Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Yet...

The Prayer of Habakkuk is powerful.  It speaks of being triumphant no matter the circumstances. No matter the trials you are facing. Even if there is no food. No water.  No evident hope.  His words speak of where our hearts and minds must abide.

"Yet....I will triumph in Yahweh. I will rejoice
in the God of my salvation!
Yahweh my LORD is my strength;
He makes my feet like those of a deer
and enables me to walk
on mountain heights."
(Habakkuk 3:18,19) HCSB

Truly, our strength comes from our God. He is mighty and He is powerful and He is where our hope is found. Trust in Him. Lean on Him. Triumph in His Strength and rejoice in His sufficient mercy and grace in our lives! When all else seems lost, look up!

Unearthing the Past

Satan is an archeologist. He likes to dig up things in our past and flaunt them in our face. Not only our past sins, but even our past failures, dubious decisions, and missed opportunities.

Father,

Help us to put the past behind us. If there are things we need to repent of or to make right, help us to do that. If there are different decisions or changes of direction or honest reevaluations of our abilities we need to make while going forward, help us to see that. But help us take the rest of the past and commit it to You and to Your grace. Help us not to be held back by our past from doing what You want us to do today. Give us the courage to leave the past behind and to embrace the future with confidence not in ourselves, but in You.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen

FRIEND OF JESUS

O Jesus, I have no other friend like You.  In times of trial You are always there.  You always hear the unspoken longings o my heart.  You have hidden nothing of Your Father's truth.  Everything I need o know You have revealed.   You have loved me with an unsurpassable  love.  You have given Your life for me, choosing by grace to call me Your friend.  Help me, dearest friend, to love as You have loved and to live as You have lived.  Help me to trust You enough to do all that your command.  I love You.  Amen.

The Audacity of Persistent Prayer

“Once Jesus was in a certain place praying. As he finished, one of his disciples came to him and said, “Lord, teach us to pray…….” Luke 11:1 (NLT)

Father one of the aspects of prayer we may often overlook is the persistence of prayer Jesus spoke of in verse 8  “…..if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence. Luke 11:8 (NLT)

Father as exemplified in this story the reluctance is not from You but our own timidity in not boldly coming before the You.  I am reminded of Abraham’s persistent courage as he stood before You: Genesis 18:29 (NLT)   “Then Abraham pressed his request further. “Suppose….…”  Six times Abraham pursued his request with a persevering “suppose.” This was not an attempt to overcome Your will, but to demonstrate his concern and compassion for his nephew Lot.

Father help us to be as unrelenting in our prayers for those we love and for which we have such great concern. We may not always get the answer we want but we will get the grace we need. The Apostle Paul said: “Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians 12:8-9 (NIV)

Father our joy is in Your wisdom and will and with that we will be content. But may we ever be bold, courageous and shamelessly persistent as we come before You in prayer. For Your glory and honor in all things we ask, seek, and knock. Amen.

Hebrews 4:16 (NLT)
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

Making the Right Decision

Wonderful God, you are good,
You have shown your great love
in each work you've done.
Thank you for making us
with many unique capabilities
with the ability to speak and give honor to you
with everything we say,
for the privilege of thinking and doing things.

At this time I pray that in your power
you give my life understanding and direction
in how to make the right decisions,
everything is in your hands first
and I trust the doors will be opened
according to your perfect will.

We can make plans
but you, my Lord is the one who leads us
for your right ways and welfare,
I beg you to show me your way,
you're with me as I go,
please, may you remove all fear of my life,
I can get on with your strength and courage.

Amen

Fear

We live in  perilous times. But sometimes the actual danger itself is not as bad as the fear it produces.

Father,

I pray for your people, that we may trust in You and not be dominated by fear. Help us to not to pick up the infection of the people around us, but to remember that You are mighty and able to bring us through. Help us to encourage others taking proper precautions but not to panic and to help others who do.

Let Us Love

Father, the enemy of our souls would have us destroy one another in the name of ideological loyalty. Help us to remember that our chief loyalty is to the King of Kings and that all those who follow Him are our brothers and sisters. Let us treat one another with love and grace. Amen

FATHER'S DAY PRAYER

Dear Lord, once a year we pause to celebrate Father's Day.  Presents are bought, cards are sent, dinners are prepared because we want to say Thank You, for the love and provisions our earthly fathers have provided for us.

Lord there are many who do not have a loving father, or even a father they know at all.  My heart goes out to those today who feel lonely because they do not have an earthly father to celebrate.

The Bible tells us our Heavenly Father will be a loving and kind father to the fatherless.  Today, I pray that those of us who know the Heavenly Father personally, through His son, Jesus Christ, will reach out to those who are less fortunate.  May our love and kindness break the bonds of loneliness and build a bridge to the fatherless.

Lord give me an opportunity today to say a word of encouragement to a Father.  To the father of my children and my son and son in laws and grandsons who are called "Father".

We are very thankful for those men who have guided and provided for us.  We love you Father,  Amen.

A Father’s Greatest Legacy

Psalm 22:4-5 (NIV)
4 In You our fathers put their trust; they trusted and You delivered them. 5 They cried to You and were saved; in You they trusted and were not disappointed.

Father there many lessons to be learned in life, but none of greater value, than learning to trust in You. That is why the greatest legacy a father can leave his children is what it means to trust You. There is hardly a day that passes in which this benefit will not be immeasurably helpful to them.

In life’s bewildering experiences Jesus said: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.” John 14:1 (NIV)

Father it is through trusting in You that our children will have peace in the storm, hope in the future and strength to endure. Then they will have confidence in your promise: 2 When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. 3 For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior….” Isaiah 43:2-3 (NLT)

Father, if our children will embrace this trust in You they will experience the reality of Isaiah 26:3-4 (NLT) You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, all whose thoughts are fixed on You! 4 Trust in the LORD always, for the LORD GOD is the eternal Rock.”

Thank You Father that we can leave a lasting legacy of faith that will bless generations to come.

In Him alone who is our trust, now and forevermore.

Please be my strength

I would like to share a song as a prayer - a song I listen and sing to most of the time. I need God to be my strength because I don't have much of it anymore. Here's the link to the song in Spotify.

Please be my strength by Gungor
I’ve tried to stand my ground
I’ve tried to understand
But I can’t seem to find my faith again
Like water on the sand
Or grasping at the wind
I keep on falling short

Please be my strength
Please be my strength
Cause I don’t have anymore
I don’t have anymore

I’m looking for a place
That I can plant my faith
One thing I know for sure
I cannot create it
I cannot sustain it
It’s Your love that’s keeping me

Please be my strength
Please be my strength
Cause I don’t have anymore
I don’t have anymore

At my final breath
I hope that I can say
I’ve fought the good fight of faith
I pray your glory shines
Through this doubting heart of mine
So my world would know that You

You are my strength
You and You alone
You and You alone
Keep bringing me back home

Amen

His peace

Heavenly Father,

Today, I ask that you grant peace to your Children.  Whatever the circumstances, whatever the trials they are experiencing,  whatever is happening in their lives this moment, let them feel You and let them feel sweet peace.

Your peace is unexplainable. Your peace is uncomparable. Your peace is the ultimate comfort and it seeps down into our souls like nothing else can.

May we look to You for guidance and direction. May we seek Your face in all we do. And may we encounter You and Your unsurpassing peace in our hearts, minds and spirits today and everyday....

"For He is our peace....." (Ephesians 2:14)

Medical Costs

I do not want to go into my own situation here (which is complicated) or to assign blame as to who is at fault, but this is a situation that deserves to be prayed for.

Father,

I  pray for our current medical system. It seems to require people, often poor and suffering people, to be charged more money than they can possibly pay to recover their health and prolong their lives. I do not know the solution to this, only that the traditional solutions are falling apart. Therefore, I pray that You might act to heal our medical system. Protect and help those who are put in difficult or impossible positions due to it. Work it out so that those who suffer may not suffer twice from the bills involved.

Prayer of Lament

How long?
How long must parents mourn the death of children
Disease, hunger, war, or their own hand?
How long must children watch parents waste away?
Disease, dementia, or simply age

How long must families, friendships, communities be torn apart?
Selfishness and sin
How long must people and nations be destroyed?
Hatred and war

How long must the land be devastated?
Floods, tornadoes, hurricanes
How long must the earth groan?
Belching fire and tearing violently asunder

Creation is broken. It is not supposed to be this way

How long?
How long must we wait
Reunion with loved ones?
How long must we wait
Relationships set right?

How long must we wait?
Creation set right
How long must we wait?
Disease, pain, death ended

How long must we wait?
Anticipating your return
How long must we wait?
Resurrection and the death of death

We long for the way it is supposed to be

JESUS THE ONE AND ONLY

Dear Lord, "life passes, riches fly away, popularity is fickle, the senses decay, the world changes.  One alone is true to us; one alone can be all things to us; one alone can supply our need."  Thank you Jesus for being the ONE and only.  I love You.  Amen

The Key to Life

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (NLT)
19 “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! 20 You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life……”

Father you have given both people and nations the choice of life and death. It is an astonishing choice with black and white contrasts of clear consequences. The obvious implication is that you long to bless people with grace, mercy, peace and all of the fruits of spiritual and physical life. But this is radically impossible for those who refuse to love, obey and be whole heartedly committed to you.

Father so much hangs in the balance, not only for us but especially for our children and generations to come. I hear and feel the plea that comes from your heart: “Oh, that you would choose life.” Father, may we please have the faith, wisdom and passionate desire to choose life, the life you have provided for us in your Son. The equation clear: “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life.” 1 John 5:12 (NLT)

In his Name we pray.

Easy prey

When we fail to keep our focus on Christ, we become easy prey for the enemy. Our fight on this earth is against evil forces and the wiles of the enemy. Without prayer, we don't stand a chance. We must keep our line of communication with our God open at all times.

Lord, help us to be vigilant at all times and to keep ourselves armed with the power of prayer. It is what strengthens us and enables us to stand strong against the enemies tactics. We don't want to be 'easy prey' but rather a formidable foe against Satan and his cohorts.  Help us be alert and ready at all times. Help us to keep our minds in the scriptures and our focus on You.

"Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour." (1 Peter 5:8)

Facing Death

I have recently found out my cancer may have spread to my liver. It is not yet absolutely clear this is so, but if it true, it is inoperable and there is nothing more the doctors can do but try to give me a slightly longer length of life. Apart from a miracle of God, I would would only have a few more months of life.

Father,

I pray for all those who are facing the very real possibility of approaching death. I pray for peace and courage to face this. I pray for this also for their family and friends. I pray they may turn to you for Your gift of eternal life and trust in You to face the foe Your Son has already conquered. Still our fears and bring those who trust in You safely to the desired haven.

The True King

Lord Jesus, in this time of political uncertainty, of polarization and division, help us remember that you are the true King, that all others are simply pretenders. May we keep our focus on you and your Kingdom, no matter who the earthly rulers are. Amen.

LOVE NOT THE WORLD

Do Not Love the World  ~~ I John 2:15-17

"Do not love the world or anything in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For everything in the world ~ the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does ~ come not from the Father, but from the world.  The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever."

Dear Lord, we are pilgrims and sojourners in this world, moving towards the eternal future you have planned for us.  Yet, we are easily distracted from our destination, by all the activity that swirls around us ~ the sights and sounds, the pride and passion, the lusts and longings that spring from human nature.  Give us greater vision Lord!  Grant us a glimpse of eternity and keep our eyes fixed on You and on the everlasting life You have prepared for us.  We love You.  Amen

Let Justice Flow

2 Chronicles 19:4-7 (NLT)
4 Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem, but he went out among the people, traveling from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim, encouraging the people to return to the LORD, the God of their ancestors. 5 He appointed judges throughout the nation in all the fortified towns, 6 and he said to them, “Always think carefully before pronouncing judgment. Remember that you do not judge to please people but to please the LORD. He will be with you when you render the verdict in each case. 7 Fear the LORD and judge with integrity, for the LORD our God does not tolerate perverted justice, partiality, or the taking of bribes.”

Father raise up leaders like Jehoshaphat who will love truth, dispense justice, and fear You. How else can a nation be spared from its own moral collapse and self-destruction.

May we ever remember: Micah 6:8 (ESV)  “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”

Father may the prayer of Amos be fulfilled for our nation: “But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. Amos 5:24 (ESV)

Travellers Prayer

O Father, You are always there,
For your love reaches everywhere.
Above the clouds,
Beneath the sea,
I know your hand will cover me.
Through the darkened starry night.
Again at dawn when all is bright.
Upon the heavens, or over bridges,
Deepest valleys, rocky ridges.
You beside me, O so close,
Knowing when I need you most.

Through different lands of war or peace,
Where suffering stirs or riches twist
I choose to walk the path you tread.
And carry your wisdom where I'm led.
To leave your love in every place
I rest my head or dine or wait.
You keep me safe, watch over me.
I choose to put my trust in thee.

Amen
