From the Sheep

Good Shepherd, you have laid down your life for your sheep. You lead us and provide for us. There is nothing that we lack. Help us to hear your voice and follow you. Amen

TWO- EDGED SWORD

"Once you and I are face to face with the Word of God ...we can only accept or reject it.  Jesus becomes the two-edged sword that cuts right down the middle, dividing us into believers and nonbelievers."  ~John Powell (1927-)

John 1:1-5  Tells us who Jesus is!  "In the beginning was the WORD, and the WORD was with God, and the WORD was God,  He was with God in the beginning.  Through HIM all things were made; without HIM nothing was made that has been made.  In HIM was life, and that life was the light of men.  The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it."

Dear Father, how thankful we are for your Son, Jesus who is the Living Word.  Thank you for the Word of God that is a two-edged sword diving what is truth and what is not.  Lord, keep us in your WORD daily so we can hear your voice and will.  We love you.  Amen.

Praying for our Grandchildlren

Dear Lord, you have blessed my dearest and me with 9 grandchildren, and 2 great grandsons, and each day as I see our world becoming more and more corrupt, moral values forgotten, and the programs on TV and the movies in the Theatre seem to encourage bad habits, and behavior.  Lord, most of our grandchildren at at a vulnerable age, Junior High, High School and college.  I pray for these dear children and young adults, and ask that your surround them with our protection, love and mercy.  I pray they embrace you in their life style, and choices.  Father, I know you love these dear ones more than I can, and I know how much I love them.  Hold them in your Mighty Strong Arms Lord, and keep them out of harm way.  In you Precious Name, Jesus Christ.  Amen!

I know many of you are parents, grandparents and this prayer is for all those children God has placed in our life and care.

Please pray for Morgan

Morgan, the 14year old son of my blogging friend Shane, was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma on March 1, 2012 after many weeks of swollen lymph nodes on the left side of his neck. He has been through chemotherapy since then and is currently in the hospital going through a five day infusion of chemo. Here is quote from Cheryl, Morgan's mom, that says it all:
What's going on is scary but we keep holding onto Jesus and walking one step at a time.
Lord, we join with our brother and sister in Christ in asking for peace in this tempestuous storm that they are living through. With them we hold onto Jesus, the one who calms the storm and has the authority over lymphoma. We ask that the wisdom and peace of the Holy Spirit would be given liberally to doctors, nurses and family members. We call on you Lord for Morgan with all of our hearts as we intercede in the name of Jesus.

House of Prayer

"It is written", He said to them, "My House will
be called a house of prayer"
(Matthew 21:13)

Father God, may we never forget that YOUR House is to be a house of prayer. Prayer is not a guest there. It belongs there! The most important thing we can do in YOUR house is pray. Because if we do that, the Holy Spirit will descend and worship will ensue and then we will have CHURCH!! May we never neglect sweet communion with our Lord and our Master and our Savior. And may we bring you glory and honor and praise all the days of our lives.

Martin Luther is so good at cutting right to the chase with his words, his teaching, his prayers. Here is prayer #121 from a collection entitled Luther's Prayers.

FOR HELP IN KEEPING THE COMMANDMENTS

"Lord God, I have indeed transgressed your commandments. I have been impatient in reverses and trials. I am unsympathetic and unmerciful. I do not help my neighbor. I am unable to resist sin. I do not tire of doing wrong. Dear Lord, pour out your grace to me and give me your Holy Spirit so that I may be obedient and keep each of your commandments. Help me to be at odds with the world and to give my heart and soul to you. Amen ."

There is no place like HOME!

With Easter behind us, the ascension of Jesus Christ points our hearts upward with hope and confidence!  His return to the Father prepares the way for our eternal home and for His imminent return.  As Christ returned to the Father, He was going home ~~ but, at least in part, He was going home to prepare a new and eternal home for us!

"Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me.  In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.  If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also."  (John 14:1-3)

Coming Christ, how grateful I am for Your promised return.  How thankful I am that eternity awaits.  How thankful I am for the perfect plan of the Father, the perfect accomplishment of the Son, and the perfect provision of the Spirit.  Help me to be faithful to You as I await Your return.  Even so, come quickly, Lord Jesus.  Amen.

Bring Them Home

I remember when the Lord answered months and months of prayer and brought my son home from the battle fields of Iraq. I dedicate this song to the families of those men and women who serve the cause of peace and freedom in foreign lands. As you listen to the song please join me in our prayer for the troops who give so much.

Teach us Lord

Our precious Father and Healer, I lift up every person in need to your mighty throne of Grace today. Minister to their hearts. Touch their bodies. Soothe their weary spirits. And most of all, make yourself known to them today in a very tangible way. May they see you and feel you and get a taste of the HOPE that only comes from a life that is focused on You.  You are the WAY. You are the TRUTH and You are the LIFE. Thank you for being that in my life sweet Jesus.  I love you and give you praise and honor today.

I continue to be captured by the prayers, from Scripture as well as other sources, from Kurt Bjorklund's Prayers for Today. This one, which invites personal interaction, is from Day 13:

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father, thank You for caring about me personally in all the details of my life.
I affirm that there is nothing in my life that You do not care about. You care about...

I affirm that the basis of Your love of me is in Your character, not my performance.
I affirm that You have been good to me in so many ways, such as...

You have called me Your child. You are my heavenly Father;
I affirm that worry is pointless and an expression of doubt.

Amen."

IT DOESN'T END WITH THE RESURRECTION

"Because you have seen Me, have you believed?  Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed"  (John 20:29)
"So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ (Romans 10:17)

We have heard, and we have believed.  But it mustn't end there.  As the pair on the Emmaus Road experienced the faith of a burning heart, we too must burn with passion to know Him ~ the very passion of the apostle Paul, who wrote that his life's goal was, "that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death." (Philippians 3:10)

What a special time I've had reading words and thoughts from Bill Crowder this Easter Season.  I pray that we might have that same desire burn in our hearts as well, that we might truly know the One who loved us and gave himself for us.

Dear Lord, may my passion burn within me as I desire to know you better, and from living in Your Word every day.  I love You!  Amen

I will wait...

"Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me" (Micah 7:7)

Thank you, Lord, for your sweetness. You hear us and for that we are eternally grateful. You are mighty and powerful and we bless your holy Name! Do your thing our God in the lives of all who need a touch. We give you all praise and all glory!

Amen

Lord Jesus, as we remember the week leading up to your crucifixion, renew in us a sense of wonder and gratitude at the great love you have shown us. As you loved us enough to lay down your life for us, help us to love others enough to lay down our lives for them. Amen

The Wondrous Cross

As I continue my journey through the book "The PATH of His Passion, I am overwhelmed once again at the magnitude of MY sin, and the love of my Savior.  Calvary was a mockery, as people passing by, the so-called religious leaders, the Roman soldiers, all hurling words of sarcasm and hate, mocking the King of Kings.  Tears flow as I read, and then the chapter closes with this prayer.  I will pray it again, and again.  Will you join me?

"Holy God, what a price You paid to redeem my heart!  Loving Christ, what a sacrifice You made to forgive my sins! Precious Spirit, what a gift You gave to inhabit my life!  Teach me the joy of a heart that worships You with this passion. ~~"Were the whole realm of nature mine, That ere a present far too small: Love so amazing, so divine, demands my sou, my life my all"  Dear God, help me to know it and to live it ~~by the grace of Your wonderful cross.  In the name of the One who love me enough to take my cross.  Amen."

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.

See, from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down,
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?"
