our saving and wonderous God

Saving and wondrous God,

In the time You walked upon this earth, and in Your time became one of us to show us what we need:

A Rescuer.
A Redeemer.
 A Friend.
A King.

Your Son came near
and Your Holy Spirit remains,
 revealing to us that You
are the center of all things.

Remind us always,
in times of plenty
and in times of famine,
that at the center of all things
is Your mercy.

There is a transformation that takes place within the warmth of Your embrace.

We acknowledge that You are our refuge,
shelter,
fortress
and stronghold,

against which no army can succeed.

You give a love that knows no bounds.
You reveal Your power that knows no limit.
You give us Your presence that provides all comfort.
You show us Your goodness that understands our weakness.
You have immanence that teaches us we are protected.
You show justice that never changes.
You show a mercy that is undeserved.

You are the center of all things.

JESUS LOVER OF MY SOUL

Jesus, lover of my soul
Let me to Thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll,
Whille the tempest still is high,
Hide me, O my Savior, hide:
Till the storm of life is past;
Safe into the haven guide,
O receive my soul at last!
~Charles Wesley (1740)

Dear Gracious Heavenly Father, Lover of my soul.  How you gifted Charles Wesley to pen the words of our hearts.  When trouble comes, and the waves are spashing around us,  When we feel lost and alone, help us to "fly to Your bosom" for comfort, to feel Your mighty arms around us, where we feel no fear or harm.  Father we pray today for all our family members and friends that need to find solace in your love, forgiveness and salvation.  I love You.  Amen

The Joy of Forgiving Others

Genesis 50:15-21 (ESV)
15 When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “It may be that Joseph will hate us and pay us back for all the evil that we did to him.” 16 So they sent a message to Joseph, saying, “Your father gave this command before he died: 17 ‘Say to Joseph, “Please forgive the transgression of your brothers and their sin, because they did evil to you.”’ And now, please forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of your father.” Joseph wept when they spoke to him. 18 His brothers also came and fell down before him and said, “Behold, we are your servants.”

19 But Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? 20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. 21 So do not fear; I will provide for you and your little ones.” Thus he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.

Heavenly Father, thank you for this gracious example of human forgiveness that comes from Joseph's understanding of Devine forgiveness based on your mercy and providence.  Having forgiven us, you enable us to forgives others their sins against us.

Colossians 3:12-13 (NIV)
12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Thank you Father for the joy of a pure heart and the tranquility of a peaceful  mind that comes from the merciful kindness of your forgiveness of us and our forgiveness of others.
In the name of Jesus through whom all forgiveness comes. Amen.

help me to joyfully persevere

Lord, help me to remember that You are my friend.
No matter what comes my way, You are with me.

I know that you cause all things to work for good.
Help me to trust that you are at work in my life.

Open the eyes of my heart that I might see You.
And cause me Lord to joyfully persevere in hope.

waiting after we pray

When I think about this verse from Psalms, pictured to the right, I remember that:

Faith is what we need when we pray.
Trust is what we need when we wait
           for the answer to prayer.

It is difficult to wait Lord. Help us to trust you after we have prayed and know that you care.

LORD, help us all to have HOPE in every situation. Every trial. Every circumstance.

for longing

Blessed by the longing that brought you here
And quickens your soul with wonder.

May you have the courage to listen to the voice of desire
That disturbs you when you have settled for something safe.

May you have the wisdom to generously into your own unease
To discover the new direction your longing wants you to take.

May the forms of your belonging - in love, creativity, and friendship -
Be equal to the grandeur and the call of your soul.

May your dreams gradually reveal the destination of your desire.

May your mind inhabit your life with the sureness
with which your body inhabits the world.

Amen

Amazing Forgiveness

"He forgives all my sins....."  Psalm 103:3 (NLT)

Ephesians 1:7 (NLT)
"He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins."

Dear Father the wonder and infinite breadth of YOUR grace is the  forgiveness of all of our sin.

Father the depth of your love, Lord Jesus the extent of your sacrifice, and Holy Spirit the reach of your mercy rescues, redeems and reconciles me into an eternal relationship with you through faith.

Thank you Father for Ephesians 2:4-5 & 8 (NLT)
4 ..... "God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 8 God saved you by his grace when you believed...."

Dear Triune God, thank You that all of my sins are forgiven through Your grace and simply believing in YOU.

A wonderful reminder: "Grace Greater Than Our Sin" Lyrics by Julia H. Johnston,

Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace,
Freely bestowed on all who believe!

Amen!!!

for those who suffer in prison

We pray, our Father, for those whose freedom has been taken from them:
for all whose vision of your world is seen through bars, and in whose heart the lamp of hope burns low;
for all who suffer imprisonment, whether for crime or for conscience' sake.
God of mercy, give them help, according to their need, and hear our prayer for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen

as we wait

Sometimes the pictured verse renders 'wait' as 'hope. Both seem to communicate the idea that faith involves patience. With that in mind let pray.

We ask dear faith that you would open our inner eyes to see what you are doing in our lives. We pray that hope would arise as we wait and as we persevere.

In all times, teach us to seek you as we wait and as we hope. Help our lives to be pleasing to you and cause patience to grow in our hearts. Amen.

Trust and Rely

Proverbs 3:5-6 is a beautiful passage.

And it is so vital to our hearts during times of trials and testing.

“Trust in and rely confidently on the LORD with all your heart. And do not rely on your own insight or understanding.” (Verse 5, AMP)

Trusting in God is a conscious dependence on Him. We rely on Him for support. For guidance. For direction. For everything…

We can’t rely on our own understanding. Our own insight. Our own anything…

My prayer for all of us today is that we will begin to completely and totally place our TRUST in Christ. Completely and totally RELY on Him in every aspect of our lives.

I pray that as we release what control we thought we had, that we will begin to see that His control is the only one that will truly lead us and sustain us through the journey of life. He will make our paths straight..

Amen

strength and provison

Heavenly Father,

We lift up your Name today. You are the Lord of lords, the Most High God. You are the God of Peace, our Shepherd, and the God who provides. May your Name be exalted.

We also know that you are the God of power and strength. And we sometimes struggle to feel your power and strength. Our hearts are broken, our bodies weary, and souls hurt. We struggle to find hope in the world without it. We struggle to find strength within ourselves.

But we know, O God, that you are the one who gives us strength. When we are weary, you provide. When we look to the world for hope, it will fail us. Yet we can always find hope in you.

We praise your Name, Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord who provides. Please give us strength for
our weary souls.

Amen

THE GOOD SHEPHERD

John 10:11  "I am the good shepherd, the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep."

How tenderly you care for me, Jesus, my Shepherd!  When I hear Your reassuring voice I know that I am secure.  When I wander far away You search for me.  And when You find me, You hoist me upon Your strong shoulders; rejoicing that I have been found.  You are the gate that lead to the fold of salvation.  You are the fold in which I find safety.  When I am in danger, You lay down your own life for me.  You give me the gift of life, life to the full.  Oh to know You, gracious Shepherd and to be known by You ~~this is true life!  I love You.  Amen

OH!!!!

Father thank you for the "OH" in Scripture that emphasis and exclaims the greatness and wonder of you love for us. It is the "OH" of magnificence, inspiration, and supernatural. It is beyond measure but not experience. It is an exuberant expression of your glory.

1 Chronicles 16:34 (ESV)
Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!

Psalm 34:8-9 (ESV)
Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
9 Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack!

Psalm 34:3 (ESV)
Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together!

Yes, indeed, Father we want to exalt your Name in gratitude and worship for your graciousness, goodness, mercy, love and kindness. Father we praise you for your excellence, perfection, and personal care, in Jesus Name! Amen.

God's story, our story

Father,

You have written us into Your story with great purpose and delight. You design us with intentionality, knowing each step we will take, and weaving together relationships, seasons of life, challenges, and celebrations, giving us a narrative the glorifies You.

Help us seek to understand and accept when our story is hard, when it doesn't go how we expected, and when You take us on a path we don't want to go on. Show us how You are with us and the work You are doing... and to understand how sin affects us and the world. Teach us to not be afraid of the mystery behind how Your will works within a flawed and marred system that we have created due to sin.

Forgive us, Lord, when we clamor for instant solutions to our problems and try to figure out our future on our own. You understand what we do not. You have revealed what we need to know to face the future with faith. Give us Your perspective and peace and teach us to trust You with our unanswered questions.

Remind us that You write our story and no one else.

Amen

BLESS THE LORD, OH MY SOUL

Dear Father, It is good to be in the house of the Lord.  I pray for all those who will join together today to rejoice in song, listen to God Word preached, fellowship with other believers.  How good is it to be back in church worshiping our Lord and Savior.

I pray for all the Bible preaching Pastors around the world that are sharing the Gospel.  I pray many will hear, repent of their sins, and be cleansed and receive eternal life.  God is so good, so merciful, so loving.  Bless the Lord, Oh my soul, and all that is within me praise His Holy Name.  I love You.  Amen.

The Glory of God

1 Corinthians 10:31 (ESV)
"....whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."

"The Westminster Shorter Catechism asks the question, “What is the chief end of man?” Many of us know the answer. “Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.” While this is not a phrase drawn directly from Scripture, the wisdom behind it surely is. The Bible tells us with great clarity that man was created in order to bring glory to God. Thus the chief end of Christians and of the church is to bring glory to God. There is no higher calling."  Tim Challies
Psalm 145:5 (ESV)

On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. Heavenly Father when I consider, contemplate and concentrate on Your Glory it is overwhelming. You reveal your glory in Your character as Holy, Love and Truth.  In creation it is revealed in your wisdom, power and imagination. I see Your glory in the beauty of a butterfly, the immensity of a galaxy, in the  forgiveness of repentant sinner. I see Your glory in the fruit of the Spirit demonstrated in the lives of your people
Father: "My mouth is filled with your praise, and with your glory all the day." Psalm 71:8 (ESV)

I will sing "You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created."   Rev. 4:11(NRSV)

Amen!!!

when life doesn't make sense

Lord, there are a lot of times when we get into life situations which we don’t understand.

Why did this happen to me?

That’s when we just say, “Lord, it doesn’t matter. I may not understand it, but I’m all Yours and I’m going to trust in You. Even though I don’t understand why I’m going through this or fully appreciate what I’m going through, Lord, I know that You have my best interest at heart, and I’m all in with You.”

Help us have that simple faith—powerful faith—that You’ll use us wherever You send us. Help us to grow and to live by faith. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

for a grieving heart

The patriarch Job lost 10 children in one day.

His story is a tale of deep grief and sorrow.

He spoke of wishing he had never been born.

He debated with friends about "Why".

In all this it is written that he did not sin.

Lord help us to know that it is ok to grieve.

Give us peace in midst turmoil and anger.

Send friends who will comfort and encourage.

Make us aware of those hurting among us.

Bring hope to us as our heart grieves.

Amen

may i listen

Father,

In the silence, please speak.

In the noise, teach me to listen.

When I hear words, teach me to know
the word that are Yours
the words that are mine
the words that are the enemy's

so that I may do Your will
and no one else's.

Where there are obstacles,
help me see Your power to overcome.

Where there is hurt,
please heal,

Where there is sin,
convict my heart to turn.

Where there is need in others,
move my eyes to see and my hands to act.

Where there is something to learn,
move my mind to pursue it.

Where there is shame,
show me who I am in You.

But most of all,
in the silence
as you speak

help me listen.

Amen
