Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

REPLENISH ME

We are at week six in REsons to REad God's REvelation.

REplenish Me   Psalm 119:32  "I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free."

Dear Lord, I am running the course.   I want to be energetic in my response to Your commands.  You have set my heart free and I love that I don't get weary as you have promised to replenish me and set my heart free to run the race set before me.  To see the finish line and not give up.  I love you Lord.  I love your Word.  Amen.

Simons Cross

Matthew 27:32 (ESV)
"As they went out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. They compelled this man to carry his cross.”

Father as I think about this passage and consider this man Simon I marvel at his unique honor and incredible privilege to help carry the cross of Christ. In doing this, though so reluctantly, he stands alone in history as the only one to serve the Savior in this way.

On Simon’s garment, arms and hands must have been blood from Jesus’ lacerated back which dripped from the cross prior to Simon shifting it to his shoulders. What was an infamous moment for Simon became glorious for all time. The emotions Simon felt as he carried the cross must have nearly overwhelmed him. And I am sure that as he thought back, later in life on this sacred event, he must have bowed in humility and worship of such a holy memory.

Christ’s cross became Simons cross as it does for all of Jesus followers. And Father may we say with the Apostle Paul:   “….God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ…” Galatians 6:14 (KJV)  Yes Father it was a glorious cross Simon carried and a glorious cross we serve because of the Glorious Christ who sacrificed his life for us on it.

Prayer for Migraine Sufferers

For weeks now I have had a migraine that has affected the vision in my left eye.
I have been to a neurologist and have had an MRI. As I await the results, I pray ...

Lord have mercy on those who suffer from migraines and headaches.
May your healing presence comfort those affected.
May wisdom be granted to doctors and others.
May faith arise and peace encompass each in our need.
May life flow out of death and healing from pain.
In all things we confess our trust and belief in the name of Jesus.

Amen

Not a Fireman

Sometimes we can see God as a fireman, someone to come and rescue us when we really get in trouble. But God would have us trust Him not just for the big catastrophes, but for our ordinary, everyday needs in life, our daily bread.

Father,

Help us learn to trust You, not just in time of disaster, but in all the ups and downs of life. Help us remember there is no problem so small it cannot be brought to You. Help us trust You with all of our lives and live them in constant dependence on You. For You are the One we need so we that can face with confidence all life throws at us.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen

REFUEL ME

This is the fifth in the REasons to REad God's REvelation.

REfule Me.  Psalm 119:131  "I open my mouth and pant, longing for your commands."

Dear Lord, I need re-fueling in my life every day.  I long for your Words to fill me like the gasoline filling the tank in my car.  My mouth is open, my heart pants for you.  Fill my life with the fuel of your love, your kindness, your goodness your peace and mercy.

Lord in a world of emptiness ~ Only YOU can REfule us and fill out lives to overflowing, so we use that overflow to bless others.  I love you Lord.  Fill me!  Amen.

Speaking Up

 Revelation 20:4 (NIV)
“….. I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God….”

Proverbs 24:11-12 (NIV)
”Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. 12 If you say, "But we knew nothing about this," does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay each person according to what he has done?”

Proverbs 31:8 (NIV)
”Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves…”

Father because of the appalling slaughter of these Christian men I am reluctant to place this picture on the prayer blog, yet the visual impact of what is portrayed leaves me no choice. I pray for the families of these men and so many others that have been martyred for their faith in Christ. These are noble, decent men who simply loved you and paid the ultimate price for their devotion.

I ask Father that the voices of many nations, along with that of America, will be raised to speak up on behalf of Christians and others suffering degrading treatment at the hands of godless men who do not value human life or the dignity with which all humans are born.

And help us Father to follow the admonition of Hebrews 13:3 (NLT) “Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies.” And I pray this in the Name of Jesus who understands and sympathizes with those going through such horrific ordeals: “Since he himself has gone through suffering..…” Hebrews 2:18 (NLT)

Loving God

Do we love God? That may sound like a strange question, but I think sometimes even Christians can start to see God as a harsh father or some sort of cosmic kill-joy. It is important for us to remember God's love and grace toward us.

Father,

Help us to grow in the love and understanding of You. Help us to remember who You are and what you have done for us. Help us not to fall into the world's way of thinking of You. Help us to live a life that grows in the steadfast love of You.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen

Lent: Week One

Father, as we enter this season of Lent, may we be reminded of our condition outside of Christ and our need of your grace. Give us a deeper appreciation of your love and mercy. Amen

REPAIR ME

This is the third RE in REasons to REad God's REvelation.

REpair Me ~  Psalm 119:116  'Sustain me according to your promise, and I will live;  do not let my hopes be dashed."

Dear Lord, so many times my dreams and hopes are "dashed".  Sometime because of my own selfish desires, but sometimes because you want me to keep my focus on You, and know that even in my weakness moments, when my hope is broken, dashed, crumbling ~ you have promised to sustain me.  I rest is that promise.  Thank you for always being ready to REpair Me.  I love You, and I love Your Word.  Amen.

What’s Love Got To Do With Life?

Love is the greatest motivation –
“….God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son….” John 3:16 (ESV)

Love is the greatest virtue  -
”…the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13 (ESV)

Love is the greatest sacrifice –
Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13 (ESV)

Love is the greatest commandment –
“And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.“
Mark 12:30 (ESV)

Love is the greatest evidence of a true disciple of Christ –
“By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35 (ESV)

Father I think that those who read this prayer may feel they are getting a sermon, which is probably true, but really it is a reminder for me to remember “What’s love has got to do with life?” Everything! And thank you Father for being the example of what this truly means.

Amen

prayer depends on faith

Prayer is absolutely dependent on faith. Prayer accomplishes nothing unless it is connected to faith. Faith makes prayer effective and must precede it.

"Anyone who comes to Him must believe that
He exists and that He earnestly
rewards those that seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6)

Lord Jesus, without faith our prayers are of no effect. Help us to keep our eyes on you and thank you that faith puts prayer into action. We give you all praise and honor and glory for you alone are worthy.

The Love That Reaches Out

Jesus shows us the example of reaching out to people, whoever they are and whatever they have done, without condoning their behavior. This is a difficult thing to do, and often our own self-righteousness gets in the way.

Father,

Help us to be people who reach out with your love. Break down in us the pride and self-righteousness that would prevent us from doing so. Help us to know how to love the sinner without condoning the sin. Help us to communicate Your love to everyone we meet.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen

GOD CAN....RE~EXAMINE ME

Last week I shared how God can RESCUE me.  This week I've been reflecting on how God can REexamine Me.

Psalm 119:80  "May my heart be blameless towards your decrees, that I may not be put to shame."

Dear Lord, this week the news has been filled with so many things that break our hearts.  We see evil at every turn.  We see men we trusted telling lies, we see people not calling evil, evil and we look to You for help.   Lord we are sinful, prone to wander, so today I pray that all of us will take this verse to heart and REexamine our own hearts and motives and be able to say we are blameless toward your decrees.  That we are obedient followers so we are not caught in sin and put to shame.  We love your Word Lord, because it is our manual for Life and Living.  I love You.  Amen!

The Fellowship of Prayer

Jeremiah 29:12-13 (NLT)
12  In those days when you pray, I will listen. 13  If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.

Thank you Father that you do not make prayer complicated or a conversation with you difficult. You make it a matter of the heart. How special it is to simply have a heart to heart chat with you. To share our love for you and to express our appreciation for your compassionate care for us. What an honor you have bestowed on us that we have this gracious access to your presence in the personal fellowship of prayer. My cup overflows.

I have no idea where I am going ...

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going.

I do not see the road ahead of me.

I cannot know for certain where it will end.

Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will
does not mean that I am actually doing so.

But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you.

And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing.

I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.

And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it.

Therefore will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death.

I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.”

Amen

Rejoice Always

God calls us to rejoice. But there are so many things that would rob us of that joy: circumstances, legalism, or just the need to feel we are respectable. I am not talking of an endless, mindless happy, but a deep seated rejoicing in who God is and what He has done for us, despite what is going on around us.

Father,

Help us to have Your joy. A joy that brings us through difficulties and puts life in perspective.  Help us not be so distracted by what we are doing and what is going on around us that we lose sight of You. Help us to remember the big picture, in relation to which the troubles of the moment are just a passing incident.

In Jesus' Name,
