SWEETER THAN HONEY

Psalm 119:97-103  "Oh how I love Your law!  It is my meditation all the day.  ~How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth..."

Thank You, Father, for the gift of Your Word.  Please forgive us for the times when we've rushed through reading without taking the time to savor the richness of its meaning.  Help us to listen to your voice.  We love You.  Amen

THE JOURNEY

Ezra 8:21 (NLT)
   We prayed that he would give us a safe journey and protect us as we traveled……

Thank you Father, for a wonderful, safe and joyous journey to be with our daughter Jill at the birth of our grandson Tristan in Oregon. As you know Father, journeys are always an issue with me because of past experiences in road mishaps. But even with such ominous possibilities your comforting peace gave relieving assurance. And so I can say with Ezra: …we earnestly prayed that our God would take care of us, and he heard our prayer.”  Ezra 8:23 (NLT)

Thank you Father for a journey to remember, a life to celebrate, and a memory to cherish with profound gratitude, Amen!!!

Make me an instrument of your peace ...

This is the Prayer of St. Francis.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred let me sow peace;
where there is injury let me sow forgiveness;
where there is doubt let me sow faith;
where there is despair let me give hope;
where there is darkness let me give light;
where there is sadness let me give joy.

0 Lord, grant that I may
not try to be comforted, but to comfort,
not try to be understood but to understand,
not try to be loved but to love.

Because it is in giving that we receive,
it is in forgiving that we are forgiven,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

There is a selflessness communicated in this prayer that I am drawn to. In this summer season let us endeavor to be praying people. God has given us many gifts and we all have much to be thankful for. I pray that we (read that I) will be agents of hope, encouragement and inspiration to those near to us.

Sweet Father, I lift up every hurting heart to you today. Minister healing and comfort to all those who are burdened or heavy hearted. Send your sweet Holy Spirit to each person in need and apply a soothing balm to their wounded spirits.

Sweet Father, I lift up every person in need of physical healing to you. May your mighty and powerful healing hand reach down and touch and begin to bring restoration of health to each person with a need for healing. Give them peace as they rely on you to bring wholeness of body and help them to keep their faces turned toward you. May they believe that you can do the impossible in their lives.

Sweet Father, bless each person who reads here today. May they feel your sweet presence in their lives and may they be drawn close to your side. Minister to their hearts and minds and souls. Fill them with your sweet goodness and love. Help them to keep you first in their lives.

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. (John 20:31 KJV)

Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit, you are our Counselor and guide. Remind us of what Jesus taught, and teach us how to put those teachings into practice in our day-to-day. Convict us when we sin, and remind us whose children we are. Point us to Christ and bring glory to him. Amen

Luke 7:44-47 "Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman?  I came into your house.  You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.  You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet.  You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet.  Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven ~~for she loved much.  But he who has been forgiven little, loves little."

Lord Jesus, You did not come for people who insist they are good, but for people who know they are not.  Deliver me from self-righteousness.  Forgive me for being too stubborn to repent, too proud to fall at Your feet.  Help me to remember the depths from which You saved me.  Help me to remember that I am not worthy of Your grace.  May I never be a stumbling block for anyone who is reaching out for You.  And God, forbid that I should ever chase off the ones You came to save.  I love you.  Amen.

MARVELOUS

Psalm 139:13-14 (NLT)
     13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.

Father I marvel at your wonderful workmanship. There is nothing in all of creation that can match the beauty and delicacy of a baby. And Psalm 139:13-18 gives your view of this glorious and intimate process. Your love for us is not limited to our creation but extends to the whole of our life. “You gave me life and showed me your unfailing love. My life was preserved by your care.” Job 10:12 (NLT)

Father you wrap us in the warmth of your infinite love, you watch over us with the presence of your divine providence and you protect us in your arms of immeasurable power. You are our Father in heaven, our Shepherd on earth and our Savior throughout the endless ages.

Psalm 118:23 (ESV)
   23 This is the LORD's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.

Prayer for Colorado

Father, be with those who have been affected by the wildfires in Colorado. Many have lost homes and possessions, others have lost loved ones. We pray for comfort and strength, and for continued protection for those who have been spared so far. Bless the firefighters with strength and protection. We pray for more rain to help put the fires out. Amen

LORD I NEED YOUR WISDOM

Many times when my heart is heavy, I turn to the prayers of a saintly man who wrote the Diary of Private Prayer, John Baillie ~ published in 1941.

This is an excerpt that spoke my heart this morning.

" O Lord Jesus Christ, who didst bid Thy disciples to shine as lights in a dark world, in shame and condition of heart do I acknowledge before Thee the many faults and weaknesses of which we are guilty who in this generation represent Thy Church before the world, and especially do I acknowledge my own part in the same.

Forgive me I beseech Thee, the feebleness of my witness, the smallness of my charity, and the slackness of my zeal.  Make me to be a more worthy follower of Him who cared for the poor and the oppressed, and who could never see disease without seeking to heal it or any kind of human need without turning aside to help.

Let Thy power, O Christ, be in us all to share the world's suffering and redress its wrongs.  Amen.
Perhaps I was feeling this way because it's hard to know who and who not to help when so many people approach you for a handout.  Are they really in need?  Is it a scam?  Lord help me to know who to reach out to and those YOU would have me help and those I can not help and not feel guilty.

GOD IS GOOD

Father as I count the blessings you have so generously bestowed upon me it calls to mind Psalm 13:6 (NLT)
I will sing to the LORD because he is good to me.
Well, Father I can’t sing but I can shout………and that I do in making a joyful noise to you.

So many blessings Lord. But now, with our new grandson Tristan my joy knows no bounds. As the Angels sang at the birth of your Son so my family and friends sing at the birth of our grandson. For the health of our daughter Jill and the loving support of her husband Jaya we give double thanks.

Father as the scriptures says: “You are good to me.” Words cannot express the love and appreciation I have for you!  Praise the LORD!!!

dig deep!

Do you desire to have a dynamic prayer life? In order for this to happen there have to be some dynamic things happening in your relationship with Jesus. Our prayer lives will only be as powerful as our intimacy with God. Here are a few things that the Lord has shown me that will enrich your time with Him and enable your prayer life to take off to a new level.

*Read the Word until it comes alive. Read it until you feel the very breath of God on your skin.

* Mediate on the scripture daily. Don't just read it but dig deeper.

* Wrestle with what you have read and truly experience God.

* Delight in His presence!

* Cultivate a spirit of fervency in your quest to experience Him and His presence.

* Come before Him in silence. (Psalm 46:10)

Do you desire to encounter your Savior in a new way? Do you make a point to seek Him daily? If you are passionate about Him and really want to go deeper with Him, do these things. As you press in fully and bow your heart in desperation and sincerity, you will begin to see and hear the pulsating heart of our Almighty God.

Dig deep!

Father, we pray for those who have been affected by the recent storms in the middle of the country and on the east coast. Comfort those who have lost family members and friends. Bring healing to those who are injured, and strength to those who have to rebuild homes and replace possessions. Protect them as they try and put their lives back together. Amen

Proverbs 4:18 "The Path of righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shinning ever brighter till the full light of day."

Thank you, Lord, for Your light of truth that makes my way both safe and pleasant.  With the light of Your presence You warm my heart.  With the light of Your wisdom, You enlighten my mind.  With the light of Your Word You illuminate my path.  How I long for the full light of that great and glorious Day when we Your people, will reach our destination around Your throne.  There we will not need the light of lamp or the light of the sun, for You, O Lord, will give us light and we will reign with You forever and ever.  We love and worship you, Lord.  Amen.

In this world of corruption and evil, don't you long for this glorious Day?  I do.  But in the meantime, we are called to be faithful, and watchful and prayerful.

The Invitation

Psalm 27:8 (NLT)
   My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “LORD, I am coming.”

I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses.
He speaks, and the sound of His voice,
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing,
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing.

And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.
(I Come to the Garden Alone -  Words: C. Austin Miles)

Thank you, LORD, for the invitation to such a sweet encounter with you.  Thank you also for the soothing lyrics of this sacred song that expresses the gentleness of your voice.

Prayer for Guidance

Father, sometimes the way is not very clear. You say move forward, but it's hard to know where forward goes. The unknown lies ahead, and it's a bit frightening. Help me to trust and follow you wherever you lead. Amen

MORE DISASTERS ~ MORE PRAYERS

Our hearts and prayers go out to the families again hit with deadly Tornado's.  Disaster has a way of bringing us to our knees, with hearts heavy, and few words as we hardly know how to pray.  At these times we can depend on the Holy Spirit to read our hearts and minds and send our heartfelt groans to the Father in Heaven.

Lord, that is what we do this day.  We cry out for help from the Holy Spirit to convey to the Father what we feel for those suffering so deeply in Oklahoma.  Bring healing and comfort to those hurting so much.  Ease there pain, and give them a ray of hope for the future.  Please be with the families that have suffered the biggest sacrifice with the loss of loved ones.  We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and with the help of the Holy Spirit, our Helper.  Amen.
