He has heard

"...for the LORD has heard my weeping.
The LORD has heard my cry for mercy;
the LORD accepts my prayer."
(Psalm 6:8,9)

In our desperation, we can have confidence in our LORD. This passage clearly shows us that God hears the sound of our weeping. He hears our plea for mercy. Our God listens for our voice and in His unlimited and unfathomable compassion for us He responds to our deepest need.

We serve an attentive God. We don't have to be afraid. We don't have to cry out in vain. We can know that the One who created us hears our cry and accepts our prayer.

Hallelujah! He is our refuge. Our strong tower. And in Him we can place our trust.

Forgiveness

Father,

Help Your people to be those who forgive. Help us not to be bitter or harbor grudges. Help us to do this not only individually but corporately.  Help us to see those who disagree with us not as our enemies, but as people made in God's image who need to be introduced to Him. Take away our anger on the individual and corporate levels. Help us to  remember how much You have forgiven us and to treat others the same way.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen

A Prayer for Graduates

A prayer for graduates based on the words of wisdom and admonition from King David to his son Solomon: “And Solomon, my son, learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. For the LORD sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek him, you will find him. But if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. 10 So take this seriously……” 1 Chron. 28:9-10 (NLT)

Father for the graduates of 2017 as they continue life’s incredible journey.

I Pray they will understand life’s greatest discovery - “Know God intimately.”

I pray they will seize Life’s greatest adventure - “Worship and serve Him.”

I pray they will sense Life’s greatest awareness - “The Lord sees and knows you.”

I pray they will achieve Life’s greatest goal: “Seek Him and find Him.”

I pray they will fear Life’s greatest danger - “If you forsake Him, He will reject you forever.”

I pray they will maximize Life greatest priority - “Take this seriously.”

In praying for these graduating young people Father I ask for grace, mercy and peace on them. Guide them in their pursuit of life and may they achieve your purpose for them. In name of Jesus who achieved your purpose in his life. Amen

Your Guidance

Dear Abba Father,
This is your day,
I am your child,
Show me your way.

“Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
Remember, LORD, your great mercy and love,
for they are from of old.
Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways;
according to your love remember me, for you, LORD, are good.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭25:4-7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Open the eyes of my heart that I can see wonderful things from your Word and know your will.
Engrave it on my heart. Soften my heart, Father, as I hear from your Word. Open my eyes to understand.

Come, Holy Spirit, as I seek to understand the Truth of your Word. Sanctify me by Your truth.
Help me, Lord, to encounter You, and with renewed conviction and assurance, introduce myself as one of Yours. Amen

Kindness

Father,

Help Your people to react with kindness. Even to to those whose beliefs and lifestyles we disagree with. Help us find ways to show kindness without compromising our principles. Help us lay aside our self-righteousness and remember we are sinners saved by grace. Help us look on others with Your kindness and compassion. Help us lead them to You, the fountain of kindness and compassion.

Be Thou My Vision

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art

High King of Heaven, my victory won
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heav’n’s Sun
Heart of my own heart, whate’er befall
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all

THE PRECIOUS WORD OF GOD

The precious words of God revealed in his Holy Word.

Isaiah 55:11  "So is my word that goes out from my mouth;  It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it."

Your Word is alive and creative, Lord.  Like rain and snow, it goes forth from You in productive power, fulfills its destiny and return to You again overflowing with its harvest: the high praises of Your people whom You save, deliver and bless,  Drench us, Father, in your Word.  Nurture us in its instruction and power so that we can discern Your will for our lives.  I love You.  Amen.

"God did not write a book and send it by messenger to be read at a distance by unaided minds.  He spoke a book and lives in his spoken words, constantly speaking his words and causing the power of them to persist across the years."  ~~A.W. Tozer (1897-1963)

A Road call Mercy and a Lane called Grace

Exodus 34:6 (ESV)
”The LORD passed before him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious…”

Hebrews 4:16 (NLT)
”So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”

Well Father if there is any corner I would want to park my car it is on the corner of Mercy and Grace. And Father how wonderful it is that You have invited us to come into your presence as the Apostle Paul wrote: “Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.” Ephesians 3:12 (NLT)

So Father, we do come boldly with confidence and the assurance of your love and acceptance through faith in Christ our Savior. And we can come with our faults and failures, with our hurts and needs, with our questions and uncertainties, and with our praise and worship. We come to You our gracious and merciful God whom we have the privilege to call Father.

We love you Father and thank you for your faithful, unconditional and eternal love for us so beautifully portrayed in your mercy and grace.

In Jesus name who is the way, the truth and the life. Amen

He's Watching Over His Own

“The Lord watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love. ... We put our hope in the Lord. He is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in you alone.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭33:18, 20-22‬ ‭NLT‬‬

How awesome to know that You Lord, Almighty God, with Your infinite power and glory, are watching us from heaven, filled with love and always attentive to our needs. Your Word says that the eyes of the LORD search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. Your love is greater than we could ever fathom and we give You thanks for Your unfailing love. Help us to rejoice in and rest in that enough not to worry.

Our hearts grieve with the people of New York City, for the families of those who have suffered tragedy at the hands of evil, and for those who have suffered as a result of tornadoes and storms this week. We ask that You would be their Comforter, that You would cover them with your grace and mercy, surrounding them in peace during this time. We pray that people would come to know You are our only hope in the midst of any tragedy and that they would run to You and not away from You in times of trouble. May they come to know the Name of the Lord is a strong tower, a shelter, and a refuge in times of trouble. Amen

for guidance when life is challenging

Lord, I’m here today with open hands and an open heart,
ready to depend on you to help me through the day and all it will bring my way.

Help me be like Nehemiah,
help me come to you for guidance, strength, provision and protection.

As I face tough choices and hard situations,
help me remember my belovedness,
help me remember that I am Your child
and Your representative to the world around me.

Help me live today in a way that brings honor to Your holy name.

Never unheard

"I call on you, my God, for you will answer me;
turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.
Show me the wonders of your great love...."
(Psalm 17:6,7)
I am so thankful that we have a God who hears us! Over and over in His Word, we are assured of this fact. When we cry out, He hears. When we call on His name, He will respond. He cares about all the details of our lives and our prayers don't go unnoticed or unheard by our LORD.

That alone should bring us great joy. Great hope. That alone should fill us with such expectation that we eagerly fall on our faces before Him in sweet anticipation of His voice to our spirits.

He will show us the wonders of His love. Every time.

He is a God who hears us....

Humility

Father,

Give us humility. Not the attitude of constantly  putting ourselves down. But the ability to see ourselves in perspective. Help us remember that every good thing we have comes from You. And help us also remember that we were sinners heading for judgment when You redeemed us. Help us to honestly evaluate what our gifts are. And help us find ways to use them in your service. Not to exalt ourselves or impress others. But that we may realistically further Your purposes in our life.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen

Lord today, bless all the mothers who nurture and love their children.  Bless those mothers who do not have lost children.  Bless mother's that live and teach your world by example.

Thank you for giving me that kind of mother.  Miss her everyday, but know she's in your presence and enjoying heaven.

Mother

Father as I think about this Mother’s Day Week end, there are four women, mothers, who have had extraordinarily significant influence to in my life.

First, Eve, the mother of all who live.

Genesis 3:20 (NLT)
Then the man—Adam—named his wife Eve, because she would be the mother of all who live.

Second, Mary the mother of the Lord of life.

Luke 1:42-43 (NLT)
Elizabeth gave a glad cry and exclaimed to Mary, “….. 43 Why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should visit me?

Third, Lela Frankie Stanfill Slaven, my mother, who gave me life.

Fourth, Wanda Dill Slaven, who is the mother of our four children and gave them life.

Father, thank you for these women who were uniquely fashioned by you and have made my life possible and purposeful. And I thank you Father that on Mother’s Day we may once again acknowledge the virtue and value you place on motherhood.

For our Mothers we give you thanks in Jesus name.

Amen

Never Give Up

“...Never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭4:16-18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

No matter how things are going at present, we keep praying and don't give up, as Jesus taught.

Father, open my eyes to see things as they are. Strengthen my heart to pray and not give up, until the world of the seen has passed away and the kingdom of Heaven is here to stay. Come, Lord Jesus. Amen.

Love

 Father,

Help Your people to be those who express Your love. Help us to reach out to those in need, those who are broken and hurting. Help us  to see how, without  compromising Your principles, to help all those in need and lead them to You, the fountain of all life. May we reflect your sacrificial love to a needy world. And may we do so even to the hateful and unlovely.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen

Good Shepherd

O God,

whose Son Jesus is the good shepherd of your people:

Grant that when we hear his voice we may know him who calls us each by name,

and follow where he leads;

who, with you and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns,

one God, for ever and ever.

I AM CONTENT...

"I am content, O Father, to leave my life in Thy hands, believing that the very hairs on my head are numbered by Thee.  I am content to give over my will to Thy control, believing that I can find in Thee a righteousness that I could never have won for myself.  I am content to leave all my dear ones to Thy care, believing that Thy love for them is greater than my own.  I am content to leave in Thy hands the causes of truth and of justice, and the coming of Thy Kingdom in the hearts of men, believing that my ardour for them is but a feeble shadow of Thy purpose.  To Three, O God, be glory forever.  Amen."

This old style of speaking is so different to the way we communicate today, but I've been blessed for too many years to remember by this small but powerful Prayer Book ~ A Diary of Private Prayer by John Baillie.  It's been my daily prayer journal, and I'm now on my 4th book (Amazon used books) and since they have a blank page on each day, they are filled with my heartfelt prayers and hopefully the legacy to leave to my family.

I Will Remember You!!!

Psalm 42:4 (NLT)
My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration!

I remember how it used to be…..”

Father thank you for memories of worshiping You which were so filled with joy, gratitude and celebration. They were and are highlights of life that provide lasting encouragement and hope. Remembering family and friends as we shared together in singing, praying, listening to your Word and greeting each other with love and deep affection.

It reminds me of the model of celebration in heaven: “….you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to countless thousands of angels in a joyful gathering. 23 You have come to the assembly of God’s firstborn children, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God himself, who is the judge over all things. You have come to the spirits of the righteous ones in heaven who have now been made perfect. “Hebrews 12:22-23 (NLT)

Father when I think of what worshipping You has meant to me and the effect of celebrating Your love, grace, and mercy, it is at times overwhelming. I never want to stay in a place of “I remember how it used to be…..” but rather to remember the Psalmist when he said: “Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again my Savior and my God! Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember you…”  Psalm 42:5-6 (NLT)

Yes Father, I will remember You!!!
Amen

God of Wisdom

Our Father, we praise You that You are the Source of all wisdom and knowledge. We ask that You would give us complete knowledge of Your will and spiritual wisdom and understanding. We desire to live lives that will always honor and please You, and thus produce every kind of good fruit.

We will grow as we learn to know You better and better. We also pray that we will be strengthened with all Your glorious power so we will have all the endurance and patience we need. May we be filled with joy, always thanking You, our Father who has enabled us to share in the inheritance that belongs to Your people, who live in the light, and let Your light shine through us.

Prayer for the Rulers of the Nations

Today, O God. I hold before you the rulers of the nations —
Kings, Queens, Presidents, Prime Ministers — all who
are in positions of supreme leadership.

I can be quick to criticize: help me, Lord to first enter
their dilemma. On most issues of state I have the luxury
of withholding judgment, of not committing myself,
of sitting on the fence. Even when I have an opinion,
it has little influence and seldom any consequence.
Not so with rulers of the nations.
To the extent that they really lead, they must
make decisions, even if they are poor ones.

Help these leaders, O God, in the loneliness of their decisions.
Put wise counselors around them.

Take, I pray, the bits and pieces of virtue that are
in each ruler and cause them to grow and mature.
And take all the destructive motives and cause
them to vanish like smoke in the wind.

Lord, I know that many — and perhaps most —
rulers do not know you, nor do they seek you.
But you seek them! Help them see how good right decisions are.
And where decisions must be made that are not in their
own interest, deepen their sense of duty. Having seen
the light, give them the courage to walk in the light.

Amen.

Today Oh, LORD, bring comfort to those in affliction. Bring peace to hurting hearts. Anoint the sick with your healing power and fill the hopeless with your unfailing love. Fill us to overflowing with the goodness and mercy that keeps us strengthened in you.

Faith

Father,

Help us to trust You even when the world around us seems dark. Help us to believe Your promises even when there is no sign of them having an impact in our life. Help us to wait on You, for Your timing and Your plan, even if it is not our timing and our plan. Help us not to trust in other things in our life to help us without You, but to put our ultimate faith in You alone.
