoldering ashes and debris is the FLAG of the United States of America.

The FLAG stands for governmental liberty, for the dignity of humanity, for equal opportunity, for religious freedom, for freedom of speech, for the best hopes and dreams of a better life and more glorious future. She stands for what is right, noble and just for all who follower her and seeks to embrace the values she represents.

And where do these values come from Father, but You. They come through your grace, mercy, truth, and love. You have established the foundation on which if any people will build their lives in faith and obedience will reap Your overflowing benefits. That is why Father you Word tells us:

1 Corinthians 3:11 (GW)
After all, no one can lay any other foundation than the one that is already laid, and that foundation is Jesus Christ.

Therefore Father the following verses are true:

Psalm 33:12 (GW)
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD. Blessed are the people he has chosen as his own.

Psalm 144:15 (GW)
Blessed are the people who have these blessings! Blessed are the people whose God is the LORD!

So Father when we give our pledge to the Flag of the United States of America it is with the acknowledgement that we are “One Nation Under God.” Without You Father, we are nothing. So on this weekend of 911 when we remember how much was lost in the assault on our nation, we also remember all we have as “One Nation Under God” and it is Your blessings that have sustained us throughout our history.

Thank You Father that we can still sing and pray “God Bless America!”

In the Name of Jesus our Lord and Savior,

Amen

St Ignatius Prayer of Generosity

Lord, teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
to give and not to count the cost,
to fight and not to heed the wounds,
to toil and not to seek for rest,
to labor and not to ask for reward,
save that of knowing that I do your will.

WORTHY OF HIS CALLING

2 Thessalonians 1:11  "With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of His calling, and that by His power He may fulfill every good purpose yours and every act prompted by your faith."

Dear Lord, as I ponder this verse I must ask myself, am I worthy of Your calling in my life.  Only  by your grace am I worthy of anything.  Only what you have done gives us the motivation to honor you in every hour of our lives.  Perhaps it's as simple as walking out of a movie that proves to be unworthy of my eyes, or a book that must be discarded.  An act of forgiveness when it's hard.  A helping hand when it's not convenient.  Lord, make my life and every day walk pleasing to you and worthy of Your calling.  I love You.  Amen.

Suffering with a Purpose

Job 36:15 (NLT)
But by means of their suffering, he rescues those who suffer. For he gets their attention through adversity.

Father you get our attention in suffering. You refocus our attention with suffering. You reward our attention by deliverance from suffering.

So then we may say with the Psalmist: “My suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to your decrees.” Psalm 119:71 (NLT)

And we can more sincerely pray: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”  Psalm 139:23-24 (NLT)

Thank you Father for your plan that surpasses our understanding but accomplishes your purpose for us in our suffering. For we know: “…..our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!“ 2 Corinthians 4:17 (NLT)
Amen

I am broken. I am weak.

There are times when I feel fearful of the situation, fearful that it will turn bad, fearful that I will end up in the wrong place, doing and saying the wrong things, fearful that I will lose control.

But in actual fact, I am in need of God. I am broken and weak and in no way am I able to save myself. I need his leading and I need his assurance.

Dear Abba, I am broken. I am weak. I need to realize that every day of my life and not think that I am any good. But to know that my goodness, my capabilities only comes from you. You are the source of my strength. You are the source of my life. I am fully dependent on you. I can do nothing without you. I can only do what I do everyday through Christ who strengthens me. I am broken, in you I am made whole. I am weak, in you I am made strong. Help me live my life everyday in you and through you. Not fearing anything but to trust in you, my Lord, my God and my King.

To be Strong in Sickness

Last Friday I fell and fractured my pelvis is two places. Almost a week later I am still in pain but not as much as I was back then. I am thankful for the ways that God has used people to help me in all aspects of my recovery. From the Good Samaritan who helped me up when I fell to those who ministered to me in the hospital, God has been with me in every step of this recovery. I have weeks of recovery left but I am so thankful for the progress so far. Please pray this prayer with me that I may be strong as I recover.

Lord,
teach me the art of patience whilst I am well,
and give me the use of it when I am sick.
In that day,
either lighten my burden
or strengthen my back.
Make me
(who so often in my health
have discovered my weakness,
presuming on my own strength)
be strong in my sickness
when I solely rely on your assistance.
Amen
