Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

A Source that Will Never Dry Up

"It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness." Lamentations 3:22-23

Do you know what Lamentations 3:22-23 means? It means that God never runs out of compassion.

Have you ever gone to Niagara Falls and watched the water rampaging with torrential force? I've thought, "Surely the water is one day going to dry up." But it hasn't. Friend, greater than Niagara is the compassion of the Lord. His compassions fail not.

In 1923, Thomas O. Chisholm wrote one of the greatest hymns of all time and this stanza is the refrain of this truth, "Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father; There is no shadow of turning with Thee; Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not; As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be."

God is faithful. What are you facing today? Dear friend, lean upon Him and His faithfulness. He will never, no never, leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5) ~LWFM

Christmas Prayer

Dear Lord, I cannot comprehend that You, the Creator of the universe, took on flesh and were born of a peasant girl.  You, the One who spoke galaxies into existence, became a speechless newborn baby.  You, the One who gave the stars their light, veiled Your own glory and slipped unnoticed into the human race.  You, the One who clothed all of nature in its boundless beauty and order, came to us wrapped in rags and lying in a feeding trough.  The miracle of Your incarnation is all too unexpected, too mysterious, too holy for me to understand.  I can only follow the shepherds to the manger and bow in astonishment and thanksgiving, glorifying and praising You for all that I have heard and seen.  I love you.  Amen.

Do You Feel "Fogged In"?

"Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful." Psalm 116:5

Imagine you are in a plane, ready for take-off on the runway. The pilot has come on the intercom and announced there's a delay because of fog. You glance out your window. It looks so gloomy and dark. You wonder if the sun is shining.

The fog lifts enough for the control tower to give the pilot the green light, and the plane takes off. It's still cloudy, but the plane starts climbing, climbing, climbing. Suddenly, the plane bursts through the clouds, and it is so gloriously bright that you have to blink your eyes. Now, you realize the sun has been there all the time.

That's the way it is with Jehovah God, the Son of righteousness with healing in His wings (see Malachi 4:2-3). He is always loving, always giving. He is waiting for you to see Him now.

Invite the Holy Spirit to show you today the true condition of the sky--above the clouds. Open your heart to His presence and let Him speak to you about what is really there beyond the fog. Things are not always what they seem. And God has His hand upon you. ~LWFM

Peace

Dear Lord God,
This Christmas I pray for peace and forgiveness. May it be both given and received.
Amen

Please visit The Prayer List and pray with us.

what's next?

“Hosanna!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Blessed is the king of Israel!”

The king is coming, may the peace of the Lord be with you. May this be a season of movement for you… movement of spirit, movement of heart. Our prayer for you today is that you find a way this Christmas to take one step closer to the king of Israel.

If you are lost, that you will seek.
If you seek, that your eyes will be opened.
If you see, that you will believe.
If you believe, that you will trust.
If you trust, that you will love.
If you love, that you will love without expectation.
If you love God with all your heart, and soul, and mind, that you live forever.

Peace to you,

"And they shall call His name Immanuel,"
which is translated, "God with us."

(Matthew 1:23)

Sweet Jesus, minister to hearts and lives today. May you  bestow healing and comfort and peace. May you rest mighty on the weary and bring hope to the broken. May we see you for who you are and worship you with all that we have. Thank you for sweet mercy and grace every day of our lives. You are so good.

The Longest Night

This Wednesday night I will be sharing a brief message with a few folks at a service in Kansas City called "The Longest Night". It is a time where folks that are hurting gather together acknowledging that this is a tough time of the year for them. I will be sharing three simple lessons that I learned this summer watching my wife Ann struggle for her life breathing with the help of a ventilator. As I prepare for the service I find myself thinking about this meditation (posted below), written in 2001 by Rev. Diane Hendricks. As you read it please pray for those who are hurting so much this season.

Longest Night Meditation

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

Only it's not.

  • Not for everyone.
  • Not when there is an empty chair at the table.
  • Not when your body is ravaged with illness.
  • Not when the depression is too much to bear.
  • Not without her voice joining yours on the Christmas carols.
  • Not when you feel all alone even in a crowd.
  • Not when you are not sure you can even afford the rent or mortgage, let alone the presents.
  • Not when they are trying their best to the best of you.
  • Not when another Christmas party means he will come home drunk again.
It's the most wonderful time of the year?

No, it's not.

And trying to smile and say Merry Christmas is more than difficult. It's pretty near impossible.

C.S. Lewis once wrote:

"No one ever told me that grief felt so much like fear. I am not afraid, but the sensation is like being afraid. The same fluttering in the stomach, the same restlessness, the yawning..."
It's the most wonderful time of the year.

Only it's not.
  • Not after he has died.
  • Not after the doctor gave you the news.
  • Not after they told you they would be downsizing.
  • Not after... you fill in the blank.
  • Not after September 11.
  • Not when there is so much violence and destruction in the world.
In truth, it has never been the most wonderful time of the year. Certainly not in the days surrounding that first Christmas so long ago. The story of the birth of Jesus is not to be told with a jolly voice and a merry ho-ho-ho.
It is the story of a teenage girl, pregnant with a child that is not her husband's.

It is the story of a child born in a dirty animal stall.
It is the story of a family of refugees who had to flee their homeland so that their child would not be killed.
It is the story of one sent into the world in peace who was condemned to death.
It is the story of a light sent to shine in the darkness, which the world snuffed out.
It is the story of God's never-ending, self-giving mercy which was rejected and condemned.
In the great work the Messiah, Handel quotes the prophet Isaiah, proclaiming that Jesus was "despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief." One great theologian reminds us that we cannot come to the manger without acknowledging that it lays in the shadow of the cross.

It is not the most wonderful time of the year.

Only it is! It is:
  • If we forget about the tinsel and the trees.
  • If we forget about the holly jolly tidings.
  • If we forget about the presents and the ornaments and the trappings.
And remember. Remember the story.
  • Mary was alone and afraid.
    But God was with her and exalted her among women.
  • Joseph was disgraced.
    But God revealed in Joseph's cause for disgrace God's plan to save the world.
  • The world was in darkness.
    But God sent the light of life to shine.
  • The lowly were imprisoned.
    But Jesus set them free.
  • The blind wandered aimlessly.
    But Christ gave them eyes to see.
  • The lame were rejected.
    But through the Holy One they were made to leap and dance.
  • The deaf were confined to the silence.
    But the song of life unstopped their ears.
  • The sorrowful grieved.
    But God wipes away our tears.
  • We were alone.
    But in Jesus Christ, Emmanuel, God is with us.
  • The people rejected God.
    But God embraces us.
  • The world crucified Christ.
    But God would not allow that to be the last word, and gave us the sure hope of the resurrection.
It is the most wonderful time of the year, not because you have to be cheery and happy and merry.

But because you don't.

You can have heavy spirits and shattered dreams. Broken hearts and deep wounds.

And still God comes to be with you.
  • To comfort you.
  • To redeem you.
  • To save you.
  • To restore you.
  • To empower you.
  • To strengthen you.
  • To grant you peace.
  • To be raised for you.
  • To hold you in the communion of saints with those whom you have loved and lost.
  • To store your tears in his bottle.
  • To offer you eternal life.
It is the most wonderful time of the year.
For Christ is born.
Love has come.
God is with us!
Thanks be to the Lord our God.

Prayer for the Fourth Week of Advent

Father, in between the joy of the coming of the Messiah and the joy that will be ours at his return, help us to find our joy in you. In the midst of the busyness of the season give us that joy that goes far beyond our circumstances, the joy that comes from knowing that you love us and take joy in us.

The subject of "Hell" is not very popular.  But I want to have the passion Spurgon had when he said,

"If sinners will be damned, at least let them leap to hell over our bodies.  And if they will perish, let them perish with our arms about their knees, imploring them to stay.  If hell must be filled, at least let it be filled in the teeth of our excertions, and let no one go there unwarned and unprayed for."
~ ~ Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892)

Dear Lord, today I want to pray for all my friends and family that do not know you.  Give me the love and passion that Spurgeon had...let me be sure they are warned and prayed for.  Father, give me a heart for the lost!

Just Give Me Jesus

"Give unto the LORD the glory due unto His name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness." Psalm 29:2

There was a man who had lived a long life with Jesus, and now he was dying. His loved ones came to him and asked him to sign his name to a legal document. They said, "Daddy, if you would sign this, it would help us with a lot of legal difficulties. We hate to mention it, but it needs to be done."

With the old man facing eternity, he lifted his quivering hand and signed the paper. Before long, he went to be with the Lord. When the family picked up the document, to their amazement he had signed, "Jesus." More than likely, it was the only name that meant anything to him in those moments.

What name means the most to you right now? There will come a time when the only name that will mean anything to you is--Jesus. ~LWFM

thursday: ten

You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.

I do covet, O Lord. Often for things I neither want nor need. Simply things I see. Things that I do not have. That I do not control.

Not satisfied by the abundance of gifts you have provided, I hunger for more. Fleeting desires, without respect, that simply lead to regret. Regret for how I have disrespected neighbor. And turned my back on you.

For you have provided everything I need, and for that you deserve thanks and praise. All thanks and praise to you, our heavenly Father.

Let each of us lead the life that the Lord has assigned. In whatever state or condition we were called, let us there remain with God.

Amen

Be still...

Precious Father, Help us to be still. Help us to rest in the knowledge of who you are. May we cling to your Word and hide the sweet promises we find within deep in our hearts. May you become so real to us that we never doubt what you have done in our lives. Reveal yourself to us that we may know without a shadow of a doubt, that you are who you say you are and that you can do what you say you can do. Let us know that You are God.

Prayer for the Third Week of Advent

Father, as we wait in anticipation for the return of our King, help us to not sit passively by, but to rejoice in the great privilege you have given us to join you in your mission of reconciling the world to yourself. As we await the final culmination of your Kingdom, help us to bring that Kingdom to bear in every part of our day-to-day. Amen

Light on the Corner

Don and I attend Light on the Corner Church in Montrose CA. Each Sunday the invitation to accept Jesus as Savior is given. The following is a prayer printed in our bulletin that is simple and to the point. I wanted to share it with you today.

"Dear Jesus, It's time for me to become completely yours. So I'm giving my life to you. I believe you love me. I believe I'm a sinner. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I believe you're the Son of God. Come into my life and redeem my past, reclaim my present and remake my future. You be the boss from now on. In Jesus' name, Amen."

I prayed a prayer like this when I was ten years old, and it was the best decision of my life. What about you?

Sending love and prayers to all of you today.

If You Keep Your Eyes on Jesus...

"And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you." John 16:22

When I was a boy and living on the Florida coastline, my brother and I were a little disappointed when a hurricane passed us by because of the exhilaration we experienced leaning into the wind and tasting the salty air! I can remember waves sometimes reaching fifty feet in the air. What a sight! But did you know there has never been a storm to move the ocean floor?

There will be storms that will course across the surface of our lives with raging torment, but the child of God can know a deep-down joy that nothing can take away. If you keep your eyes on Jesus, He will bring a joy that no man can take from you.

Oh, thank God for the steadfastness of His power, love, and mercy. Is your joy full in Christ today despite the winds of adversity? ~LWFM

thursday: nine

You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

Sometimes it’s intentional, often It’s not – just me thinking I know the truth when I am so misinformed. Sometimes I just nod my head to someone else’s lie—tacitly agreeing to what I know is wrong. Yet someone gets hurt. Someone always gets hurt.

What’s worse—O Lord—I’ll sometimes imply something without actually saying it. So I can claim innocence. This sinful ploy being known only by you and me. I am sorry. So sorry.

Thank you for the example you provide, dear Jesus. You speak the truth directly to the one in question, never behind their back. You show us how to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Help us keep the kingdom of God in our vision always, so we can silence our tongues. Let us be bold to seek out our neighbor. Put the truth on our hearts—no matter the cost.

Amen

It's Not Friday

Dear Lord Jesus,
It's not Friday, but I can't wait until then. A family needs your help and they need it today. A fire was set and three family members are dead. A son is charged with arson and murder, a mother is critically injured, a sister is wounded. Other family members are left reeling and grief stricken. Please, help, Lord God. Please give grace in the days ahead.  And Lord, if it be Your will, I ask provision for my mother in law to be here to help her nieces and nephews in their time of sorrow.  Our hearts are broken.

Hear me, O LORD

"Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness;
thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress;
have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer"
(Psalm 4:1)

Lord, thank you for hearing us when we cry out. Thank you for being the calm in our storm and the Savior of the world. It is amazing to know that your tender mercy surrounds us always and that your ear is always turned to listen for your children when they lift their voice to you. Help us to remember to not just cry out when we are in trouble but to cry out in praise, thanksgiving and honor of your Name at all times. May we give you the glory that only belongs to you!

"I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep;
for thou, LORD only makest me dwell in safety"

Prayer for the Second Week of Advent

Lord Jesus, we live in a world that has lost hope, that runs after things, relationships, and so much more in a vain attempt to fill the emptiness. Help us to stay out of that rat race, and remind us that our hope is in you. In the midst of the stuff of life, remind us that you are making all things new and that you will one day finish the job. Thank you for what you have already done in us. Thank you for calling us to join in your mission of restoring your creation. Thank you for the privilege of bearing the hope of your Kingdom to those around us.

"I have overcome the world ~"

Father, why am I surprised by trials and persecutions?  Did I really expect to follow the "man of sorrows" without having sorrows of my own?  When trouble comes to me, Father, let me hear my Savior's words:  "In this world you will have trouble."  And then as I take up my cross to follow Him, may I hear His words of comfort, "I have overcome the world."   I love you Father, and choose to follow you whatever circumstances I find myself.  I will remember your words.   Amen

Who Is Keeping You In God's Hand?

"Know therefore that the LORD thy God, He is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love Him and keep His commandments to a thousand generations." Deuteronomy 7:9

When I talk about eternal security, inevitably I will hear, "Well, maybe your sins can't take you out of the hand of God, but Satan can."

In all due respect, I respond, "Pardon me. But that is foolishness. If Satan could take you out of the hand of God, why hasn't he done it yet? Hasn't he been nice to you? That would be a strange doctrine. You're going to heaven by the grace of the devil!"

God saves us. God keeps us. What has been settled in eternity can never be undone by the ways of men or the schemes of the devil. ~LWFM

thursday: eight

You shall not steal

Everyone does it… I deserve it… no one will notice… what’s fair is fair. O Lord, the many ways we fool ourselves! When will we be content? When will we respect? When will we love?

When the clerk forgets to charge me, when there’s wiggle room in the “allowable” deductions, when I waste someone’s time, when I take more credit than I deserve, when I present another’s ideas as my own, I am as guilty as Madoff. Like a thief in the night. Yes, guilty I am.

Thank you Jesus for being all that I need. Through your grace, there is nothing I shall want.

Show me the way, O Lord. Teach me your path. Guide me in the truth. Change me from the inside to one who is content… one who respects… one who loves.

Amen

Hear me when I call

"Hear me when I call, O God of my
righteousness; thou hast enlarged me when
I was in distress; have mercy upon me,
and hear my prayer"
(Psalm 4:1)

~~~~~~~~
Lord, thank you for hearing our cries. Thank you for caring about the things that take place in our lives. When we are lonely, you are there for us. When we are sad, you fill us with joy. When we call out your name, you answer us. All we have to do is reach up and you are already reaching down to us. We stand in awe of you and your power and sovereignty. Thank you for tending to us in our times of intense need. You are merciful and gracious and we give you praise. God, you are so good.
A Prayer to begin Advent
As we begin Advent, we light one candle in the midst of all the darkness in our lives and in the world. It symbolizes our longing, our desire, our hope. Three “advents” or “comings” shape our desire. We want to be renewed in a sense that Jesus came to save us from our sin and death. We want to experience his coming to us now, in our everyday lives, to help us live our lives with meaning and purpose.
“Lord, the light I choose to let into my life today is based on my trust in you. It is a weak flame, but I so much desire that it dispel a bit more darkness today. Today, I just want to taste the longing I have for you as I go to the meeting this morning, carry out the responsibilities of my work, face the frustration of some difficult relationships. Let this candle be my reminder today of my hope in your coming.”
Amen
Home in Heaven
Early Thanksgiving morning, our dear friend Janis left this life and began her new life in heaven. How appropriate that the Lord would call her home on Thanksgiving, as she had been such an inspiration of a godly woman, praising God and giving thanks throughout her long and painful illness.
Please join me in prayer for her husband Les, and family. My Don will be doing the funeral service on Saturday to celebrate her life. Before she passed away, she discussed her funeral with Don, and wanted to make sure the gospel message would be part of the service. Please add Don to your prayers that her service will bring honor to God, and hope to the family and friends.
Running Together
"Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain." 1 Corinthians 9:24
I have a race to run. God has given you a race to run as well. Every man runs his own race. We're not racing against each other to win the victor's crown. We are in a pilgrimage together. I'm not trying to outrun you. And you're not trying to outrun me. That is good news!
God has a plan for your life with particular speed bumps, detours, and hurdles to cross. And you are to stay in the race until it is over. But you are not running alone!
Though we are not in the same race, we are in the journey together, so we encourage one another to win. And I want you to win the victor's crown today! Run, my friend, run! ~LWF
thursday: seven
You shall not commit adultery.
O Lord, through your grace you joined me with another. Who could find fault in your will?
While I cannot imagine being with someone else, the truth is I have imagined just that.
Thank you dear God for providing me with all I would ever need. Thank you for the gifts of love, friendship and passion and one with whom to share these joys.
Keep our minds in line with our bodies. Keep our bodies in line with our spirit. Keep our spirits attuned to your fine glory.
A prayer of thanksgiving to our Lord
"Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving,
and make a joyful noise unto Him with psalms.
For the LORD is a great God,
and a great King above all gods."
(Psalms 95:2,3)
God, we are so thankful for the abundant blessings that you so lovingly bestow on us daily! We give you praise and glory for the unmerited favor of your amazing grace. We bless you for the mighty and powerful works that you do in us and through us through the power of your Holy Spirit. We thank you that you still perform miracles in our lives. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the provision of our daily needs. Help us to never forget that all things are sent by your sweet and loving hands. We give you glory and honor and praise for who you are.
With a Grateful Heart
This is the month of Thanksgiving and this simple song from the 70s speaks so deeply to me of how we are to give thanks in every situation and in every season of our life. Won't you take a few minutes and join me in singing and praying it?
Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks to the Holy One
Give Thanks because He has given
Jesus Christ His son
And now let the weak say I am strong
Let the poor say I am rich
Because of what the Lord
Has done for us.
Give thanks
We give thanks to you Lord
Give thanks
We give thanks
Give thanks, give thanks
We give thanks to you Lord.
Amen
"If my People ~~~"
In life there are many "what ifs" ~~ Such a small word, but so much hangs on it.  Take this passage in 2 Chronicles 7:14 "IF my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, THEN will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
Thank you, Father, for these wonderful words of assurance.  Thank you for the privilege You give to us by allowing us to seek You, and by honoring the sincere prayers of Your people.  Thank You for your promise to hear us.  Thank You for your promise to forgive us.  Thank You for your promise to heal us.  You are truly "the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin" (Ex.34-6-7)
"Stretch out Your hand
And heal this nation,
Stretch out Your hand
And bring restoration.
Let Your mercy overflow us
Like a never failing stream,
By the blood of Jesus cleanse us,
Oh Lord, it's You we seek,
Cause Your face to shine
Upon us again."
Light of Hope in a Dark World
Isaiah 9:2 - “The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.”
Imagine being in a cave without a flashlight. Can you see any shadows? You cannot even see your hand! Shadows are only visible in the presence of light. Regardless of how dark, how large, how absolutely ominous a shadow appears, it is only there because there is light. David says, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.” Why? Because “Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me” (Psalm 23:4). Jesus has taken the sting out of sin and the fear out of the grave. He has empowered us with the Holy Spirit to give us confidence that He will always be with us and watch over us. ~Adrian Rogers
For S
Dear Lord God,
My friend's daughter is scheduled for very serious surgery today, brain surgery and possibly fusion of several vertebrae. She is fourteen. I ask, Lord Jesus, that You be near to S through her operation, that Your peace be upon her mom and dad, and that You would wrap Your loving arms around them as she recovers in a hospital far from home. Please heal S quickly, Lord, and may the surgery be a success. Please be with her mom, as she spends her days watching over her daughter. And, Lord, thank you for giving S a mom who never gave up, a mom who believed her daughter over doctors who said there was nothing wrong, and for leading them to those who know this area of medicine best. I'm looking forward to the time when they both return home.
thursday: six
“You shall not murder.”
Open my eyes, O Lord, to the value and sanctity of life. Life that exists beyond the flesh, in thought, in feelings, in spirit.
While I have not stabbed anyone, my God, I have often been quick to extinguish ideas, shoot down dreams, squash hopes and kill the remnants of joy.
We thank you for life, dear Father, and the grace upon which it stands. The first breath of every morning comes from you and you alone.
Let us not destroy what you have created. Let us learn to value life – including our own.
Amen
Prayer is the answer
We serve a God that fights our battles for us. He is always there when we we need Him. We cry out in prayer and He hears. He answers. He delivers us.
Prayer is the answer to all the evils of this world. There is no tear that prayer can't wipe away. There is no depression that can't be lifted by it. There is no despair that prayer can't replace with hope. Prayer always brings God to our sides and it brings blessing and revelation of His power to our desperate souls.
Prayer is the answer to all our problems.
Lord, we will have troubles in this life. We will have hardships and trials to endure. But thank You that we can know we aren't alone in this battle. You are the King of Glory, strong and mighty.  The battle is already won because You have overcome. We give you honor and we give you praise and we worship you with all that we are.
Prayer for our Troops
Lord, guard and guide the men who fly
And those who on the ocean ply;
Be with our troops upon the land,
And all who for their country stand:
Be with these guardians day and night
My Lord, fill it.
Behold, Lord, an empty vessel that needs to be filled.
My Lord, fill it.
I am weak in the faith; strengthen me.
I am cold in love; warm me and make me fervent,
that my love may go out to my neighbor.
I do not have a strong and firm faith;
at times I doubt and am unable to trust you altogether.
O Lord, help me.
Strengthen my faith and trust in you.
In you I have sealed the treasure of all I have.
I am poor; you are rich and came to be merciful to the poor.
I am a sinner; you are upright.
With me, there is an abundance of sin;
in you is the fullness of righteousness.
Therefore I will will remain with you, of whom I can receive,
but to whom I may not give.
Amen.
What is the Source of Your Joy?
Psalm 86:12 - “I will praise Thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify Thy name for evermore.”
What is bringing you joy today? You say, “The Lord is making me happy.” How do you know it’s not that nice automobile? Or that “special someone”? Or your good looks? Or your bank account? Or your popularity? Here’s how you can know. By the process of elimination. Let God take away your health, your home, your job, and if you still have joy, then you know it is Jesus.
If you lose your joy when you lose any of these things, then you are an idolater because that is where you are getting your joy! I don’t mean that you cannot be temporarily upset over the loss, but if the joy goes out of your life, you weren’t getting your joy from the Lord. You’ll never know that Jesus is all you need until Jesus is all you have. ~Adrian Rogers
thursday: five
“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.”
Teach me to honor, O God. Open my eyes to the sacrifices my parents and elders have made on my behalf. Help me to understand what they need… how I can share my love.
Too often, Lord, I get caught up in my own life and the needs of my children. I fail to see the many opportunities to love and honor as you’ve commanded. Often, I see this as a chore, a burden.
Thank you God for the amazing gift of mothers and fathers. Thank you for putting it on their hearts to conceive me, to create me, to care for me, to nurture me. Even at times when relationships were rocky, or broken, they truly were and are such amazing gifts.
Help me love unconditionally. Help me honor with joy and grace. Show me how I can give more. Burn this commandment onto my heart.
Prayer for Compassion
O God, you made us in your own image
and redeemed us through Jesus your Son:
Look with compassion on the whole human family;
take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts;
break down the walls that separate us;
unite us in bonds of love;
and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth;
that, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Learning to Lean
I thank Thee Lord, for shattered dreams,
For overwhelming torrent streams,
That swept away, the very thing,
To which I might have learned to cling.
I thank Thee Lord, for trials score,
That taught me how to trust Thee more;
For when I found no other stay,
I learned to lean on Thee each day.
God's Provision, A Living Testimony
Philippians 4:19 - “But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
What is it about your life that you cannot explain apart from God? Do you know that’s the only part of you that is believable? Let me illustrate. If your neighbor can explain you, then you are just like him – only you’re religious. Friend, your life as a religious person is not going to convince him of the power of God. But when he sees God supernaturally meeting your needs, then, you’re going to be believable. ~Adrian Rogers
How is your life radiating the light of our Lord in your neighborhood? Invite your neighbors over for a night of fellowship, and share with them the Good News of the divine birth of Jesus.
thursday: four
“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.”
My Lord, I do not always remember the Words you tell me to remember. You have provided the perfect example of how I should conduct myself, day to day, week to week. Help me to follow the example you’ve provided.
I would never need to break this commandment if I didn’t try to derive satisfaction from a source other than you. You would think I could obey a commandment to do nothing—to rest—but even that I do not obey. Instead of following your example, I tend to my own life, on my own terms.
Thank you for rest, O God. Thank you for the example of how to enjoy rest. Thank you for the gift of green pastures and quiet waters where we can lie down and refresh our souls.
Let me honor you through the Sabbath day. Let me keep it holy. Let me honor me through the Sabbath day. Let me keep me holy. All praise and glory to God.
prayer and worship
The House of God is a holy place for united worship. A quiet room is for individual prayer. Yet even in the House of God, there is the element of private worship.
God's people are to worship Him and pray to Him personally, even in public worship. The church is for the united prayer of God's family, but also for individual believers.
The life, power and glory of the church is prayer. The life of its members is dependent on prayer. The presence of God is secured and retained by prayer. The very place is made sacred by its ministry. Without it, the church is lifeless and powerless. - adapted from The Power of Prayer by E.M. Bounds
Precious Father,  help me to keep my heart in an attitude of prayer at all times. May I bring my requests boldly to your Throne of Grace expecting and believing in the power of your Holy Spirit. Prayer is the beginning of worship and true Worship begins on our faces...
For those who daily serve us ...
Lord Jesus, bless all who serve us, who have dedicated their lives to the ministry of others:
    All the teachers of our schools who labor so patiently with so little appreciation;
    All who wait upon the public, the clerks in the stores who have to accept criticism,
    complaints, bad manners, selfishness at the hands of a thoughtless public.
Bless the mailmen, the drivers of streetcars and buses who must listen to people who lose their tempers.
Bless every humble soul who, in these days of stress and strain, preaches sermons without words.
Jehovah Jireh, Our Provider
Matthew 14:14 - “And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and He healed their sick.”
It is the unbelievable, supernatural replenishment that awakens the world to see the mighty power of God. Jesus demonstrated, once with a crowd of 5,000 and again with a crowd of 4,000, that He is the God who provides (see Matthew 14:14-21, 15:32-38). When the most “responsible” thing to do, in human terms, was to ask the multitudes to find their own food, Jesus turned to the supernatural power of God. Moved with compassion, He confidently told the disciples to begin feeding the multitudes. Jesus never wavered in His complete and utter trust in Jehovah Jireh. ~Adrian Rogers
Read the accounts of these miracles in Matthew with your family today, then ask God to fill your family with an utter and complete trust in Jehovah Jireh.
thursday: three
“You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.”
O Lord, show me the way. Guide me in your truth. Open our eyes to the times when we judge in your name, when we curse in your name, when we benefit ourselves in your name, when we justify ourselves in your name.
For how many times do I say “I do this in the name of the Lord” but the truth is I do it for myself. How many times do I claim to understand your will, when the truth is you are beyond my understanding.
We give thanks for your name, O Lord, for there is no other name like yours. No other name with the power, the majesty, the glory. Even when our tongues are still, the trees and rocks shout your name in joy.
Shine light on us today, Father. Provide discernment and patience. Let us use your name to glorify your holy presence. Lead us to ways that delight you.
Thank you, Lord that you know.
When our loved ones die ...
The LORD cares deeply when his loved ones die. (Psalm 116:15 NLT)
This scripture verse means so much to me today.
My goddaughter and niece Lynn died from cancer last Friday.
It is so good to know that God cares deeply about such things.
Please join me in prayer for Lynn's family and all who mourn loss.
We are sad with grief beyond what we can bear Lord.
Please comfort and encourage all who grieve the loss of loved ones today.
We don't understand why people who are so young die.
Give us wisdom Spirit of God that we might embrace a life without bitterness.
Our hearts are broken and torn apart Lord.
Please lead us in these times to accept our loss in a way that heals.
Children who lose their parents suffer so much Lord.
Loving Father we pray that you would make up the difference for these young souls.
Dear Lord, we want the pain to go away but we do not want to forget.
Help us Lord to eventually find a renewed joy in life without forgetting.
Compassionate Jesus, we rejoice that our loved one suffers no more.
Cause us to always remember the pain free joy of life in heaven.
We are thankful Lord for the gift that you gave us in the life of our loved one.
Help us Holy Spirit to live each day in a way that honors and celebrates our loved one.
Rejoicing at the Lord's Table
John 21:12a - “Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine.”
Is Satan whispering that God is not for you in your daily battles? Is he whispering lies that God is going to erase your name from the Book of Life for something you’ve done, yet repented over? Satan never had it so wrong! And Jesus never had it so right! Salvation in Christ is not a funeral, but a feast! The Bible is a continual feast from Genesis right through to Revelation. Covenant meals and meals of fellowship are frequent occurrences in Scripture. Our Shepherd, the Lord Jesus, has given many examples of His open invitation to be replenished and restored, to remember, and to rejoice at His table. ~Adrian Rogers
Dear Lord
Dear Lord,
It's a new day. I didn't do so good yesterday. I was moody and impatient. I forgot our morning meeting, I didn't check in at breakfast, and by the time lunch rolled around I had forgotten all about talking to you. I know You are disappointed. Please forgive me, Lord. I promise to try harder today.
thursday: two
“You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.”
Lord God, you are the Alpha and Omega. Open my ears to your Word. Help me accept that you are huge God, an awesome God, beyond my comprehension.
Why, O Lord, do I sometimes put you in a box? Why do I define you in my terms? Why do I see you how I want to see you? O, how foolish I have been.
You, O Lord, remain constant – being the one true God that you are. Thank you, Lord, for never ceasing to amaze, to surprise, to shake my world – just by being you.
Instead of trying to define you, may I simply accept you. Instead of trying to explain you, may I sit in awe of your wonders. Instead of altering you in to fit my world, change my heart to conform to your kingdom.
Amen
He will cause breath to enter into us...
"And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones
live? And I answered, O Lord God, thou knowest"
(Ezekiel 37:3)
God knows everything about us. He knows our worries. He knows our frustrations. He knows our limitations and our weaknesses. Praise His Name that He has no worries or frustrations and that He has absolutely no limitations! Praise His Name that He is strength above all strength!
Nothing about our lives goes unnoticed by God. He is aware of everything that concerns us and everything that happens to us. And He cares. He is just waiting for us to open up our mouths and pour our hearts out to Him in confession and repentance, so that He can then fill us with new life. New breath. New direction.
"Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will
cause breath to enter into  you, and ye shall live"
(Ezekiel 37:5)
Our Father breathes the Holy breath of God into our dry bones and gives us a revival of Spirit. He makes all things new. He gives life to what seemed dead. He gives hope to what seemed hopeless. He gives light to what was darkness.
We pour out to Him and He just opens the windows of heaven and pours back into our destitute souls. And when He does we hear His voice whisper to our hearts.... "and ye shall know that I am the Lord"
Praise His holy name.... He is the Lord our God!
Oh that Mine Eyes
Oh that mine eyes might closèd be
To what becomes me not to see;
That deafness might possess mine ear,
To what concerns me not to hear;
That Truth my tongue might always tie,
From ever speaking foolishly;
That no vain thought might ever rest,
Or be conveived in my breast;
That by each word, each deed, each thought,
Glory may to my God be brought.
But what are wishes! Lord, mine eye
On thee is fix'd, to thee I cry;
Oh purge out all my dross, my tin,
Make me more white than snow within;
Wash Lord, and purify my heart,
And make it clean in every part;
And when 'tis clean, Lord keep it too,
For that is more than I can do.
The True Depth of the Savior’s Love
John 10:18 - “No man taketh it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of My Father.”
The true depth of the Savior’s love becomes apparent when you consider an important truth – Jesus Christ is the only person who ever chose to die. “But, what about kamikaze pilots in World War II? What about soldiers who, having heard the ominous “click” of a land mine, stood still until their buddies could scurry to safety?” They didn’t choose to die in the final sense of the word, they only chose when to die. You and I, and everyone yet to be, will die eventually. But there was only One who did not have to die. Nails didn’t hold our Savior to the tree. Silver cords of love and golden bonds of redemption held Him there. ~Adrian Rogers
A Friend
Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank you for always being near, for being there when friends can't be, and for staying close when I feel abandoned. Help us learn not to depend on others for the friendship our hearts so desperately desire. I'm asking this not only for me, but for my daughter who so very often feels alone. Please cultivate in us a "glass half full" kind of attitude that will draw others in rather than push them farther away. I ask a friend for my daughter, a friend who will not only be a shoulder to her, but for whom she can also be a comfort and listening ear. Grow her in Your grace, dear Lord. Help her to love and forgive even when her heart is broken.
thursday: one
And God spoke all these words: “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.”
Lord Jesus, you have freed me from slavery. Write this commandment on my heart: I will have no gods before you. Stay before me. Guide my decisions, my words, my actions in ways that glorify your name.
You know that there have been times when I have put my own needs first—where I have acted as if I was the one to please. Times when greed, lust and laziness seemed more important than you.
And yet, you have always been there, with your arms open. A patient and loving God. Ready to be the one and only god in my life—and pleased when I return to you. Thank you. Oh, thank you Lord.
You are everything, what more can we need? Purge foolish thoughts from our mindS. Purge selfish ambition from our bodies. Purify our souls so we can see the truth – that you are our God. Our only God. And all that we need.
Help me O God to say Yes
Let me see You, O God, as You are, not as I have concluded You are. Bring the fullness of Your character into my heart and then bear fruit in my thoughts, words and actions today. Help me seek you more and more deeply.
I want to be loving, show joy and bring peace to everyone I encounter. Help me. I want to be patient and kind. Help me. May all who cross my path see goodness in me. May faithfulness in all its forms abound in me and let gentleness pour out from me. And help this one with so little control be self-controlled because today I am under Your control. Help me O God.
Let me say, "Yes!" to all You ask of me today.
True Satisfaction Is Found in the Lord
Psalm 23:1 - “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
The Scottish-born naturalist and founder of the Sierra Club, John Muir, once had a conversation with railroad magnate and industrialist E. H. Harriman. “I am richer than you are,” declared Muir to the railroad baron “And how is that true?” responded Harriman. “Because you don’t have all you want — and I do. Therefore I am richer than you,” answered Muir. Well, perhaps these two men were playing word games with one another. We don’t know if either man was truly satisfied with his life, but there's one thing of which I’m certain. Our search for satisfaction will not be found at the end of the rainbow in a pot of gold. It can only be found in Jesus. ~Adrian Rogers
What satisfies you today? Is it the things you own? Your relationships? Your job? Ask the Lord to fill you with the source of lasting satisfaction — Himself!
friday words
My noble Lord washed the feet of his betrayer,
yet I am quick to rebuke even the slightest slight.
How often do I lurch for the “safety” of darkness,
while the Lord stands arms outstretched in the light.
That is today. Tomorrow is new. Reborn in
a spiritually transformation – a gift of grace.
A gift I can see just a few yards ahead. I’ve been
blessed with a push, now must finish the race.
Thank you for this gift, one that does not come easy.
We can run together now, with you at my side.
Imitating your power, perseverance and love.
Imitating my Christ. My Lord. My Guide.
Knowing You
All I once held dear built my life upon
All this world reveres, and wars to own
All I once thought gain I have counted loss
Spent and worthless now, compared to this
Now my heart's desire is to know you more
To be found in you, and known as yours
To possess by faith what I could not earn
All surpassing gift of righteousness
(Chorus:)
Knowing you, Jesus, knowing you
There is no greater thing
You're my all, you're the best
You're my joy, my righteousness
And I love you ,lord
Oh to know the power of your risen life
And to know you in your suffering
To become like you in your death my Lord
So with You to live
And never die
Perfect in His Sight
"Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin." Romans 4:8
God has imputed His righteousness to every believer. That means that instead of your sin being on your account, it is His righteousness instead. Not only has He forgiven us. Not only has He covered our sins. But He gives us His righteousness.
I fail, but God will not impute that to me. If God were to impute sin to me, then when I fail I would be lost again. How much sin would it take to make me lost? Just one-half of one sin. You see, I'm not going to heaven because I'm perfect. I'm not perfect. You're not perfect. No one is perfect. But we have received Christ as our righteousness. And in His eyes, we are perfect. ~Adrian Rogers
Stop now and thank God for imputing to you His own righteousness.
Prayer for those who Battle Cancer
My family is dealing with cancer in a major way these days. My brother (he is 70) discovered that he has lung cancer this summer and he has been going through chemo. And my niece, aged 43, has been battling cancer for three years now. She has been on a ventilator the past month. All I could do was cry when my sister (her mom) called and shared the recent events with me. So please join me in praying these prayers for my brother, niece and all who are battling cancer.
One of the names of God is "Jehovah Rapha", the Lord that heals. Knowing that, we pray that cancer roots will dry at the command of our great Lord and malignant cells will stop spreading at the command of God. We intercede and ask that His Word will restore health to victims of cancer.
We pray for all those taking chemotherapy and other medicines to treat cancer. We ask that the Lord will work out His perfect will in those situations and bring about healing. We ask that The Great Physician will heal all those that have undergone surgery and radiation therapy and pray that all the cancer cells will be destroyed.
Finally, we intercede for all those, patients and family members, who are too weak to pray. We ask that they would be supported by friends, families and neighbors in their battle against cancer. In the midst of deep despair and suffering we ask that a fragrant hope would rise toward heaven. And in a very fearful time we ask that faith, not fear, would not rule the day.
Faith: Your Link to Promise and Victory
"I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, Who loved me, and gave Himself for me." Galatians 2:20
The life of Joshua in the Old Testament is an illustration of Jesus. As a matter of fact, Joshua is the Hebrew name of Jesus. The Lord Jesus is our heavenly Joshua who leads us into the land of promise and victory.
And what is this victory? It is a victory of faith. There is nothing more, nothing less that will achieve the victory in our lives but faith. Victory is not achieved by fighting. Victory is received by faith.
You see, when God has a gigantic task He wants us to perform, He gives the contract to faith. Your faith links your nothingness to God's almightiness and victory is yours for the taking! ~Adrian Rogers
no record of sins
"Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD.
Lord, hear my voice; let thine ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplications.
If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord,
who shall stand?
But there is forgivness with thee, that
thou mayest be feared.
I wait for the LORD, my soul
doth wait, and in His word do I hope."
(Psalm 130:1-5)
Thank you sweet Lord , that you keep NO record of our sins. Thank you that when we humbly confess and repent of our sins, you wipe the slate clean. You give us a brand new start. New mercies every day. Our sins are forgiven and forgotten. Cast as far as the east is from the west. We give you praise and honor for this. You are mighty and you are powerful and we love you with all of our hearts.
Prayer of Abandonment
Father, I abandon myself into your hands;
do with me what you will.
Whatever you may do, I thank you:
I am ready for all, I accept all.
Let only your will be done in me,
and in all Your creatures -
I wish no more than this, O Lord.
Into your hands I commend my soul;
I offer it to you with all the love of my heart,
for I love you Lord,
and so need to give myself,
to surrender myself into your hands,
without reserve,
and with boundless confidence,
For you are my Father.
