PRAYING SCRIPTURE

Psalm 39:4~7

"Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.
Remind me that my days are numbered, and my life is fleeting away.

My life is no longer than the width of my hand.
An entire life-time is just a moment with you;
human existence is but a breath.

We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing
ends in nothing.
We heap up wealth for someone else to spend.

And so, Lord, where do I put my hope?
My only hope is in You!"

The Joy of Serving God

Hebrews 3:2 (NLT)

“……Moses served faithfully when he was entrusted with God’s entire house.”

Thank you Father for Moses and the great example he has left us in serving you. And thank you for the honor and privilege of serving you with the gifts, talents, abilities, resources and opportunities you have given us.

Help us Father to be both humble and faithful in our daily living and serving. And by your grace, may we look forward to hearing you say: ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’ Matthew 25:23 (NLT)

Thank you Father for the joy of knowing and serving you. Thank you that each day is another opportunity to engage in your service with excitement and enthusiasm. There is joy in serving Jesus in whose’ name we pray!

Amen

Lord, teach us to love

Our Father in heaven, you have said that of faith, hope and love, the greatest of these is love. Faith will become sight and hope will see realization when we finally meet you. Only love will last forever and forever. Help us grow and mature in love in the way you have taught us.

Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn't want what it doesn't have.
Love doesn't strut,
Doesn't have a swelled head,
Doesn't force itself on others,
Isn't always "me first,"
Doesn't fly off the handle,
Doesn't keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn't revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.

God of All Comfort

Well, my time of waiting and wondering is over; I have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The doctor thinks it is still small and operable, but ultimately it is in the hand of God.

Father,

I thank You that life and death, ill health and wellness, are in Your hand. I  pray not only for myself, but for all those who suffer from serious illness, for Your healing touch. But more than that, for the ability to trust in You. That whatever happens we may face it with our eyes fixed on You.

In Jesus' Name,

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Breathe in me,
O Holy Spirit,
that my thoughts may all be holy.

Act in me,
O Holy Spirit,
that my work, too, may be holy.

Draw my heart,
O Holy Spirit,
that I love only what is holy.

Strengthen me,
O Holy Spirit,
to defend all that is holy.

Guard me, then,
O Holy Spirit,
that I may always be holy.

Amen

Worry, Why?

Matthew 6:31-33 (NLT)
31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’
32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.
33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

Thank you Father that you not only know our needs but have promised to compassionately meet them according to your wisdom and will. Even as the Apostle Paul shared with the concerned Christians of his time: “….this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 (NLT)

I am mindful Father, of the song: “Cheer up you Saints of God there is nothing to worry about, nothing to make you feel afraid, nothing to make you doubt. Remember, Jesus never fails, so why not trust Him and shout, you’ll be sorry you worried at all tomorrow morning.

Father the amount of our strength is determined by the measure of our trust in you. Help us to trust you more today.

In the strong Name of our Savior Jesus.

The least, forgotten, overlooked and misjudged

Lord God,
You came to give honour to the least, those forgotten, overlooked and misjudged.
You came to give first place to the last, those left behind, misunderstood and undervalued.
You came to give a warm welcome to the lost, those who are orphaned, abandoned and destitute.

Help us to be your ears to listen to their cries.
Help us to be your voice speaking out love and acceptance.
Help us to be your feet walking beside those in need.
Help us to be your hands to clothe, feed and shelter them.
You came for the least, the lost and last of this world.
Lord, hear our prayer.
Amen.

Lenten Prayer

Lord, Let everything I do this day and in this season of Lent
come from you, be inspired by you.

I long to be closer to you.
Help me to remember that nothing is important in my life
unless it glorifies you in some way.

It's so easy to get caught up in the day to day of my life and keep saying,
"Tomorrow, I will spend more time in prayer,"
but now my longing meets your love and I want to do it now.
Help me to rely on you for help.

The prayer asks you that I reach perfection.
Please, Lord, remind me that "perfection"
isn't the crazy, "successful" way I try to live my life,
but a perfection of my most authentic, real self.

My "perfection" might be holding my many flaws in my open hands,
asking you to help me accept them.
Heal me, Lord, and help me to find you in the darkness of my life.
Let me reach out in this darkness and feel your hand and love there to guide me.

Amen

Game changer

Prayer isn't just a game changer...it's a Heart changer!

Prayer gives us access to our Father 24 hours a day. It allows us to confess, repent, intercede, petition and give thanks. Prayer allows us to give glory and honor and PRAISE to the King of kings at all times.

Prayer is amazing. It is effective. But most of all, in the life of a Christian it is an imperative.

"Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything..." (Philippians 4:6) NLT

"Always be thankful. Never stop praying" (1 Thessalonians 5:16,17) NLT

Prayer is a powerful tool. Not to be taken lightly, but to be used mightily in the name of Jesus Christ.

Lord, help us to be mindful of the wonderful privilege of prayer. Let us lift our voices to you daily in a prayer of thanksgiving and praise. Help us to keep our eyes focused on you at all times. Thank you for giving us unlimited access to the throne of Grace.

Amen

Hurry Up and Wait

I hate to wait. But God calls us to wait. I have just gone through a period of recovery from surgery designed to fix my pancreatitis. Much of this has involved sitting  or lying around doing nothing, waiting for my body to recover. And I have found it frustrating.

Father,

I pray for myself and all of Your people, that You will teach us to wait on YOU. Teach us not to become impatient with the circumstances of life, but to trust You through them. And help to focus on You and not on the situation while we are waiting.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen

Putting Off

Father, as we enter into this season of Lent help us to put off pride and self-righteousness and remember the humility Jesus showed when he went to the cross and gave his life for us. Amen

LORD, YOU HAVE MY HEART

My Father, You have said "store up my commandments within you. So I will feast daily on Your Word and hide it in my heart."  Then in the day of trouble, when I am weak and tempted, I will recall Your instructions.  They will be to me as spiritual food to nourish my soul and give me strength for the battle.  You have my heart Lord, I love you.  Amen.

Proverbs 7:1~3  "My son (daughter) keep my words and store up my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of yur eye.  Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablets of your heart."

Our Highest Goal

Let love be your highest goal!
1 Corinthians 14:1 (NLT)

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 & 13 (NLT)
“4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 8 ….. love will last forever! 13 Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.”

Father it is clear and simple why love should be our greatest goal, because there is no characteristic that so demonstrates the purity and passion of your heart. The Scriptures tell us: “……. if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.” 1 John 4:12 (NLT)

Yes Father, loving others is the greatest fruit of our faith, the purest devotion of our heart and the most glorious manifestation of your grace in our lives. Indeed Lord may it be our highest goal to love you for there in we will be enabled to love all. Thank you for your love that encompasses us, embraces us and enables us to love like you.

Regarding Romance

Father,

It seems like the whole idea of love and romance has been dragged through the mud in our culture. Help us, particularly those who are Your people, see something precious there beyond the purely physical. Help us to put it in perspective and not put it before You and Your principles. But also help us not to reduce it to a selfish need, an itch that needs to be scratched. Help us learn to love people in this area of our life as in all others, as You have loved us. And help us follow what is right and not just what our culture dictates.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen

PRECIOUS LORD, ALL I WANT IS YOU

O my Savior, my Lord, lover of my life and Shepherd of my soul.  I am awed by the reality of Who You are.  In all the hights of heaven, there is none like You.  In all the expanse of earth, there is none like You.  You are seated on the throne of life at the center of God's city where angels and mortals continually praise You.
And yet You desire to spend Your time with me.  O my Savior and my Friend, You are the fairest of ten thousand to my soul.  I love You.  Amen.  ~Song of Songs 5:10-16

Precious Lord, all I want is You
No one else fills my heart
Like You do.
My hands I will raise;
My voice sings Your praise.
All I want, precious Lord,
Is You.

Super Bowl Prayer

1 Timothy 4:8 (NLT)
“Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.”

Father the athletes playing in the Super Bowl this Sunday will demonstrate the results of physical training, discipline and determination to win. These are all admirable traits in the pursuit of excellence.

Father may we recognize with the Apostle Paul that: “All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.”
1 Corinthians 9:25-27 (NLT)

I ask Father that we Christians may be devoted in our daily lives to the training and discipline of godliness which will honor and glorify you. And I pray for the safety and success of your people serving you in the arena of life. I would also pray for those engaged in a game of great competition (Super Bowl 50) to be safe from serious injury and to demonstrate the kind of sportsmanship that would honor you and be a credit to their game.

Through every area of endeavor I pray for your glory in the name of Jesus who accomplished the greatest victory, salvation through faith in his sacrifice for us.

How lovely is your dwelling place

How lovely is Your tabernacle, O Lord of hosts! My soul longs, yes, even faints For the courts of the Lord; My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Even the sparrow has found a home, And the swallow a nest for herself, Where she may lay her young— Even Your altars, O Lord of hosts, My King and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in Your house; They will still be praising You. Selah Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, Whose heart is set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baca, They make it a spring; The rain also covers it with pools. They go from strength to strength; Each one appears before God in Zion. O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer; Give ear, O God of Jacob! Selah O God, behold our shield, And look upon the face of Your anointed. For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God Than dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, Blessed is the man who trusts in You! Amen

Prayer before an Election

Lord God, as the election approaches,
we seek to better understand the issues and concerns that confront our city/state/country,
and how the Gospel compels us to respond as faithful citizens in our community.

We ask for eyes that are free from blindness
so that we might see each other as brothers and sisters, one and equal in dignity,
especially those who are victims of abuse and violence, deceit and poverty.

We ask for ears that will hear the cries of children unborn and those abandoned,
Men and women oppressed because of race or creed, religion or gender.

We ask for minds and hearts that are open to hearing the voice of leaders
who will bring us closer to your Kingdom.

We pray for discernment so that we may choose leaders who hear your Word, live your love,
and keep in the ways of your truth as they follow in the steps of Jesus and his Apostles
and guide us to your Kingdom of justice and peace.

We ask this in the name of your Son Jesus Christ and through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Amen

It's time

Nobody, other than our God through His Word, could inspire people about the importance of prayer more than E.M. Bounds. He had an anointing upon him that gushed forth in his words and he is still a spiritual influence over a hundred years after his death. He says:

Prayer, without fervor, stakes nothing on the issue, because it has nothing to stake. It comes with empty hands. Hands, too, which are listless, as well as empty, which have never learned the lesson of clinging to the cross.

Fervorless prayer has no heart in it; it is an empty thing, an unfit vessel. Heart, soul and life, must find place in all real praying. Heaven must be made to feel the force of this crying unto God.

Prayers must be red hot. It is the fervent prayer that is effectual and that availeth.

Let's revamp our prayer lives. Let's get on our faces in fervency and cry out with souls on fire to our God. Let us not come before our God and King with empty hands and hearts, but let us come before Him with all that is within us and proceed to shake the heavens with our passion in prayer. It's time to be true prayer warriors in the kingdom of God. It's time to start seeing our prayers answered. It's time to cry out and let God move in our lives. It's time....

....the earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power
and produces wonderful results."

Prayer for Faith

 Father,

I pray for faith in You. Sometimes my faith seems so superficial and so fragile. I feel like the Israelites in the wilderness, who grumbled and complained about each new problem. I thank You that You have always brought me through, even though my faith seems so inadequate. Help me to rest in You and not to worry and fret over each new problem. Help me to remember how You have brought me through so many other storms.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen
