Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

HOPE

Acts 20:35 (NLT)
And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Father what a privilege we have in helping others and to encourage them with hope because their needs are being met. We can only do this because of your grace, and the resources you provide. As the Apostle Paul said: “…..God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.” 2 Corinthians 9:8 (NLT)

Father may we ever be sensitive and compassionate to those in need. May we do our best to be gracious and generous in praying for them and reaching out to them in their time of need. We know this will give them hope and we also know: “This is good and pleases God our Savior….” 1 Timothy 2:3 (NLT)

2 Corinthians 9:15 (ESV)
Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!

Amen.

Father, thank You for Your church. Thank You for those who work and serve in our churches. Be with our church leaders. Grant them the wisdom and courage to not only set but also uphold high standards, and to allocate resources to care for the least and the lost. May our churches be a beacon to draw more people to You.

We pray for those who lead us and ask that You give them wisdom for their day today, that they have understanding of the times and know how to lead. We ask that you protect them from any strategy planned against them and for strength to match their days. We give thanks that You are meeting all their needs and for provision to fulfill Your vision. We pray that they are growing each day in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; that through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, they carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to them.” In Jesus' name, Amen

Be Christ's Body

Father,

I pray for Your people, that we might be Christ's body. To do His work wherever we are and to reach out to those around us who are in need. That we may not trust in prominent celebrities or effective organizations or attractive programs, but in Your power. That we may go forth as Your workmanship to do the work You have given us to do.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen

No Worries

Philippians 4:6 (NLT)
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

Jesus said:
Matthew 6:25-34 (NLT)

25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? 28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’  32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
34  “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

Philippians 4:19 (NLT)
And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

Father, what can we say about such a gracious promise and glorious provision? With deepest gratitude and humility we praise you for loving us so much and expressing it in so may ways.

Amen.

Peace

Dear Father, you are the Prince of Peace and the great I Am. You are my helper and my redeemer. I need your help today. I am weak and frail and tired. Give me the strength to get through just this day and the desire to work as if I am doing it all for your glory. Help those who are carrying especially heavy burdens right now. They need your power and peace that goes beyond our understanding. I am so grateful that I can come to you and present my requests at any time. Thank you for giving me peace and rest even in the hard times. In the name of the Prince of Peace, I pray, Amen

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7

MAKER AND HEALER

Jeremiah 17:14  "Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed;  save me and I will be saved, for You are the one I praise."

Lord, you are more than my Maker.  You are also my Healer and my Savior.  My life is secure from both the powers of darkness and the judgement of You hand.  You are, indeed, everything to me: health and salvation, hope and sustenance, wholeness and strength.  I lift grateful praise to You from a heart of growing faith.  I love You.  Amen.

Comforting Others

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NLT)
3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. 4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

Father one of the ways you use us to comfort and encourage others is to share with them what you have done for us. By sharing our vulnerability, losses, and grief we can identify with those going through very difficult and even dark days.

Father help us to be sensitive, compassionate and honest as we endeavor to comfort others as you have comforted us. May they feel your loving presence, experience your peace and receive the strength of your grace. May they know they are not alone and that above all others you are with them. May they understand that you are the God of all hope and that their future is secure in your hands. May they know the truth and reality of the song: “Through It All” by Andrae Crough.

I’ve had many tears and sorrows,
I’ve had questions for tomorrow,
there’s been times I didn’t know right from wrong.
But in every situation,
God gave me blessed consolation,
that my trials come to only make me strong.

Through it all,
through it all,
I’ve learned to trust in Jesus,
I’ve learned to trust in God.

Through it all,
through it all,
I’ve learned to depend upon His Word.

I thank God for the mountains,
and I thank Him for the valleys,
I thank Him for the storms He brought me through.
For if I’d never had a problem,
I wouldn’t know God could solve them,
I’d never know what faith in God could do.

Thanks be to God, our merciful Father and the source of all comfort, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Committed to Christ

Merciful Lord,

We think of the great story of grace that You have revealed to us in Christ, and we give ourselves again to You. Teach us how to be Your people, not as imitators of the world, but as members of one another within the glorious body of Christ. Grant us genuine love for one another and true goodness and affection. Teach us to serve You with energy and gladness in accord with the calling You have given each of us. Teach us to live in this world by the power of Your Son as those who are committed to goodness and love.

Help us to guard carefully the gift You have entrusted to us and live a life worthy of our calling. Amen

Day by Day

The words to this Godspell chorus seems especially appropriate for me today ...

Day by day
Oh Dear Lord
Three things I pray
To see thee more clearly
Love thee more dearly
Follow thee more nearly
Day by day

Open the eyes of my heart Lord that I might see you more clearly.

Dealing with Guilt

I am convinced that one of that biggest thing many people struggle with, including Christians, is guilt. I would like to pray that God will break the chains of guilt for all who are bound by them.

Father,

I pray that we might put our faith in You and trust You for forgiveness of all we have done wrong. That You would help us to change if we need to change. And help us recognize it, if we we are carrying  guilt unnecessarily over things where we have done no wrong. But that we would be able to put our guilt behind us and go forward in Your forgiveness. We cannot do this, I cannot do this, on our own. Strengthen us to remember the cry of your Son, "It is finished." And to live by that.

In Jesus Name,
Amen

Community

Jesus, form your Church into communities into places where there is love. Form us into families filled with love, where there is trust and openness, where even leaders can be honest about their struggles and doubts.  Let us show a watching world that true love is redemptive and life changing. Amen.

FISHERS OF MEN

Our little grandson is aspiring to be a fisherman.  I'm sure he will be successful ~ But more important than learning to catch fish, our Savior tells us he wants us to be "Fishers of Men".

Dear Lord ~ How easy it is to get wrapped up in our own lives and priorities and forget there is a sea of men, women and children who need to know Your love and salvation.

Father, give us a longing and desire to fish for men, women and children and be faithful witnesses until You return to take us home to be with You forever.

I love You.
Amen

God Cares

Isaiah 63:9 (HCSB)
9 In all their suffering, He suffered, and the Angel of His Presence saved them. He redeemed them because of His love and compassion; He lifted them up and carried them all the days of the past.

Father with all of the anguish, pain, violence, chaos, disasters and suffering that people are going through, in America and around the world, we lift them up in prayer today.

Father may they feel your presence and that it is your desire to encourage them, lift them and carry them in your arms of love.

Father may they be comforted by the truth that because Jesus “….himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.” Hebrews 2:18 (NLT

Father may they understand that Jesus identifies with them in their suffering and loss and that he is “touched with the feeling of their infirmities” Heb. 4:15

Father may they know that Jesus sympathizes with them because he was “…..a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief….” Isaiah 53:3 (NLT)

Father may they take the counsel of your word “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” 1 Peter 5:7 (NLT)

And Father as Audrey Mieir’s reminds us in her wonderful song: “It Matters to God About You.”

It matters to him about you
Your heartaches your sorrow he shares.
Regardless of what you may do
He wants you, He loves you, he cares.
Oh yes, it matters to him about you.
Believe it because it is true.
Cling to his hand, He'll understand
For it matters to Him about you.

We ask this in Jesus holy and matchless name. Amen

Our Good Hope

Lord of justice and mercy, why do we worry about evil men? You are with all who trust in Your power and goodness. You are our Light and salvation. No matter how great the danger, our hope and confidence is in You. We are happy in the assurance that comes from Your Word even today. The wicked have no solid hope, but you will help us in the evil day. Our hope is everlasting and secure. You have ordained our every step and will take us into Your glorious presence. You love justice. You are a God of mercy to those who trust in You. We love You Lord. We know You will never abandon us. We look to You for the future of every good hope.  Amen

Praying Psalm 46

Dedicated to those who are suffering in the aftermath of recent shootings and storms.

God you are my refuge and my strength - the one I turn to in times of trouble.

I am turning to you today. I need your presence in my life.

I will not fear though the earth gives way.

I will trust you though the mountains be moved.

I will cling to you though the waters roar.

I will run to you.

Father have mercy on me.

My soul is refreshed by a river whose streams make glad your holy habitation.

My spirit soars to know that your are in the midst of that city.

Because of that, the city is unshakable and full of light.

Even though the nations rage and kingdoms fail, you are God.

In you I will be still and I will find rest.

You are with me. You are my fortress and my hiding place.

Lord Jesus have mercy on me.

When I consider the works of your hands, I remember how you have moved in history.

I am comforted and I take heart by the ways that you have moved in my life.

You bring peace and cause wars to cease.

You will bring our weapons to destruction.

In Jesus you have brought peace to the earth.

I rejoice that you have said:
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
Help me to be still. Help me to trust you.

My heart sings knowing that the eternal Lord of hosts is with me.

The God of forever is my defender and you will fight for me Father.

Holy Spirit have mercy on me.

Amen
